Qualification Summary National Code / title: CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Industry relevance: Entry requirements: This qualification covers workers in children s services who are responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in education and care settings, in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements. There are no formal prerequisites. Students will be required to undertake a simple pre-enrolment assessment interview prior to enrolment in order to establish their existing learning, oral communication and reading skill levels. 2. 2 Delivery and Assessment RTO Delivery Arrangements Course duration: months (1 day for classroom-based study per week) Delivery location: Mode of delivery: NOVA College (77 Lexton Street, Stretton, 4116, QLD) Classroom instruction, Group study, Self-paced study on e-learning platform Tutorials, 240 hrs work placement and Practice (See WP attachment) 4. Assessment Requirements Assessment tasks: There are Theory Assessments and Work placement Assessments. Assessment is generally progressive with multiple assessments tasks to be completed for each unit of competency. Assessment tasks and methods will vary from unit to unit and may include a combination of small group study, written assignments/examinations, oral questioning and practical activities. Task submission: Assessment tasks must be submitted by the due date unless an extension has been granted. Students are entitled to two re-submissions per item following an initially inadequate assessment. 5. Recognition and Credit Credit transfer: You may already have acquired some of the units of competency in this qualification from an earlier course or from another Registered Training Organization. If so, you can claim credit for these by providing original qualification transcripts or statements of attainment. These will be verified and copied as evidence of current competency. Note that you cannot receive credit for your whole program of study. Induction and Support 6. Induction and Support Pre-enrolment: By completing a Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment prior to enrolling in this qualification, you will be assisting us to evaluate your suitability for the course and to tailor support services to meet your individual needs. A Student Support Officer will review this information and, if appropriate, contact you to discuss options to assist you to participate productively in the course. Course induction: An induction session to be held at the outset of the course comprises an overview of the industry, including relevant legislation, and covers course content, delivery and assessment arrangements and the satisfaction of course requirements. A general orientation to college facilities, rules and safety procedures is also provided. Individual support: Your trainer can provide and telephone support throughout the course. All enrolled students also have access to a Student Support Officer who can provide advice and assistance or facilitate external support. CHC

Awards Issuance Course completion: Partial completion: Certification Arrangements A qualification testamur and transcript will be issued upon successful completion of the training program provided that all administrative requirements have been met and course fees are paid in full. In these circumstances, certificates will be issued within 30 days of all course requirements being satisfactorily completed. Where a student does not complete all course components, a statement of attainment listing units achieved will be issued within 30 days of course completion as long as all outstanding fees have been paid. Induction and Support 8. Enrolment Application Application: By completing a Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment prior to enrolling in this qualification, you will be assisting us to evaluate your suitability for the course and to tailor support services to meet your individual needs. A Student Support Officer will review this information and, if appropriate, contact you to discuss options to assist you to participate productively in the course. Unique Student identifier It is a condition of enrolment in any accredited program that you supply us with (USI): your unique student identifier (USI). If you don t already have one you can apply for one online at Further information on the national USI system is available from college administration. Confirmation: Enrolment is confirmed upon payment of a deposit against the course fee. NOVA College will collect no more than $1500 of the total fee on initial enrolment. 9. Cancellations and Refunds Course cancellation: Student withdrawal: Students are entitled to a full refund, without deduction, if the course is cancelled by us for any reason prior to its commencement. If a student wishes to cancel or transfer an enrolment, a Withdrawal Form needs to be filled and submitted at least 5 working days prior to course commencement. Students wishing to cancel an enrolment fewer than five days prior to their course commencing, or at any time after commencement, need to forward an application and discuss with NOVA College CEO. 11. NOVA Student Handbook Student handbook: Our Student Handbook is available to all prospective students and may be obtained at or prior to enrolment from any of our colleges or downloaded from our website. The Student Handbook reflects our policies and contains information on the enrolment process, skills recognition, participation in training and assessment, support services, fees and refunds, rules and regulations and a range of general information. 4 When on Work placement RTO Work Placement Attachment-Page 1 You are representing yourself as an education and care professional and as a Nova College student. We expect you to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times. Notify the Director / Work place supervisor if you are going to be late or unable to attend your scheduled work placement. Abide by all service policies and procedures. Dress in a professional and appropriate manner to the standard expected of an education and care professionals e.g. closed in shoes, polo shirt, suitable shorts/trousers and a bucket hat. Nova College has strong collaborative relationships with many education and care services and utilises them on a regular basis for our students. Your conduct reflects on Nova College s relationship with the education and care service and future access and support for Nova College students. Workplace Assessment Log Book It is the student s responsibility to ensure that all work place tasks are completed and all documentary evidence is collected and submitted. This will require you to work closely with your workplace supervisor. It is also the student s responsibility to ensure their work place supervisor sights all documents, signs and dates your work as a record of performance evidence, in some cases; more than one demonstration of evidence may be required. Each workplace supervisor signing the Workplace Assessment Log Book will be required to complete the Witness form at the back of the log book, outlining their full name and qualification. It is expected that the student will complete at least one open and one close shift and each shift should ideally be of 6-8 hours in duration. Work Place visit Your Trainer and Assessor will: Observe you in the workplace performing tasks from your Workplace assessment log book. Discuss your progress. Ensure all parties are satisfied with the placement and are abiding by their responsibilities. Visit you on a minimum of two occasions. It is the student s responsibility to have the workplace assessment log book with them at all time and to ensure it is signed and dated by supervisor. CHC
5 Work Placement Attachment-Page 2 Apply for and obtain a Suitability for working with children blue card It is a requirement of current legislation that before you commence work placement or employment in an education and care service, you must complete a Working with Children Check. How do I know when I am going on work placement? You will begin preparing for work placement in class and will be given the option of sourcing your own practicum placement with an education and care service in your area. Alternatively, your Trainer and Assessor will organise a local practicum work placement for you. If you organise your own practicum work placement please provide your trainer and assessor, with the name of the service and the centre director. Service contact details must include the address, phone and . Once organized you will be required to go for an orientation at the service to familiarise yourself with the services policies and procedures before work placement can commence. At this time, you will be required to have an introduction poster ready for your practicum. It is also essential that the workplace agreement form be signed and completed before placement begins to ensure all parties have agreed to the requirement and are protected under work placement insurance. You will not be able to begin placement until you have received your blue card. Student Workplace Attendance Record Students must complete a minimum of 240 workplace hours in a regulated children s service. It is recommended that 30 workplace hours be allocated to working specifically with children under 24 months. This document is a legal record of the student s attendance at workplace experience. The document must be kept and completed by the student and signed off by the workplace supervisor at the end of each day of the work placement.
