The trips are a great opportunity to get out and see what there is to do in the area and to spend time with or make new friends. All skill levels are invited to participate. Instruction and lessons will be provided as needed. The Outdoor Pursuits program also provides a variety of outdoor recreation equipment that is available to rent at no charge to UIU students. To checkout or return equipment, stop by the UIU Recreation Center front desk during open hours. Items available for rent include tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, rollerblades, skateboards, longboards, grills, coolers, backpacks, canoes, kayaks, life jackets, paddles, wet suits, dry bags, throw bags, car carriers, bikes, helmets, locks, sleds, ice skates, frisbees, lawn games, fishing supplies, and more! Families and Guests Families and guests are welcome to attend the Academic Convocation at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Other planned activities are designed for students. Families and guests may purchase meals to eat with their student. Cost is $8.25. Mail Service All Fayette Campus residential students are provided with a Campus mailbox, located in the. Commuting students may request a Campus mailbox, if desired. Students will need their ID (or other valid photo ID card) in order to collect packages. 8 FOR YOUR INFORMATION Parking Students who bring a motor vehicle to Campus and park in University parking lots must purchase a parking permit through the Facilities Management and Services department or online through myuiu. Students must submit payment of $75 to receive a parking permit. Permits and parking rules/regulations will be distributed during the noon hours in the. The permit must be in place when parked in a University parking lot. Cable and Internet Cable and internet hookups are available in every residence hall room. Students are to bring their own TV and/or computer. Upper Iowa University is pleased to provide free cable and internet service to our students. If you have problems with your cable service, please see a Resident Assistant. Internet questions can be directed to the Apogee Support Center ( ) or the IT Help Desk ( ). Transportation Students at UIU may find themselves needing transportation for various reasons. Resources are available upon request. Upper Iowa University students are responsible for their day-to-day transportation needs. Students are encouraged to plan appropriately for personal matters related, but not limited to: Airport Pick/Up and Return Medical Appointments Driver s License Shopping Academic needs, such as grad school testing practicums and internships. UIU Free Shuttle Service University transportation is available to the airport and bus terminal in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Coralville, and Waterloo at the beginning/end of terms, and surrounding breaks in the academic year. The pre-arranged trips are offered to current UIU Students at no charge. Shuttle service is only offered after the conclusion of classes for a term or a holiday break. DISABILITY SRVICS Disability Services facilitates equal access to UIU programs and activities for otherwise qualified students with documented physical, sensory, learning, or psychological disabilities. It is the responsibility of the student to disclose his/her disability and provide requested documentation in order to receive services or to arrange appropriate accommodations. Depending on the disability disclosed and the nature of the accommodations requested and reasonable, it may take several days to evaluate a student s needs and secure necessary accommodations. Students are encouraged to come to Office of Disability Services as soon as they are aware of a potential need for accommodation for a disability. The Director of Disability Services (DDS) is located on the second floor of the in the Office of Student Life. Students are responsible to provide complete and accurate travel information, including flight/bus number, date/time of trip, and cell phone number. If the trip is cancelled or changed, the student must notify the vent Manager at If notification of changes have not been received and the student does not arrive at the scheduled time, the driver will proceed to the other scheduled stops. In case of inclement weather, shuttles will be delayed until road conditions improve. University Accounts In accordance with University policy, all Fall Semester charges, including tuition, room and board, books, and additional fees, are due and payable prior to the start of school. Default in payment results in the student s enrollment being dropped, delayed or denied; satisfactory arrangements must be made before reinstatement.
