SNF Part A payments and Medicaid value-based purchasing programs also are focusing on rehospitalizations. All of this is occurring in the face of enforcement of the new Requirements of Participation. Kathleen Weissberg will provide a detailed overview of the six new quality measures and their impact on Five-Star Quality Ratings. The Use of Antipsychotic Medication in Virginia Assisted Living Facilities Jenny Inker Department of Gerontology Virginia Commonwealth University Up to 90 percent of assisted living residents live with dementia, and an unknown number are prescribed antipsychotic medications to manage symptoms including wandering, agitation, and aggression. Antipsychotic medications carry significant health risks, including serious illness and death. Jenny Inker will share results of an innovative research study on the use of antipsychotic medications in assisted living facilities (ALFs) funded by the Alzheimer s and Related Diseases Research Award Fund (ARDRAF) and conducted by VCU and the Virginia Geriatric Mental Health Partnership.
