2 See It This Month Dorrance Galleries Modern : American Art Through September 3 Levy Gallery Larry Fink: The Boxing Photographs August 11, 2018 January 1, 2019 Modern artists inspired by jazz music began using new methods like abstraction to visualize sound. Artists like Stuart Davis and Charles Demuth used bright patterns, zigzags, colors, and lines to suggest the energy and rhythms of jazz. This month, explore the exhibition and enjoy a series of inspired jazz performances at Friday Nights. As a member, you always receive free admission, and can bring guests for just $10 each. Larry Fink s powerful, unsentimental photographs reveal the heart of close-knit communities. Here, he takes us inside what he calls the deep fraternity of the boxing gym, its intimacy and its grit, captured in more than seventy-five luminous gelatin-silver prints. Featured in the series are Philadelphia s own Blue Horizon one of the great American boxing arenas and the local fighters who ve had their dreams realized, or dashed, within its hallowed walls. Great Stair Hall Balcony Art Splash Through September 3 Tuesday Sunday, 10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays till 7:00 p.m. Explore the shapes and colors, sights and sounds of Modern and play in our own mini metropolis. Kids and their grown-ups can experience the exhibition through tours, art making, and imaginative play. Bonus Offer Receive 50% off walk-up admission at Legoland Discovery Center at Plymouth Meeting Mall. Just show your membership card when you arrive. presented by For more information on the exhibitions and programs listed here, including generous donors, please visit philamuseum.org.
