Charles B. Tegarden, Rotary Greetings from Dist 3000 and Members of the Rotary club of Madurai Rotary club of Madurai is oldest club in India and we do two matching grant project every year. We have received a request from Four needy schools in Madurai and One from Paramakudi. Most of them are educationally, socially and economically downtrodden. The students do not have desks and benches and hence sit on the floor for 8 hours which is very inconvenient to pay attention. They do not have proper toilet facilities and are compelled to use open places. By providing them clean toilets we can improve the hygiene of the surroundings. Some are so poor that they are compelled to use toilets during school hours for want of such facilities at their homes. For a school that require a van students have to walk long distances or use public buses to which they can t afford to reach their school. Schools are not equipped with sufficient number of computers, which is a must for every student for their future job opportunities. In fact the school is offering free break fast / free mid day meals for poor students by collecting contributions from philanthropic persons. The five schools have requested our club to provide the following articles. Every year our club does one or two Matching Grant Projects with the wonderful experience of communicating with overseas sponsors like you building understanding friendship and fellowship. Some of our projects have resulted their visit to the project sites further strengthening friendship and International understanding. Recently we have provided a Mobile clinical van to ISHA Foundation with Co-sponsors RI Dist: 7710 under Matching Grant Project for the purpose of doing rural health care project. This has been a successful project giving medical care to 200 rural folks everyday for which our club received the best award for the rural health care project.

5 Madurai is well known for world famous Meenakshi Amman Temple Tower which is 1000 years old. It takes two full days to go through the temple architecture which is marvelous and is perhaps the largest of its type. Tourists all over the world visit and admire the wonderful architecture. It is called Athens of India. Madurai produces and Exports jasmine flower extract to leading perfume manufacture in France and Germany. Madurai also exports to west Handloom kitchen terry towels which are very famous. You are welcome to Madurai and our Club.
