3 Course Information Course Title CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community) Release 2 This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. Packaging 7 core units Information 6 elective units, consisting of: at least 4 units from the electives listed below, at least 2 units must be from those units listed under Groups A, B or C up to 2 units from the electives listed below, any endorsed Training Package or accredited course these units must be relevant to the work outcome All Group A electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing). At least four units from Group C electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community). Where two specialisations are completed award of the qualification would read Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community). Textbooks and Learning Materials Our physical and online library has a wide range of written and electronic resources useful to your course. You can find our online library on the Central Regional TAFE website at : For on campus students your learning materials for each unit will be provided to you as you progress through the semester and the price is incorporated in your enrolment fees. If you are enrolled off campus other information about your learning materials and purchases will be provided with your enrolment. There are no books required to purchase for this course via face to face mode. All written resources will be either handout format or available through BlendSpace (electronic version). However if you would like to purchase a supplementary resource we would recommend The Australian Carer: A training manual for aged care workers by Helen Croft. The price varies across suppliers. We also recommend accessing the My Aged Care website. Other Course Requirements Some courses may require you to provide additional resources such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or uniforms. A list is provided below. Transport: Part of the aged care course includes taking class off campus to a residential facility in Geraldton. You will need to arrange your own transport to and from TAFE to the facility every week for 10 weeks. 5 P a g e
6 Uniform: Central Regional TAFE Polo top. The cost is approximately $40 and is NOT included in enrolment fees. Closed in shoes. The cost varies and is NOT included in enrolment Available from Totally Workwear 75 Flores Road, Geraldton Phone: Totally Medical and Legal requirements: As a student of this course, you are required to provide legal and medical information to enable you to attend placement in the community and residential care. Photocopied evidence of these requirements are due three weeks after the course commences. Essential requirements include: National Police Clearance Working with Children s Check Documentation and evidence of the following immunisations: Tuberculosis Hepatitis B (HPV) 3 shots then a blood test Mumps Measles Rubella Varicella (chicken pox) MRSA screening is essential for all students. Initial screening is ordered by your GP. Further MRSA screening may be required. Work Placement Work Placement provides a practical opportunity for students to develop skills in a real life situations. A work placement is required for this course. WORK PLACMENT To achieve this qualification, you must complete 120 hours of work: 30 hours in the community in a residential facility Placement 1: The Home and Community Care placement will commence on Thursdays and runs over 3 weeks (Term 2 or 4) on Thursdays and Fridays. The agency you are placed in may require you to commence work at 7.30am. Placement 2: Residential placement will commence on a Monday for 3 consecutive weeks known as block placement. You will be required to commence shift work for either an early; 7.00am til 1.00pm/3pm or a late; 1pm-9pm/9.30pm. This will occur at the end of the semester. 6 P a g e
7 STUDY OPTIONS Central Regional TAFE aims to provide varied options for study to suit your needs. Not all courses are available at all campuses in the same way. The following options are available in this course at this campus. For additional information about flexible study options at all of our campuses please check the courses pages on the Central Regional TAFE website. Students many study through face to face classes, flexible learning or a combination of both. The course runs for 1 Semester full time and is available for Semester 1 or Semester 2 intake. Students are expected to allow a minimum of (10) hours per week home study time.
