2 HOTEL Tan-Tar-A, 494 Tantara Drive, Osage Beach, Missouri Make your hotel reservation by calling Room rate: $119 double occupancy, mention the MLN convention to receive this discounted rate. Only a limited number of rooms are reserved at this rate. To help ensure this rate you must book your reservation by March 13. Parking is free and is located on the hotel grounds. REGISTRATION FEES Registration fees include course materials and certificates of attendance, beverage breaks, one continental breakfast and one lunch. MEMBER DISCOUNTS Member discount, 50% off the Regular registration fees are available to all students and faculty who belong to a school of nursing which is an Organizational Member. PAYMENT OF REGISTRATION FEES Please submit ONE form of payment for all registrations from the same school. Contact the MLN office if this is not doable. See registration form for deadline dates and payment rates. WE CANNOT BILL YOU. Registrations may be submitted by mail, fax, or online at Discover/MasterCard/Visa accepted. There is a $30 service charge on all returned checks. SUBSTITUTIONS AND CANCELLATIONS Substitutions are allowed. You may cancel up to 5 business days prior to the conference and receive full credit to use towards a future program or upon written request a refund less a $25 processing fee. Cancellations less than 5 business days may send a substitute or transfer (less $25) registration to another workshop within 6 months. Refunds/credits are not offered if registrant fails to attend without prior notification. MLN reserves the right to substitute presenters without notice. CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION Confirmations are sent to the address given on the registration form. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Please bring a sweater or jacket due to variations in meeting room temperatures. HANDOUTS Handouts will be ed one week prior to the program. It is your responsibility to print off the handouts and bring them with you to the conference, or if you prefer, store them on an electronic device and bring your computer with you. Internet is not provided in the meeting rooms. Some sessions will provide hard copies the day of the conference.

This session will give you tips on handling that first year in practice...from someone who knows! All your questions will be answered about what it is like to be a new nurse from a nurse who has been in the field for 3 years or less. Come prepared with questions so you can find out what it takes to transition from student to professional. 2:00pm-2:30pm Job Expo/Trade Show/Photo Booth/Door Prizes (Wingate Hall) Exhibit booth drawings will be announced! Must be present to win. 2:30pm-3:30pm Documentation, Legal and Ethical Issues (Salon C) Panelist: Attorneys and Health Care Professionals As a nurse what do you need to know about documentation, legal issues, and ethical issues? These professional panelists will share their expertise and first hand stories of what you must know. Reducing Incivility in the Workplace (Salon C) Speaker: Allison Norwood, Associate Professor, Adjunct Faculty, Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Missouri We will focus on the definitions of incivility, bullying, and later violence. The range of behaviors associated with incivility in various settings will be discussed as well as the impact of incivility on nursing education, practice, patients, and health care settings. The session will conclude with strategies to promote a culture of respect and civility in nursing practice. Entertainment and Cash Bar (Salon C)

This inspirational session will give you clinical insight and pearls from the only practicing quadriplegic Emergency Physician in the world. 9:15am-12:30pm 9:15am-10:15am PN: Test Taking Strategies (3 hour session with 15 minute break) (Salon C) Speaker: ATI Nursing Education, Live Review Educator and NCLEX Specialist This Seminar is designed to improve students ability to correctly answer questions on nursing examinations, promoting overall student success. A review of alternate item formats is provided as well as a comparison of knowledge vs. application exam items. Test taking strategies include a review of Stem-Think-Options-Pick (STOP), priority setting frameworks and default strategies. RN: Resume Writing and Interview Tips (Room 62) Speaker: Hospital Recruiter This session will give you tips to put you ahead of all other applicants when it comes to finding a job! We will go into detail about how to get noticed, how to present yourself, and how to sell yourself when putting together your resume and once you get to the interview process. 10:30am-11:30am RN: Workplace Violence in Health Care (Room 62) Speaker: BJ Whiffen, DNP, RN, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, Dean of Nursing, Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Cape Girardeau, Missouri Violence in the healthcare workplace is frightening. Also called occupational violence, nurses are particularly affected- 25% of nurses have been physically assaulted by patients or patient s families at least once in their career. The American Nurses Association has recently posted a position paper advocating zero tolerance for workplace violence. This presentation will help nurses understand what is considered workplace violence, identify potential behavior that could lead to workplace violence and what action to actively reduce your risks of becoming a statistic.
