2 2017 Accounting and Finance Fair Date: Tuesday, September 19 th Time: 5:00pm-6:30pm Location: Claver Hall, Mountain View Room (Northwest Denver Campus)

3 CareerLink CareerLink = Online job posting system The link to access your account is available through the Center for Career and Professional Development s website at Your student ID number is both your username and your password for CareerLink You must have a CareerLink account in order to access the accounting positions available and to apply online. If you are unable to access your account, please call the Center for Career and Professional Development at for assistance. You will need to have your resume ready to upload to your CareerLink profile

4 Overview of the Hiring Season Each job posting on CareerLink will have its own application deadline date Make sure you are checking each company for specific resume submission deadlines On-campus interviews will follow anywhere from a few days to a few weeks after the fair

5 Go to and click on CareerLink

6 Sign into CareerLink using your Student ID number as both your Username and your Password. Contact the Center for Career and Professional Development at if you encounter a problem with login.

7 Click on My Profile to make sure you have all of your settings correct and documents uploaded

8 Click on Demographic Information All accounting and finance position postings require you to post a GPA here and on your resume

9 Click on Additional Information Tab VERY IMPORTANT: In order to view the positions and qualify for the interview, you must have the Job Industry Preference and Job Type Preference set to match whatever the job posting states

10 Click on My Documents

11 Upload your resume here. Make sure your resume does NOT have errors! We strongly recommend you schedule an appointment with the Center for Career and Professional Development to have your resume reviewed. Accounting firms are very specific about what they want to see on a resume (including GPA). Don t take chances have your resume reviewed by a professional.

12 You may upload more than one resume, if you like, but make sure you label them so you remember which position each resume is for.

13 If all of your documents are uploaded correctly, and your profile is accurate, clicking Sign-up for Interviews I qualify for will give you access to all oncampus accounting and finance interviews.

14 Click on the company or position that you are interested in The list on CareerLink may not be final, so continue to check back often to see if any additional companies have been added.

18 CareerLink To apply for more positions, repeat this process Remember, just because you apply for a position, does not mean you automatically qualify for an interview Employers will review each resume and select the candidates to be interviewed

19 Accepted for Interview The interview time slot options will not appear on your CareerLink account until the employers have chosen whom to offer interviews If you are accepted for an interview, you will be notified via an Accepted for Interview from Karen Adducci, (Career Development Specialist in the Center for Career and Professional Development) You may also continue to check your CareerLink account for your application status Signing up for an interview time slot is YOUR responsibility. Remember, first come, first served

20 Interviewing Preparing and practicing is very IMPORTANT Research the company Know the company and the job description Dress for Success Dark colored pant suit or skirt suit (black, navy or gray) Light colored button-up shirt Matching is important Subtle accessories Clean, fresh & well-groomed

21 Interviewing Arrive early and prepared Remember parking may be difficult - allow yourself extra time Know and be able to articulate why you are the best candidate for the position Be positive Highlight your skills, strengths and talents as they relate to the job Schedule an appointment with a Career Development Specialist in the Center for Career and Professional Development for a mock interview prior to your interview.

22 Follow Up Send a thank you to everyone who was present during the interview (Hint: ask for each person s business card so you have their contact information in hand before leaving) Send your Thank You right away (within 24 hours) Keep it short and concise, and try to mention something that you and the interviewers discussed during your meeting Use spell-check, and if possible, have someone other than yourself proof-read it for errors before sending
