10 TRANSPORTATION Team Arrival in Providence 1. Notification: Immediately upon finalizing travel plans, please contact Mark Devine, Tournament Director. You should FAX confirmation of arrival information as soon as possible (401) If travelling by bus, please furnish Tournament Director with Departure and arrival times as well as Bus Company name so that the police escort can meet you at the state line. 2. Airport Reception: Upon arrival in T.F. Greene Airport there will be a police escort to the team s hotel. If your team is travelling via ground transportation to Providence, the escort will meet you on a designated highway outside the Greater Providence area. 3. Transportation is the responsibility of each participating team. The local Organizing Committee suggests that you call John Gauvin at Coach Classic (401)

11 PARKING AND ARENA ENTRANCES Team buses can pull up to the rear of the Providence Civic Center to unload team participants. Athletes and coaches can enter at the stage door entrance at the rear of the Dunkin Donuts Center. The bus then must move to West Exchange Street where there will be ample parking in the RIPTA Lot. DIRECTIONS TO THE DUNKIN DONUTS CENTER: From 95 South Take 95 South to Exit 22A in Providence Take a right at the second set of lights. At the stop sign, take a right Bare right after your next set of lights. Parking garage is on your right, and the Dunkin' Donuts Center is directly across the street From 95 North Take 95 North to Exit #22 Follow the signs for downtown Providence At the end of the exit, take a right at the light At your next light, take a right (Westin Hotel is on your right) Follow down the street. 12 ADMINISTRATORS MEETING Pretournament Meeting. The NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee representative(s) will conduct two meeting of the directors of athletics and the head coach of the competing teams to review tournament procedures at The Dunkin Donuts Center in Conference Room A on Friday March, 28 th at 6:30pm. The second meeting will take place on Sunday March 30 th at 9:45 am in Conference Room A. It is mandatory that each institution be represented by an administrator and the head coach of each participating institution. Each institution should submit the following alphabetical lists (forms are included in this manual): 1. Team pass list (31 names) (coaching staff, players, trainer, managers); 2. Cheerleaders/mascot list (13 names) (12 cheerleaders and one mascot), and 3. Band pass list (25 names) (band members and instructor included in 25 limit). 4. Disqualification Form 9

13 SPORTS INFORMATION/CREDENTIALS Not later than the Monday preceding the championships, each participant s sports information director shall provide the host institution a list of media representatives from the institution s geographical area who will staff the event. Credentials Individuals requesting media credentials or lodging at the media hotel should contact Jorge Rocha, Assistant Sports Information Director (401) Postgame Press Conferences The Postgame press conferences will be conducted in the Interview Area at the Dunkin Donuts Center. There will be a press conference on the practice day; however, coaches should make themselves available to any media in attendance. 10

14 SCOUTING SEATS Scouting seats shall be reserved only for the official members of the coaching staffs of the teams participating in the tournament. These seats are located in section 213. Regional Semifinal Game No. 1. Each participating team will be provided two seats. In addition, the Semifinal Game No. 2 participating teams will be provided two seats. Regional Semifinal Game No. 2. Same as Semifinal Game No

15 TICKET INFORMATION For the regionals, teams in region may purchase 400 tickets and teams out of region will be able to purchase 200 tickets. Tickets to the team will only be sold in an all-session package. Any tickets not sold before the specified deadline should be offered (by the tournament manager) to the other participating institutions that desire additional tickets. Participating institutions are not entitled to complimentary tickets. The participating institutions must first purchase tickets, which then are treated as complimentary tickets for the student-athletes. A pass gate system will be administered by the tournament manager or his/her designated representative and an institutional representative. Full payment for tickets must be forwarded to the appropriate tournament manager within 30 days of the last date of competition at the site. A $500 fine will be assessed to an institution if its tickets are not returned within the 30-day deadline. The hockey committee may waive this provision based on extenuating circumstances. Official Party. Thirty-one members of the official traveling party (student-athletes, coaches, etc., who require bench and locker room access) shall be identified via pass list that must be provided to the hockey committee representative at the mandatory pretournament meeting. Nonplaying participant seating. The 31 credential team personnel will have access to seats for the game in which they are not participating. Teams will be escorted to the appropriate sections upon their arrival at Providence s Dunkin Donuts Center. Ticket prices. 16 BANDS, CHEERLEADERS/MASCOT All members of Band and Cheerleading Squads should enter at the Stage Door at the rear of the Dunkin Donuts Center. A. Bands. At all tournament sessions, bands in attendance shall be limited to 25 members including one conductor. Seating. Each participating institution's band will be provided 30 seats for its use. The band seating areas will be in Section 201 (the top six rows) or in Section 115 (the top two rows). Distractions. Artificial noisemakers, air horns, electronic instruments, etc., are not permissible. Tournament managers are responsible for removing instruments from the arena. National Anthem. The highest seeded team's band, if available, may be asked to play the national anthem prior to each session. Final arrangements will be communicated by the host institution. B. Cheerleaders. Number. A maximum of 12 cheerleaders or spirit squad members and one costumed mascot from each participating team shall be allowed. During pregame player introductions and the national anthem, it is permissible for the cheerleaders or spirit squad and mascot to be on the ice. Admittance. Each cheerleader, spirit squad member or mascot shall be admitted to the arena by a pass list submitted to the hockey committee representative at the pretournament meeting. Uniforms. Uniforms shall not bear any commercial identification. (please refer to the 2003 NCAA Men s Ice Hockey handbook) 13

17 TRAINING ROOM AND FACILITIES The training room is located down the hall from the team locker rooms in room number two. Hours of operation will be one hour before practice and two hours before games and through the end of practice Friday and games Saturday and Sunday. The training room will be fully equipped with the exception of whirlpools. For specific information contact John Rock (401)

For all practices, a certified staff athletic trainer will be present should you have any special needs. Locker rooms will be equipped with a taping area and the following items: towels, soap, gum, 5-gallon cooler, cups, ice cups, ice bags, and post game soft drinks. 15

19 Each bench will be provided with: One 3-gallon cooler, ice bags, ice cups, trash container, hazardous waste container, tissues and towels. If you should have any special needs, please contact John Rock prior to your trip to Providence. Equipment available includes: ice, hot hydroculator, vacuum splints, back board, crutches, ultrasound and muscle stim. 16

21 POSTGAME INTERVIEWS The sports information director representing each participant shall escort the coach and a minimum of two players to the interview area after a 10-minute cooling-off period. All dressing rooms shall be open to the media after a 10-minute cooling-off period. The timetable begins when the coach enters the dressing room immediately after the game. The coach must proceed directly to the dressing room after a game, unless requested to remain for a short interview by NCAA Productions or ESPN. The postgame press conference format shall specify that the winning coach and players should be scheduled in the interview room before the losing coach and a minimum of two players for the semifinal games. For the regional championship game, the losing team coach and players will go first followed by the winning team. The interview with the losing coach and players generally should not exceed a maximum of 10 minutes. 18

22 UNIFORM/TEAM BENCHES Teams must bring both light and dark uniforms. The higher-seeded team will wear its light uniform. Team benches will be assigned after reviewing the placement of institution tickets for each team. When possible, a team shall be placed directly in front of or across from its ticket allotment. If each team competing in a game has its ticket allotment at the same end of the ice, the team that has tickets assigned directly behind the bench shall be assigned to it. 19

23 GAME OFFICIALS Officials are selected by the NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Committee. The officials assignments will be provided at the pretournament meeting. DRUG TESTING Drug testing may occur at any session of the championship. If it occurs at this session, couriers will make contact with the studentathletes who are to be tested and will escort them to the drug-testing area after the 10- minute cooling off period.
