We invite you to make the most out of this academic semester and continue that growth process. The spring semester is packed with exciting activities for the entire campus community. No matter which campus you attend, whether you are a residential, commuter, transfer or graduate student, we have you covered. Most of the programs listed are open to all students, faculty and staff. Be sure to check what s going on at all of our campuses. This calendar is merely an overview and guide. More programs are added to the line-up every week, so visit on a regular basis to make sure you are not missing out. 3 CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Explore. Prepare. Implement. Career Launch. The Office of Career and Professional Development is passionate about helping students prepare for their dream careers. Our events are designed to teach students about career topics such as internship and job search strategies, how to build a résumé, professional networking, and how to ace an interview. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend our events. It s never too early to start preparing. For more information, contact cpd@mercy.edu. CENTER FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND INNOVATION The Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation is a valuable resource to help students get ahead whether they are B students looking to get A s or are struggling to pass a particular course. The Center provides a friendly learning environment in which to receive tutoring in writing, math and science, as well as in an extensive range of other subjects. The highly trained and courteous staff of faculty, peer tutors and writing specialists provide the support students need to achieve academic excellence. For more information, visit the Library Learning Commons-Main Hall or contact CENTER FOR GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT The mission of the Center for Global Engagement is to identify, develop and provide transformative and dynamic global learning opportunities for students, faculty and staff. The Center builds on the mission of Mercy College and further supports the establishment of a wide range of initiatives, in the United States and abroad, to facilitate the exchange of knowledge across international boundaries. Through interdisciplinary and experiential global learning opportunities, students are able to engage in learning about cultural perspectives different from their own. DIVERSITY MONTHS & CELEBRATIONS Respect + Inclusiveness = Diversity Mercy celebrates a series of diversity awareness and celebratory months, which generate awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures and assist in embracing the diversity of our campus community. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES International Student Services assists members of the Mercy College international community by providing support and advising to ensure academic success while maintaining compliance with immigration regulations. They work to provide a meaningful cross-cultural experience for both international students and domestic College community members. International Student Services also works in collaboration with other departments to create opportunities where international students can foster a sense of community amongst each other while fully integrating into the Mercy community. OFFICE OF ACCESSIBILITY The Office of ACCESSibility provides Accommodations, Collaboration, Consultation and Educational Support Services for students with disabilities. The office works to collaborate with, and empower students, who have disabilities to enable equal access to an education and college life. ACCESS provides opportunities and resources that will facilitate the development of self-advocacy, self-efficacy and adaptive skills in students to overcome barriers a disability may present. 4 RESIDENTIAL LIFE EVENTS/ IMPORTANT DATES The Office of Residential Life is excited to offer a variety of opportunities for students to connect with staff and other residents. Be sure to check out the events and important dates. To learn more, contact the Office of Residential Life at LIBRARIES Dobbs Ferry The Dobbs Ferry Library was renovated in 2009 into a Learning Commons. It has an entirely new décor and furnishings, including an increased number of computers and added Wi-Fi accessibility. The main area offers a scenic view overlooking the new state-of-the-art athletic field and the Hudson River. The library features multiple seating arrangements including private cubicles, long study tables or comfy couches, a Café, a second floor Quiet Zone, a group study room and an art gallery featuring student work. There are PCs and Macs for students to use, copiers, scanners and free printing. There are also library laptops, headphones and course reserves that can be checked out for library use at the circulation desk. Librarians at the Research Help Desk can assist you with your research assignments. The Learning Commons building also houses the Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation (Tutoring Center), Graduate PASS offices as well as many small group study rooms available for student use. For more information contact: (circulation) (reference) (Head Librarian-Tesse Santoro) Bronx The Bronx Campus Library Learning Commons includes the Center for Student Academic Excellence, where you can find tutoring service. The library provides student workstation computers, quiet study, small group study, an instruction lab, a loaner laptop program, printers, copiers and scanner/fax capability. In addition, it features an extensive Curriculum Resources Center to support School of Education students. The Bronx Campus Library houses the Eye on the Bronx collection of books focused on the history, culture, people and contemporary life of the Bronx Community. The library s other special collection includes the Curriculum Library, which provides materials to help education students prepare lesson plans and themed units, and also includes many of the texts used in the area s primary and secondary schools. For more information, contact /56 Manhattan The Manhattan Campus Library Learning Commons provides a centralized location for learners to engage in common academic activities. The Manhattan Library offers collaborative environment supported and enhanced by the center for Academic Excellence/Learning Center and Graduate PASS student writing and research support. The Manhattan Library s general collection supports the academic programs offered at the campus, with collection strength in language and literature, education/curriculum and art. It also features a group study room. In the spring semester, the Manhattan Library hosts the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium which brings academic librarian projects from the classroom to a larger audience. For more information, contact or Yorktown Heights The Yorktown Campus Library has undergone extensive renovations to conform to a Library Learning Commons model, the vision for all Mercy Libraries. This includes student computer workstations, quiet study, small group study and instruction areas. STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION (SGA) The Student Government Association is the official governing board for the undergraduate student body. SGA provides leadership on campus and ensures that the student voice is heard. All students are encouraged to get involved. Meets every Monday at 3 p.m., Hudson Hall 120. STUDENT LIFE The mission of the Office of Student Life is to serve all students throughout all campuses and create a vibrant co-curricular and extra-curricular experience. WELLNESS PROGRAMS The Mission of Wellness Programs at Mercy College is to create and sustain a healthy campus culture that supports student learning by educating, motivating and empowering the student to participate actively in their own health maintenance.
