Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30 to 7 p.m. $35 for a 10-class card This 30-minute class, led by Gina Moore, AFAA certified, will help you develop a stronger, firmer core with abdominal, oblique, and lower back exercises. Register online at fairviewhospital.org/wellnesscenter or call Barre Classes 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. $35 for 10-class card Barre Flow Tuesdays Barre Flow class focuses on balance and flexibility that includes a minute stretch with lighter intensity and no cardio. Participants use small and large balls, resistance bands and yoga straps. Barre Flex Thursdays Barre Flex class focuses on strength and movement goals with a slightly more intense, low-impact cardio that includes a 5-10 minute stretch, use of small and large balls and weights. Our barre classes, led by Charlotte Petrie, IFTA, will tone, lengthen, and sculpt your whole body and improve your balance, all while having fun working out! 4 SENIOR FITNESS CLASSES Exercise is a key to healthy aging. Stay active and healthy with our senior fitness classes! Fitpaths (Ages 50+) Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays* 9 to 9:50 a.m. $35 for 10-class card This 50 minute class, led by Gina Moore, AFAA certified, is for adults who want to reap the benefits of aerobic and strength training. This class is geared towards all fitness levels with many modifications available. Dress in comfortable, loose clothing, and leave class feeling energetic. *NOTE: Last SATURDAY Class is May 12. Saturday classes will begin the Saturday AFTER Labor Day. Advance purchase of a 10-class card is required. 5 Chair Yoga Mondays 10:15 to 11 a.m. $35 for a 10-class card Chair yoga can improve your flexibility, strength, balance, and posture. Courtney Berg, RYT 200, will lead you through a series of stretches and yoga postures that can be modified to accommodate limited mobility or difficulty balancing. Practice yoga together in an engaging, developmentally appropriate manner to help your child build confidence and self-esteem, as well as a strong and healthy body. 6 QIGONG, TAI CHI AND YOGA CLASSES Practice self-care, deepen your bond with baby, and meet other local moms at our Mom & Baby Yoga Sessions NEW: Afternoon and evening sessions are available! Mom & Baby Yoga (Infants 6 weeks to crawlers) 6-week session: Tuesdays, May 1 May 29 1 to 1:45 p.m. 6-week session: Wednesdays, May 2 June 6 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. $60 a session (1 parent/1 baby) Join Lyndsey Needham, RYT-200 and Certified Yoga Therapist, for a 6-week yoga session that will help you regain strength, relieve stress and bond with your baby. You will learn techniques to soothe and support your baby s growing body, as well as fun, playful ways to incorporate your baby into yoga poses. No previous yoga experience necessary. YOGA FOR YOU CLASSES WITH CAROLE LESKO Yoga for YOU Mondays May 14 Aug. 27 6:30 to 8 p.m. (no class May 28) $72 for six classes or $12 per class WELCOME beginners and experienced yoga practitioners! Yoga will be practiced slowly with attention to the alignment of the poses, viniyoga (step by step). This class is for all ages and beneficial for many medical conditions including people with back challenges. There is no competition in yoga, everyone listens to their body. Yoga Flow Wednesdays May 16 June 27 6:30 to 8 p.m. $12 per class Yoga and stretching are a gentle way that flows (continues) from one pose or stretch to another. They cause the body, mind and breath to unite. It is meditation in motion that soothes every part of your being. It feels luxurious and relaxing while strengthening and coordinating the mind/body connection. Yoga Flow generates more energy as stress is released. Come try a class and see for yourself. Call Carole Lesko at to register. 4 CLEVELAND CLINIC YOGA CLASS Cleveland Clinic Wellness Yoga Level 2 Mondays 5 to 6 p.m. $12 per class (General Public) $5 per class (Cleveland Clinic Caregivers) Wellness Yoga Level 2 class will incorporate postures that are practiced while seated on a chair, or standing, using the chair as a prop. The instructor will guide participants of all ability levels, and may be practiced as gently or strongly as the student prefers. Advance registration is required. Yoga as Therapy Fridays May 18 Aug. 31 9:30 to 11 a.m. $72 for every six classes or $12 per class This class is open to everyone. A gentle but strengthening class utilizing breathing techniques, meditation and asanas (poses) along with stretching and warm-ups. This class is guaranteed to empower you with techniques to feel more confident in your everyday movements. Everything about yoga reduces stress. Yoga is anti-aging! 8 MEDITATION AND HOLISTIC CLASSES Deep Relaxation Thursdays 12 to 12:30 p.m. $50 for a 10-class card or pay a $10 drop-in fee (exact cash only) Our deep relaxation class, led by Lauren Fraley, RYT 200, focuses on simple, beginner-friendly mindfulness and meditation techniques that establish states of deep relaxation. You will experience practices that release physical, mental, and emotional tension. Perfect for relieving stress, reducing anxiety, and promoting healing. This unique training will teach Reiki practitioners how to adapt their energetic skills to promote the health and wellbeing of animals. They will learn about the animal chakra systems, energetic assessment and treatment techniques, and how to use other holistic modalities such as essential oils and meditation with animals. Attention will also be given to using Reiki to help caregivers connect with their pets and using Reiki during end of life situations. Reiki Level 1 is a prerequisite. MAY Understanding Dementia Related Behavior Thursday, May 17 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Free Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost. However, some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers to manage. Join us to hear directly from a staff member from the Alzheimer s Association to learn how to decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer s disease. Ketogenic Diet What to Expect Tuesday, May 22 6 to 7 p.m. Free The Ketogenic or Keto Diet is a low carbohydrate, moderate protein, high fat diet that puts the body into a metabolic state known as ketosis. The diet has traditionally been used to treat epilepsy in children and adults. However, within recent years, the diet has had a new surge of popularity in studies with other heath conditions as well as a means for weight loss. According to the Office on Women s Health, nearly 1 in 4 women report experiencing violence from a current or former spouse or boyfriend at some point in her life. Please join us for this special presentation by Public Information Officer George Lichman, Lieutenant, City of Rocky River, Division of Police. He will review the current codes; how to recognize an abusive relationship; and what steps you can take to protect you and/or your loved one by making a safety plan. Nuts, seeds and oils not only do this but also provide crunch, protein, texture and taste to meals and snacks. Falling is NOT a normal part of aging and there are simple actions you can take to reduce your risk of falling. Please join Cleveland Clinic Physical Therapist Mary Morrison to learn about the risks and fear of falling. She will demonstrate exercises you can do to decrease your risk of falling. 11 Self-Defense Class Wednesday, June 20 7 to 8:30 p.m. $10 Come to this hands-on basic personal protection strategies training class offered by the staff of Riverview Martial Arts and Fitness. Participants will perform defensive moves to protect against strikes, grabs, holds, and chokes that don t require a lot of practice or a high level of physical fitness to execute. The instructor will also teach attendees how to use a variety of defensive devices including pepper spray. Most importantly, you will learn what signals predators look for and how NOT to send those signals. Space is very limited. For people with diabetes, it is important to eat healthfully to achieve good blood sugar control and reduce the risk of diabetes associated conditions. One diet that has gained popularity is the Paleolithic Diet otherwise known as the Paleo, Caveman, and Stone Age or Ancestral diet. The media has touted it as a way to lose weight and cure and prevent diseases. 13 The Movin Crew 8-week session Tuesdays June 19 Aug. 7 3 to 4 p.m. Free Led by Cleveland Clinic Children s Therapists, this group offers children ages 5-12 the opportunity to participate in a walking club! The child must be willing to participate and walk independently or use a device (arm canes, walker, self-propelled wheelchair). If the child needs assistance they will need a sibling or caregiver to remain present with them during the group. The Movin Crew will be given a brief pre and post assessment so that over the course of the 8-week program, we can monitor improvements. Weekly introductory ice-breakers will help the participants develop a sense of belonging to this crew.
