4 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT ELIGIBILITY To receive a Wentz Research Grant, you must be classified as an undergraduate at Oklahoma State University's Stillwater or Tulsa campus, have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at Oklahoma State University, and have a 3.00 minimum GPA.
5 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT FACULTY MENTOR REQUIREMENT To receive a Wentz Research Grant, you must arrange a faculty member to supervise your project. ONLY TENURED OR TENURE-TRACK FACULTY at the OSU-Stillwater or Tulsa campuses are eligible to mentor Wentz projects.
6 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT PROPOSAL GUIDELINES To receive a Wentz Research Grant, you must submit an original research proposal that... was conceived and written by you (the student) can achieve meaningful results within the award period
7 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT PROPOSAL GUIDELINES Formatting One single-spaced page in 10+ point font, including figures (diagrams, graphs/charts, images, etc.) and references (formatted according to the disciplinary mode of citation). PROPOSALS MUST NOT INCLUDE PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION, such as the student's, mentor's, graduate assistant's, research team's or lab's name, to ensure the integrity of blind review.
8 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT REVIEW PROCESS Wentz Research Grant proposals are reviewed by one of six OSU faculty committees based on the disciplinary focus of the project not the student's major: Business Education and Professional Studies Fine Arts and Humanities Life Sciences Math, Physical Sciences and Engineering Social and Behavioral Sciences Proposals for interdisciplinary projects must select one primary focus.
9 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT REVIEW CRITERIA Proposals are evaluated in a blind review process (in which the committees cannot identify either the student applicant or faculty mentor) according to the following criteria: Originality and Creativity originality of thought and creativity in approach and project design. Context results and objectives are clearly positioned within the "bigger picture." Scale and Scope meaningful results in award period without interfering with coursework. Methodology and Strategy clearly explains the research methodology and/or strategy. Resources makes thoughtful, efficient use of available resources. Style and Grammar Written in jargon-free language free of grammatical errors and is readily understandable by a broadly educated reader.
10 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT FUNDING DISBURSEMENT ACADEMIC YEAR $4,500 Disbursed to the student s Bursar account in two equal payments during the award period. $500 of the award total may be disbursed to a departmental account to cover project expenses. SEMESTER $750 Disbursed to the student s Bursar account in a single payment during the award semester fall or spring.
11 APPLYING FOR A WENTZ RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS In addition to maintaining a 3.0+ GPA and completing 12 credit hours each semester of the award period while remaining classified as an undergraduate at OSU, Wentz Research Grant recipients must fulfill the following program requirements or the award funding will be rescinded: ACADEMIC YEAR GRANTS Progress Report Symposium Presentation Final Report Meetings/Seminars SEMESETER GRANTS Symposium Presentation Optional Final Report Meetings/Seminars

23 HANDLING ETHICAL COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBLE CONDUCT OF RESEARCH Oklahoma State University subscribes to the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) as a component of our training efforts in the responsible conduct of research. The online training program titled Responsible Conduct of Research consists of several training courses from which you should choose the one most appropriate to your field. Courses include instructional material, suggested readings, and short quizzes.

26 HANDLING ETHICAL COMPLIANCE HUMAN SUBJECTS RESEARCH If you Conduct research, teaching, or testing activities involving live, vertebrate animals You need to Obtain approval for use of animals in research, teaching, or testing activities from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Report any concerns about animal health and safety; perceived deficiencies; or activities of non-compliance to the Office of University Research Compliance, the IACUC, the University s Attending Veterinarian, and/or the Vice President for Research
27 HANDLING ETHICAL COMPLIANCE OTHER COMPLIANCE PROTOCOLS Additional conditions that may require compliance measures: Conduct research with biohazardous material; toxins; Select Agents; human materials; any plant, animal, or human pathogens; transgenic plants or animals; or recombinant DNA.
