The course will traverse the trails and field loop that the cross-country team uses for training. Prizes will be awarded. Memorial Field 9 a.m. Relaxation 101: How Do I Manage Stress The Class of 2004 is sponsoring a program of yoga and meditation, open to all alums and their reunion guests. Conway Classroom (Alumni Gym) 9 a.m. Elder Care Planning Bill Moriarty, MD '79, medical director of a local nursing home, Matt Martland '79, a rest home owner and operator, and David Cagle '84, an elder law and estate-planning attorney, will explore preparing financially, mentally and emotionally for the care that will be needed as we become elderly. This will also be useful to those who care for elderly family or friends. Jeff Birnbaum '79, a financial adviser experienced in estate planning, will moderate. Presented by the Classes of '79 and ' a.m. Inspiring Our Adolescents to Meet Modern Challenges Pam Krupman Allyn '84, executive director of LitLife and author of What to Read When, Kathy McLean Matthias '84, college guidance counselor, Loyola Blakefield School, and John Polstein '84, chief executive officer at Kaplan Test Prep, discuss testing, preparing, counseling and aiding teens today as they navigate the teenage years and seek admission to college. Presented by the Class of Lecture Hall 2, Merrill Science Center 10:30 a.m. Campus Tour for Teens Teenage children of the Class of '84 will be led on a tour of the Amherst campus by a current Amherst student. This program is intended for children of class members ages 14 and older who are too young for (or are otherwise unable to attend) the Admissions Office program on Friday, May 29. Valentine Quad 1:30 p.m. Darfur Now With Producer Dean Schramm '84 Dean Schramm '84, literary and talent agent and co-producer of Darfur Now, a documentary about the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan, will show excerpts from the film, which was directed by Ted Braun '83. There will be time for questions. Presented by the Class of :30 p.m. Keeping the Lights On: The Promises and Pitfalls of Alternative Energy Tony Gordon '84, managing director, energy and infrastructure at Och-Ziff Capital Management Group, and Greg Donat '84, director, power, energy and infrastructure at Lazard Frères & Co., discuss the operational, political, and financial challenges associated with alternative energy. Topics will include the challenges to implementing wind, solar and other renewable generation; issues associated with carbon cap-and-trade systems; the potential impact of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and the "smart grid"; successes and failures that have occurred as utilities, energy companies and technology entrepreneurs pursue opportunities in alternative energy; and the role that the economic crisis, the stimulus and other factors will play in shaping alternative energy policy and implementation. 5 reunion for a ride in the beautiful Pioneer Valley and surrounding hills. We'll agree on a final route Sunday morning based on the group s interest, with the goal of a mile ride that will return to campus around 9:30 a.m. Fast riders can charge off the front, but there will definitely be a C pace group (i.e mph) bringing up the rear; no rider left behind. Memorial Hill, War Memorial (Rain Site: Johnson Chapel) Class of '84 Additional Recreational Activities Fun and Games at Class of 1984 HQ: King and s adjoin the beautiful Hitchcock Athletic Fields, leaving plenty of room for informal fun for all ages. We ll have an array of play items, such as volleyball gear, whiffle balls and bats, sidewalk chalk, Frisbees and more. Please bring your own balls, toys and games as well (clearly labeled with your name). In addition, both dorm lobbies have DVD players, so remember to bring (age appropriate!) DVD s in case the weather dictates a move indoors. Biking: A bike rail-trail now runs from Belchertown to Northampton, passing right by the Amherst tennis courts. Perfect for a ride, stroll or run on your own, if you prefer. Bike rentals are available from Trailside Bikes (located in Hadley). Campus Center Game Room Daily, until 11:00 p.m.: The Keefe Campus Center Game Room offers pool tables and arcade games. Golf: Golf is available at the Amherst Golf Club (9 hole course). Reservations are recommended. $25.00 per person for 9 holes. Tennis: Courts will be available throughout the weekend. Athletic Facilities: The College s extensive athletic facilities will be open to reunion participants. See hours below.
