2 COURSE DESCRIPTION This course provides an overview of infection control measures to prevent healthcare associated transmission of M. tuberculosis to patients and healthcare workers. Course content is based on recent recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The format includes lectures, exercises, and skills demonstration. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Identify changes in the new CDC infection control guidelines Describe the epidemiology, transmission, and pathogenesis of TB List the steps in implementation of a TB infection control program Explain the TB screening procedures for healthcare workers Discuss the use of precautions to prevent and control the spread of TB Describe the strategies for identifying and managing persons who have TB infection or TB disease COURSE REQUIREMENTS Enrollment is limited to 30 healthcare workers who are responsible for implementing and enforcing TB infection control measures within a healthcare setting. Participants must read the CDC Self Study Modules on Tuberculosis.
