1 Established W333 Army Trail Road Wayne, IL Hello Fellow Members, I hope all are doing well and looking forward to the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons at Dunham. I know I am! The winter has been extremely busy at Dunham with a lot of improvements being done to the club. By now, I'm sure you have all noticed the remodeled upstairs Women's Bathroom. It has been a project long overdue! The Aesthetics Committee, made up of Heather Howland, Kappo McDonnell & Mary Hull did an outstanding job with the design and, of course, Al Gray, who did a great job managing the construction. If you have not seen it yet, you need to! The other project underway at the club is the Hunt Room refresh. We are waiting for curtains (they have a wonderful Hunt scene on them) and some other finishing touches to arrive, which will finish off the room. Our new General Manager, Dale Janus, is jumping right in and doing a great job (make sure you introduce yourself if you have not yet)! He has made several staffing changes to improve the service and the dining experience. I'm very excited to announce that Dale has promoted Jordin Robinson to Food & Beverage Manager. Jordin will be laser focused on making sure your dining experience is the best it can be! I'm also pleased to announce that Dale added Anahi Perez to the team as the new Catering Manager (filling Jordin's old spot). Anahi has a wealth of experience with food & beverage as well as Catering Sales, so she is ready to hit the ground running at Dunham! I want to thank all the members that took the time to respond to the Member Survey. I have to say, most of the feedback was not a surprise. The overwhelming focus of the comments related to speed of service & menu variety which have been common themes over the last several years. I have made both of these areas top priorities for Dale, Rufino, Jordin & Anahi! I will tell you, Dale and the team get it, and Dale is working diligently to make improvements in these areas. I am confident that you will quickly notice results of all the efforts in these areas. It will be continual improvement! Finally, I want to recognize many unsung heroes at the club who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make our club a better place. I apologize in advance if I have missed a few, but here we go... The entire Board of Governors, Mary Cannizzaro, Kathleen Kaska, Fred Smith, Kappo McDonnell, Joe Baron, and George Denniston. THANK YOU! Hope to see you all at the club soon! Bill Sullivan President s Report

2 General Manager s Report by Dale Janus It seems as if the weather has finally begun to realize it is actually spring. Things are beginning to grow. The grass is turning green and the flowers and trees are beginning to bloom. As the outdoor season begins to blossom and grow so does Dunham Woods Riding. With the summer fast approaching, we would like to create a social and fun environment. Over the summer we will have live music on the patio, wine tastings and so much more. Please come join us as we look forward to an eventful summer season. As we all know the summer season is so short in the Midwest that we often make every opportunity to spend as much time as possible outside. We hope that you join us for some great evenings with great entertainment. We also will be expanding our wine list with more wines by the glass and select bottle and new varietal options. Your feedback is important to us so as things progress, please always feel free to contact me with any ideas, concerns, or input. We are here to make your experiences memorable ones. Finally, it is never too early to start thinking about hosting events at Dunham Woods Riding. If you have an upcoming personal event or celebration please consider Dunham Woods Riding. Also keep us in mind when it comes to fundraisers or any sponsored event that you or someone you know may be a part of. We strive to make your event and every event here at the club special. All the Best, Dale B R E A K I N G N E W S CATERING MANAGER JORDIN ROBINSON PROMOTED TO DWRC FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER POSITION I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Event management. While I have my Iowa roots, I have made Dunham and Illinois my home, thanks to all the members. I am excited for the opportunity to stay with Dunham Woods and continue to learn at this club. I look forward to seeing the members more and being able to expand my skill set with food, wine and more! On my days off you can catch me riding my bike, reading a good book or enjoying one of the many restaurants the Fox Valley has to offer. Hope to see you all at the club soon! PAGE 2 I am a hospitality industry professional with experience in private clubs. My skills as a manager and leader have been developed through my education at Phoenix Military Academy. My strengths lie in developing standards and achieving high goals. After graduation, I began my career in restaurants while studying at Northeastern University. In 2010, I arrived at Evanston Golf where I developed and implemented my skills. I was a Banquet Captain and then promoted to Director of Catering. In 2014, I joined GAP Inc. I have been top performer in the Midwest district three times in a row. I am proud to join the DWRC staff, and have this opportunity to learn, and grow. Dunham Woods will benefit from my commitment to provide the best experience to its members and guest. I know together we can accomplish and succeed in many facets of this fine club. I look forward to calling Dunham Woods Riding my home.

3 Membership Report by Donelle Duvall Membership Chairman Many thanks to the Membership Committee, Staff, and Board for making the 2016 Spring Open House a success this year! With a robust attendance of 50 people, there was a lot of enthusiasm for Dunham Woods. At the open house, we enjoyed a new guitarist and vocalist, Jim Didomenico, who plays solo and with his band, The Underwater People. New this year was a children s table with crafts and food for our youngest guests, so parents could tour and mingle. And, of course, amazing appetizers from Chef Rufino and skewered beef and shrimp served by Sous Chef, Omar. The décor with lanterns and greens accented with white roses was the perfect Spring backdrop. Special thanks to Kathleen and Bob Kaska and Renée and Bob Kirtley for their help. For your 2016 prospective members, the $4,000 initiation fee is still available but will be expiring soon! Please encourage your friends to take full advantage of all the Summer DWRC activities and submit your applications now and... don t forget to use your gift card that was mailed earlier in the year. 4 Sports Report - by Fred Smith, Sports Director Unless the weather in early May is cool and damp, paddle tennis will start giving way to clay tennis. That weather condition has been the case in the past two years and we continued with paddle tennis through much of May. We are lucky to have that flexibility. Some Members got in the habit of bringing both gear with them on the weekends just in case. A few Members even split there time between the two sports starting with paddle tennis first while it was cold and moved to clay tennis as the morning warmed up or until the clay courts dried out from rain. Last month we had some discussion about our Giants and two were highlighted. Our featured Giant this month is Jon Pendexter. Jon is tall, fast and has a wicked, high-speed forehand. He can run around his backhand as good as Bernie Karasick. Jon is one of the rare players still using a paddle from the 1970 s - one of those that even has a harness at the bottom so it does not slip out of control. Jon shows up in many different outfits. You might recall his pic in the newsletter several months ago when it was extremely cold where he looked like a woodsman from Fargo. See if you can pick out Indiana Jones in the pic below taken last week. Some time in May we will start stocking the Pro Shop with some typical tennis apparel. If you take something, be sure to sign a chit with all the information needed to bill your account. In addition, we will submit the 2016 logo apparel offerings for your custom orders. Jim Kuntzi, our Tennis Professional, has put most of his team together for the tennis season. Returning faces are Nick Kuntzi, the #1 player at Waubonsee Valley Community College and five-year veteran, and Sydnee Unterberg, a three-year veteran and in her second year at Butler University. New faces this year are Seth Dickinson, a four-year varsity player and graduate at Geneva High School and Adam Maris, a four-year Batavia High School standout and is in his second year at University of Illinois. Congratulations to Matt Kuntzi, a six-year veteran and graduate of Roosevelt University, who landed a Tennis Professional position this year, but expect him to return for some cameo appearances. By the time you get this newsletter, you should be seeing preparation activity on the clay tennis courts. We are still shooting for a May 7 th opening of some courts, but there is a possibility of a one-week delay. We expect everything in good condition by mid-month. Stay tuned. Don t forget pre-season tune-up lesson packages from Coach Jim. If you have been dormant during the winter, four one-hour lessons will cover all aspects of play and get you ready for the season. Jim is also offering a 20% discount off all racquet services in May. TENNIS TID BITS If you ever are traveling West and hear about a tennis round robin referred to as Live Ball that you are not familiar with, don t worry because it is something close to what you have experienced at a Kuntzi-specific, strenuous, drill. In Live Ball, you have two players on the champion side and two players on the challenger side trying to take the other side by winning four points before the opposite side wins two points with no serving the pro puts the ball in play. If there are more than four players, the more you win the harder the workout. A big difference out West is that the event is an extremely rowdy, very intense, workout with music blaring, heavy trash-talking and trying to get into one s head, much more than that tempered at our. You don t find Live Ball at country clubs. You find it mainly at private home courts and tennis clubs. Rain did not stop these weekend warriors! In the meantime, see you at Corky s and/or on the platform or on the clay and/or under the canopy! PAGE 4 FRED

7 POOL NEWS WELCOME POOL MANAGER MARTIN FALENI Martin is a student at Western Illinois University and is currently studying Fire Science. Martin is a junior at WIU and plans on graduating with a Fire Science degree and also wants to become a Dive Master before he graduates. Martin is a graduate from Schaumburg High School, where he played soccer all four years along with Swimming and Water Polo. He is an avid sports fan and athlete, and was an all-conference Water Polo player in high school. Martin is currently an American Red Cross lifeguard, an American Heart Association healthcare provider and a certified rescue diver. He is also a member of the SCUBA diving club at his school, staying involved and around the water. Martin is extremely excited to manage the Dunham Woods Riding pool and is eager for the summer to start! WELCOME SWIM TEAM COACH RACHEL NAGLER CAMP NEWS D A Y C A M P PAGE 7 Rachel is completing her junior year at St. Charles East High School. She has been a member of the St. Charles East High School Varsity Swim Team for three years and has been a top competitive swimmer for the St. Charles Swim Team for nine years. At school, she has taken numerous classes involving health and athletic training, including the P. E. Leaders Program. Rachel has been working as a lifeguard at the Norris Rec Center in St. Charles, and plans to work in the fall as a physical therapy technician. WELCOME DAY CAMP DIRECTOR KASI CRUZ I am very excited for this summer. Being a camp counselor is something I ve wanted to do since I was a kid. I jumped on the opportunity to be the director because this is probably the last summer I will have a chance to do it. As many of you know, my career goals are to work my way through management positions in the private club industry, hopefully one day to be a General Manager myself. My goal for this summer is to take on more responsibility so I can further enhance my management and leadership skills. Along with being the Camp Director, I will also be managing the snack bar, serving, and taking a summer class. Some may find it overwhelming, but I thrive on the challenge. I have so many great ideas, and I can t wait to share them and make this a very successful summer.
