3 Conference Track Topics Session I Title: Youth, Families, and Addiction Workshop Description: This presentation will explore the challenges youth and families face with substance abuse from dynamics leading to the start of abuse, mechanisms of the brain in abuse, and factors in obtaining and maintaining abstinence. The impact of abuse and the process for family support and change will be highlighted as well as the challenges our youth now face with the opioid epidemic. Session II Title: Behind the Mask of a Child Rapist Hope s Journey Workshop Description: This workshop will follow the life of a young child who at an early age began to be molested and raped by a caregiver and will follow the traumatic events of her life into adulthood. Following this story will help provide participants with the tools needed to not only investigate such a crime but also provide the on-going services for the child victim. This workshop will identify the problem of child molestation and provide investigators with insight into what these children experience, and how that knowledge can assist in better understanding the crime. This information will help you to complete a more thorough investigation, which will greatly improve achieving a successful arrest and prosecution of the perpetrator. Other service providers such as Child Protective Services, Victim Witness, Mental Health, and the CAC will also learn the importance of ongoing services to assist the child as they learn to deal with the aftermath of such a traumatic event in their life. This workshop will define the two most prevalent sexual offenders, the situational offender and the preferential offender, and how each works to carefully groom and seduce their child victims through the use of attention, affection, kindness and gifts. Session III Title: Medical Component of a Suspected Child Abuse Evaluation - Demystifying the process and Clarifying Outcome Expectations: What We Can Say and What We Cannot Say Workshop Description: This workshop will provide multidisciplinary team members a better understanding of how the medical examination contributes to the evaluation of the suspected child abuse victims. Those attending this workshop should be able to: discuss the evolution of the medical exam with a focus on medical-legal implications cite situations in which legal outcomes can be impacted by false or misleading medical testimony describe to a mother, father and child (in an age appropriate manner) what to expect for a medical examination note the dichotomy between the usual medical interview and the minimal facts history talk about the fundamental difference between an evaluation for physical abuse and sexual abuse interpret the report provided by the medical examiner describe a process of reaching consensus used to develop the Adams Classification appreciate the expertise of the SANE-P nurse and compare to the performance of a physician without specific training in child abuse discuss the analogy of the surgeon to the operating room and child abuse expert to court advocate for the importance of the medical exam as part of every comprehensive and child centric approach to any multidisciplinary evaluation of child abuse. The speakers are both recognized experts in the field of child abuse. The format of the workshop will include didactics, case presentations and interactive attendee participation.

4 Presenters: Dr. Wendy Wild and Donna Wampole, LCSW BIOs: Dr. Wendy Wild is the Director of Clinical Training at WellSpan Behavioral Health in York, Pennsylvania. Dr. Wild earned a Doctorate and Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master of Arts from St. John s University where she majored in General/Experimental Psychology. Dr. Wild earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University where she majored in Psychology and Sociology with a concentration in legal studies. Dr. Wild s professional interests include: clinical and research interests in trauma related disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, forensic psychology, and the therapeutic relationship. Populations of interest include, but are not limited to, adolescents, medical patients, and forensic populations. Her clinical orientation is cognitive behavioral. Dr. Wild s vitae includes extensive field work, practicum and volunteer positions, research experience, specialized training, and professional presentations. Donna Wampole is a social work clinician at WellSpan Philhaven Behavioral Health in York, Pennsylvania. Her work includes individual therapy utilizing Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral-informed therapies, with areas of clinical focus including borderline personality disorder, mood disorders, problem and pathological gambling disorders, dual disorders, and trauma disorders. Donna has completed numerous publications, presentations and lectures. Donna holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement with minors in Corrections and Sociology from York College of Pennsylvania; Masters of Science in Social Work from Temple University, and anticipates completion of her Doctor of Social Work dissertation in 2018 from the University of Pennsylvania.

5 Presenter Jim Holler BIO: Serving as Chief of Police for Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania for 16 years and also being Fire Marshal for 8 of those years contributes to Jim s abundance of experience/material to draw upon for training purposes. Prior to his law enforcement career he served as a paid firefighter for 23 years for Montgomery County, Maryland. Internationally known, Jim s training focuses on crimes against children investigations. He has trained thousands of attorneys, judges, law enforcement professionals, medical, mental health and public health professionals, social workers, and advocates both in the United States and internationally. Over 30 years of law enforcement/public service experience provided firsthand the failures and successes of child abuse investigations and the degree to which the well-being of a child victim depends on the actions adults and professionals are willing to take.

6 Presenters: David Turkewitz, M.D. and Emily Huggins, RN, BSN, MHA, CEN, SANE-A, SANE-P BIOS: David Turkewitz, MD Medical Director Adams County Children s Advocacy Center Chairman Pediatrics York Hospital Co-Medical Director Women and Children s Services WellSpan Health Dr. David Turkewitz is a graduate of Columbia College, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Children s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Turkewitz holds the position of Medical Director of Adams County Children s Advocacy Center, Chairman, Pediatrics York Hospital, and Co-Medical Director Women and Children s Services WellSpan Health. In 1992 Dr. Turkewitz was in the first group of physicians to achieve sub-board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and has maintained current board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He has extensive clinical and teaching experience in the areas of pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric critical care, consultative pediatrics, hospitalist pediatrics, behavioral pediatrics and child abuse. Dr. Turkewitz serves on the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Children s Advocacy Center Advisory Committee and the Pennsylvania Attorney General s Advisory Board on child abuse. He is a recognized expert in the field of child abuse and well known for his clinical, educational, and child advocacy efforts. Emily Huggins, RN, BSN, MHA, CEN, SANE-A, SANE-P WellSpan Health, Forensic Examiner Program Manager Emily Huggins has been a registered nurse for 21 years working in acute and long-term care settings including emergency services at York Hospital where she began performing Sexual Assault Forensic Examinations 16 years ago. Emily holds certifications in Emergency Nursing, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-A and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-P. Her current responsibilities as the WellSpan Health, Forensic Examiner Program Manager include: direct patient service, development and implementation of policy related to forensic nursing practice, coordination of quality improvement initiatives, staff education for WellSpan Health, and serving as a consultant to community agencies for education, coordination of care, and public speaking needs. Emily serves on multiple state and local committees and teams including both the Adams and York County multidisciplinary investigative teams. Emily is a member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses and has created two peer reviewed publications written related to the care of forensic medical patients. Emily is the 2016 winner in the community nursing category at the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania.
