4 Respec ul Rela onships program, This term we begin the third topic in the Respec ul Rela onships program, Posi ve Coping. Learning Ac vi es in this topic provide opportuni es for students to iden fy and discuss different types of coping strategies. When children and young people develop a language around coping, they are more likely to be able to understand and deliberately u lise a range of produc ve coping strategies and diminish their use of unproduc ve coping strategies. Students learn to extend their repertoire of coping strategies and benefit from cri cally reflec ng on their own choices and being exposed to alterna ve op ons. Ac vi es introduce students to the concept of self-talk and prac ce using posi ve self-talk to approach and manage challenging situa ons. Posi ve self-talk is a key strategy for coping with nega- ve thoughts, emo ons and events. It is associated with greater persistence in the face of challenge, and can be learnt or strengthened through prac ce. Net, Set, Go will commence on THURSDAY, 18 TH MAY. Parents must register their child through the My Netball system. Registra ons are currently open, but close on THURSDAY 18 TH MAY. All registra ons MUST BE COMPLETED by this date.. If you have any ques ons please do not hesitate to contact me. Groups and mes will be finalised in the week leading up to the first session.
5 Work Experience / Structured Work placement Dates 2017 Year 10 August, 14 th / 18 th Careers News Term 2 Week 2 April 28 th 2017 GIRL POWER IN STEM PROGRAM CAMP The Girl Power in STEM program aims to contribute towards gender parity in STEM disciplines. This four year program starts with girls in Year 9 and runs throughout their high school journey through to Year 12. When: Monday 3 rd Wednesday 5 th July Accommodation: University of Melbourne Queens College Available to: Girls in Year 9 Registration: Open: Monday 18 th April Close: Monday 8 th May WHY RESEARCH CAREERS? Researching ideas for careers and training while at school is becoming increasingly important. With automation of many jobs developing rapidly, many unskilled jobs (and some skilled jobs as well) are rapidly disappearing. A willingness to obtain qualifications and to re-train when necessary will be VITAL for a young person s future. It is believed that at least Certificate III level qualifications (preferably higher) will be essential to obtain on-going work (ie Certificate IV, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and Degrees). Resilience, determination, and education will be essential to remain in employment. Remember too, the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) careers. These are some of the areas offering growth and opportunity in employment. Research shows that 75% of the fastestgrowing occupations now require STEM skills, so we must build a workforce of tech-savvy future employees. Digital literacy is vital for everyone. The digital revolution has led to many new jobs and new ones will develop that we have never begun to think of. An excellent website to check out is Here you will find details of what jobs involve, average salaries, and, perhaps more importantly, the likelihood of employment growth in that job.
