21 Each semester LISA provides a series of short courses in sta4s4cs for graduate students and staff lisa.stat.vt.edu/short_courses.php The LISA Short Courses are designed to teach prac4cal sta4s4cal tools to graduate students and staff for use in their research.

23 There are several reasons why faculty may be reluctant to seek sta4s4cal advice from LISA Reasons: 1. Make the graduate student do the consul4ng 2. Don t want to look ignorant. 3. Faculty want to do all of the research for themselves. 4. Don t want to share the data (paranoia). 5. Don t see how it s useful. Don t know what they don t know. 6. Don t need anything fancy. 7. Time consuming. 8. Don t know where their sources of varia4on are. 9.
24 Reasons to seek sta4s4cal advice from LISA: 1. For help in designing experiments. 2. Write bezer grant proposals. Using the appropriate sta4s4cal terms and tests. 3. Make research results defensible. 4. Learn about good sta4s4cal tools. 5. To be able to teach grad students good methods. 6. Write bezer papers. 7. Can analyze your data for you. 8. It s FREE.
