3 MOTIVATION FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF THE NETWORK NEED TO ENHANCE REGIONAL CP COOPERATION 18 countries with CP activities in the region, with cooperation only based on personal relationships; There is a vast amount of CP, EST and related information, which can be shared through a Knowledge Management System in a more organized and effective way; Coordinate efforts to disseminate CP and EST in the region; Availability of experienced CP and EST experts in the region to be shared among the members of the network; Possibility to develop regional initiatives and projects that benefit from the experience of several countries.

6 OBJECTIVE MAIN Objective: Create opportunities to support and coordinate the regional CP and related activities, in order to foster the implementation and dissemination of Sustainable Industrial Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

7 DETAILED OBJECTIVES Organize and coordinate activities among the members of the network; Promote and support the members of the network; Facilitate the creation of favourable conditions for the promotion and diffusion of Cleaner Production and related issues.

10 RESULTS AND ACTIVITIES ACHIEVED BY 2007 The structure of the RCPP-LAC is set up and operations started. Annual regional meeting of the Programme: 1. Guatemala (23-26 August 2005) 2. Nicaragua (2-5 July 2006) 3. Lima (23-27 July 2007) The UNIDO endorsed CP award, based on the UNIDO CP training toolkit, is promoted in the region: 22 awards delivered; 2 nd training carried out in Honduras in 2007 for 19 CP experts.

11 RESULTS AND ACTIVITIES ACHIEVED BY 2007 Establishment of the Knowledge Management System (KMS) design, operation and training of users and experts on its function. Recompilation of information on CP and EST expertise of the individual members. Sector-specific regional CP, EST and Closing-the-Loops projects elaborated. Study on available financial mechanisms and schemes, in order to develop new cooperation mechanisms (i.e. green credit lines) with financial institutions in the region.

12 THE KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Internet based platform with website features Knowledge Management System (KMS) To share know-how and information among the members To promote the regional activities at national and regional level to the main target groups in the regions To facilitate the active cooperation between the CP Centres and Programmes applying Knowledge Management as an exchange tool To establish a KM Culture that will be constructed upon the existing human resources
