JANUARY 26 at 5:30 p.m. FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE - GREAT AMERICAN CAMPUS presented by Mark Tlachac, Frank Lloyd Wright Historian and Lecturer, Mark's lifelong passion for Wright's architecture has evolved into extensive work at Florida Southern College where he lectures and conducts tours of the campus. He has written and produced a DVD of Mr. Wright's work in Lakeland. This presentation tells the story of how the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture came to be built in central Florida with discussion about the structures there. In total there are six unique features of his work in Lakeland that appear nowhere else in the world. FEBRUARY 25 at 11 a.m. ARCHITECTURE OF HENRY B. PLANT presented by Heather Trubee Brown, Curator of Education at the Henry B. Plant Museum in Tampa. Heather received her Bachelor's degree in history from the College of Wooster, Ohio and a Master's degree in anthropology and museum management from the University of South Carolina. As the turn of the 20th century approached, railroad and steamship magnate Henry Bradley Plant had a vision of building a luxury resort in Tampa. Few believed Plant could build a successful grand hotel in the small fishing village that was home to just over 800 people. In 1891, the opulent Tampa Bay Hotel opened its doors with impressive reviews from major newspapers, including The New York Times. Discover how Plant's unique architectural design and thoughtfully landscaped gardens created a wonderland for Gilded Age travelers. Winter Haven Public Library Avenue A NW whpl.mywinterhaven.com
