1 Elizabethtown College INTERNATIONAL PEER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM Application Materials and Procedures Thank you for your interest in applying to be International Peer Ambassador. Below is important information that pertains to the application process. Enclosed are application materials for the International Peer Ambassador Program. All application materials, including reference letters, are due by 5:00 pm on Monday, February 14 th, Be sure to complete and submit all parts of the application. Only completed applications will be reviewed for consideration. Two reference letters must be submitted, either with your application or separately. One letter should be written by an Elizabethtown College faculty member who can verify your academic strengths (most likely your advisor). The other letter should be written by an Elizabethtown College faculty or staff member who will address your leadership skills. Reference letters must be received by the due date of February 14 th, Sign and date the judicial check form (issued separately) and take it to the Dean of Student s office in the BSC, Room 208. This form allows the Dean of Students to share your disciplinary records with the. Request an official transcript to be sent to the. You can do this in person at the Registrar s Office in Zug 210. All applicants will receive notification via campus mail of their application status on Monday, February 28 th, Note that only applicants who meet the GPA requirement of 2.5 or higher will be interviewed. Interviews for all positions will occur during the week following spring break, March 14-18, Successful candidates will be notified by by Monday, March 21 st, The deadline to accept an IPA offer is Monday, March 28 th, Please direct questions regarding the International Peer Ambassador application process to Kristi Syrdahl, International Student Advisor, at extension 1594 or by ing her at syrdahlk@etown.edu.

2 Elizabethtown College International Peer Ambassador Information KEEP FOR YOUR RECORDS Elizabethtown College International Peer Ambassadors (IPAs) are students who demonstrate academic success, leadership, and cultural sensitivity. IPAs are chosen based on their interpersonal, academic, and leadership skills, as well as their experience and interest in working with individuals from other cultures. International orientation is the process of assisting new international students through the transition necessary for a successful college experience in the United States. IPAs provide a system of support to new international students by introducing them to the Elizabethtown College campus, its resources, and US culture in general. IPAs also act as a resource from the first contact in June through the end of the international student s first semester in cooperation with the International Student Advisor and the Director of the. Qualifications Full-time student in good academic and social standing A minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher Attendance at Elizabethtown College for the Fall 2011 semester Attendance at training and orientation sessions in spring and fall 2011 Demonstrated leadership and cultural sensitivity skills Willingness to devote majority of extracurricular time to serving as an IPA Benefits International Peer Ambassadors gain many skills and benefit in the following ways: Opportunity to participate in summer and fall training which includes sessions on leadership, character, and community building Opportunities to meet and assist new students Networking opportunities with peers and faculty/staff at the College Strong leadership experiences added to your resume Stipend for attending summer training/orientation and for fall training/orientation Responsibilities International Peer Ambassadors will: Attend and participate in ALL training sessions and Orientation activities (for Fall 2011, orientation activities will begin August 20 th and continue until classes start on August 29 th ) Acquaint new students with the campus environment Be visible and easily identifiable as International Peer Ambassadors Assist in the preparation of Orientation activities Assist with airport/train station pick-ups during orientation, moving in, room preparation Participate in international student activities throughout the semester, including trips, social events, and educational events Comply with and support all rules and regulations of Elizabethtown College International Peer Ambassadors MUST be available to attend all training sessions NO EXCEPTIONS! 5 3. What makes you uniquely qualified to assist newly arrived international students as they adjust to living and studying in the United States? This might include study abroad experiences, living or working abroad experiences, participation in International Club activities, living on the GEMs floor, friendships with students from other cultures, foreign language classes, or other classes you have taken that focus on international or cultural issues. PART III: References Please list the names of your two references. Both individuals must be employees of Elizabethtown College. It is your responsibility to make sure that your reference letters are submitted by 5:00 pm on Monday, February 14 th, This means you should contact your references right away to ensure they have enough time to submit the reference form.
