TARGET AUDIENCE This symposium is appropriate for new and experienced law enforcement officers, DSS/ CPS workers, prosecutors, medical & nursing professionals, mental health professionals (including psychologists & social workers), guardian ad litem advocates, case managers, juvenile justice workers, child advocacy professionals and victim service providers serving child victims. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The 23rd Annual Reflections Child Abuse & Neglect Symposium offers a multi-disciplinary training opportunity for professionals dealing with child abuse. Geared for professionals involved within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) as part of the children s advocacy center (CAC) model, this training allows for disciplinespecific and/or cross-training of professionals in the investigation, evaluation, treatment and prosecution of child maltreatment cases. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this educational activity, the participant should be able to: 1. Recognize and describe the ways in which professionals dealing with child abuse (from their various disciplines) collaborate to make the investigation, evaluation and prosecution of child maltreatment cases stronger and more efficient. 2. Apply knowledge and skills to improve the multi-disciplinary response of professionals dealing with child abuse in the investigation, evaluation, treatment and prosecution of child maltreatment cases. CONTINUING EDUCATION Application for general Continuing Education Units (CEU), Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits and Criminal Investigation Certificate Program (CICP) credits has been made to the Western Carolina University Continuing Education Department, the NC State Bar and the NC Justice Academy. Enrollment and/or payment for CEU credit is available online and all of these credits will be available in the registration area. If a fee applies to these credits, the responsibility for payment will be with the participant. The costs for any of the respective fees is not included in your registration fee. Nursing Credit: This activity is being submitted to the Alabama Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. Alabama State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Nurses must attend 100% of each session in order to receive credit for that session.

3 GENERAL INFORMATION Nonprofit Org U.S. Postage PAID CACNC REGISTRATION FEES Registration form(s) and payment are required from each participant to guarantee registration. The preferred method is to register and pay online. Attendees must register and make payment at www. cacnc.org/training or mail form(s) with payment by August 31, 2017 to qualify for the early registration rate. An additional $25 registration fee will apply for any/all registration postmarked after August 31, If registering by mail, make checks payable to CACNC and mail check with registration form(s) to: CACNC, P.O. Box 1020, Graham, NC Registration fees include symposium materials, breakfast/lunch buffet on Tuesday, September 26th and Wednesday, September 27th, breakfast on Thursday, September 28th, afternoon snack breaks and a Certificate of Attendance. An administrative fee of $35 will be assessed for checks returned for any reason including insufficient funds. LODGING Symposium registration does not include lodging. All training activities will be held at the Terrace Hotel and the Harrell Center Auditorium (directly across from the Terrace) at Lake Junaluska. Online reservations for lodging are available until August 26, Please use Access/Group Code # to secure the group rate. After August 26th, you must call Lake Junaluska at (800) to reserve rooms. CANCELLATION Registration cancellation requests must be made in writing ( is acceptable). All requests are subject to the approval of CACNC. If approved, all refunds will be issued after the symposium. There will be no refunds after August 31, 2017; however, registration may be transferred to another person. In the event of transferred registration, contact the CACNC office as soon as possible with this change to ensure that symposium materials (badges, registration and certificates) are printed with the correct name. LEGAL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT CREDITS Application for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits and Criminal Investigation Certificate Program (CICP) credits have been made to the North Carolina State Bar and the North Carolina Justice Academy. It is the participant s responsibility to collect this certificate upon departure from the symposium. MATERIALS Most workshop handouts will be available for downloading prior to the symposium via Dropbox. Information regarding the handouts will be communicated to paid/ registered participants upon receipt of all forms/payments. Participants are encouraged to pick up symposium materials at CACNC registration area at the Terrace main lounge on 2nd floor, on Monday evening, September 25 from 4:30 6:30 p.m. The registration area will be open daily at 8:00 a.m. beginning Tuesday, September 26. Give em the FEATURED SPEAKERS KEYNOTE SPEAKER: MOLLY-CATHERINE GOODSON, MA, JD Molly-Catherine Goodson is an advocate, speaker, and writer who is passionate about bringing professionals together to use a multi-faceted approach to address the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Molly-Catherine graduated from Liberty University School of Law, with a Juris Doctor and a Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling with a Children, Families, and Law specialization. During her time at Liberty University School of Law, she founded Child Abuse Awareness Week and was named the Outstanding Family Law Graduate by the Virginia State Bar. Molly-Catherine speaks from her heart, as she shares her personal life experience and how the influence of one attorney, who came into her life when she was a child, changed the trajectory of her story. JULIE KENNISTON, MSW, LISW is the Executive Director of The Center for Family Solutions in Hamilton, Ohio. She presents nationally and internationally on forensic interviewing. She is a faculty member for the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) and Ohio Attorney General s Finding Words forensic interview courses. Ms. Kenniston coordinated the Forensic Training Institute for The Childhood Trust and now manages the updated Child Forensic Interviewing program. She co-chairs the APSAC forensic interviewer committee and has conducted over 3,000 forensic interviews. CORY JEWELL JENSEN, MS, CCSOT Currently the senior trainer for CBI Consulting, Cory Jewell Jensen, M.S., spent the last 35 years providing evaluation and treatment services to adult sex offenders and their families in Portland, Oregon. In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Jensen has provided training and consultation services to The National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse, The National Child Advocacy Center, The National Children s Alliance, The United States Navy, The National Crime Victims Association, The National Boy Scouts Foundation, and a number of law enforcement, child advocacy and faith-based organizations. She has published a number of articles related to sex offender treatment, risk management and child abuse prevention, testified as an expert witness in local and federal courts and been a featured guest on radio talk shows and the Oprah Winfrey Show. DAN POWERS, ACSW, LCSW Dan Powers, LCSW is a clinical social worker and currently serves as Senior Vice President and Clinical Director for Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County in Plano, Texas. He supervises a staff of 22 therapists and clinical interns providing no cost services to victims of child abuse and family violence as well as their nonoffending family members. As Senior VP he is responsible for clinical operations and program development as well as directing the Advocacy Center s clinical internship and training program. MARK YARBROUGH, JD Mark Yarbrough served for 20 years as the District Attorney in Lamb County Texas. He served on the board of directors for the Texas District & County Attorney s Association and is a member of the National District Attorney s Association. Mark graduated from Abilene Christian University and received his JD from the Texas Tech School of Law.
