The BAE department maintains a resume book online for potential employers to review. You can stop by my office to see a copy or request a copy at: Employers use the resume book to screen for potential employees. It is a great marketing tool for both you and the department. There is no reason for your resume to not be included - it is free. I update the online version of the book approximately every month. Resume length is restricted to 1 page with margins no less than ½ inch. I will update the first version of the 2017/18 resume book by September 18. If you would like your resume included in the book, please an updated resume version in MS Word or pdf format to reesel@msu.edu as an attachment. Bring your resume for a bit of upkeep and get ready for the career fair season! 2

3 How do you build your resume consider a local parttime job while taking classes Local internships and jobs posted in Handshake Attached, Local internships jobs update pdf is a list of 155 current internship opportunities (plus 233 part time jobs) that are either on MSU s campus (or with an MSU department away from campus) or in the Lansing area. All 388 internships and part time jobs are posted in your Handshake account at the CareerNetwork.msu.edu website. It pays to apply for jobs as soon as possible as employers sometimes close postings quickly. You can learn more about AND apply for jobs through the free online Handshake service. Once at Handshake, you'll need to fill out your profile and upload your resume. With your profile and resume in place, you'll be able to search for job openings and submit applications by clicking on the "Apply" button in the job description or following the employer s instructions. Here s how to quickly locate a specific job posting in Handshake: 1) Log in to your student account in Handshake at msu.joinhandshake.com 2) Copy and paste a Job ID number from the attached spreadsheet into the search box 3) Click search, click on the job title, read the details and apply if appropriate Good luck with your student job or internship search! ***Work in the MSU Dairy Plant*** I was contacted again this week about openings in the MSU Dairy Plant. This is a great part-time resumebuilder opportunity. See the attached flyer. The MSU Diary Plant is a fully licensed food manufacturing plant. Students who have experience working in the plant in a production role are highly sought out by industry and not just the food industry. This is a career based experience you can add to your resume, and we have had many BE students who have worked in the plant. 3

Our Vision is a world of environmental, social, and economic prosperity created and sustained by local and global collective action. Our Mission is to forge innovative, lasting solutions to local and global sustainability challenges. We accomplish our vision and mission through: Design and implement sustainable projects through our student and professional chapters. Educate and train individuals and organizations on sustainable policies and practices. Build a global network of communities with a shared culture of sustainability. General meetings are biweekly, starting on September 12 from 7-8 pm in 119 Farrall Hall. Career Preparation The following list outlines campus wide career events for the fall semester. Please mark these dates and times on your calendars now! This includes freshmen, who can use these events for career exploration, professional networking and finding part-time jobs or even internships. For everyone else, these events are your gateways to internships, professional networking and full-time employment you have to attend no excuses. Pre-Career Gallery Meet and Greet Information Sessions Food/Biomedical Industry Organizations October 2 & 3, 6-8 pm, 116 Farrall The BE, Food Market Association and the Food Science Clubs will host two Pre Career Gallery Meet and Greet Informational Session for Food Industry Organizations. Personal invitations are being sent to alumni so students should feel very comfortable talking to these representatives. Last year we had 10 companies who participated. Companies will present a brief presentation on career opportunities with sufficient time for questions and informal meet and greet. This is a great opportunity to network and break-the-ice before career fairs and all the masses. Freshmen, this is a fantastic venue for you to learn about careers and what doors your major might open. Representative likely will have sample products. Please mark your calendars now to attend. 5 The FMI Foundation in partnership with the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI) is offering scholarships to students who have a true interest in the field of accredited food safety auditing and are currently enrolled in food and agricultural science majors in colleges and universities in North America. These scholarships are extremely competitive and are based primarily on academic ability; leadership potential; motivation and initiative; along with a passion for the food safety industry and the auditing profession. In addition, scholarship recipients will receive an education travel grant to attend the SQF International Conference where they have the opportunity to network and connect with over 750 food safety professionals. Please visit the following website to view eligibility requirements and application criteria: MSU Federal Credit Union Internship Opportunity Award Fall 2017 Support for unpaid internships Internship Opportunity Award Overview Through the generosity of the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) and individual donors, the MSU Career Services Network is able to grant stipend awards for undergraduate students participating in unpaid internships located in the United States during the Fall 2017 semester. The MSUFCU Internship Opportunity Award program was established to encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity to accomplish educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals and the initiative to seek experiential learning opportunities to further progress toward their career. The number of awards will be given based on available program funds and demonstrated student interest and need. Recipients will be required to express acceptance and appreciation in writing within three (3) weeks of notification of the award, participate in a pre-internship Career Services workshop and post-internship donor event, and help with other program-related activities (details shared after award notifications.)
