Our new officers and directors are: President - Shawn Laquey President Elect Open Vice President Mike Gwin Secretary Bobby McCloud Treasurer Della Gunn Past President / President s Advisor Ernest Berry Professional Development Rhonda Thomack Membership Chair / TAHU Updates Cheryl Clark HUPAC/TAHUPAC Reed Hitch Legislative Chair Bobby Clark Awards Chair Carrie Blair Community Service Chair Kevin Van Media Chair John Claborn The new officers will be installed at our June Meeting, now planned for June 19th at Harrigan s. Please put it on your calendar and attend if you can. These people give a lot of time and effort to LAAHU and they deserve your support and a good crowd at the installation. The office of President Elect is still open, let me or Shawn know if you are interested. The President Elect generally heads up the Symposium Committee (next year) and then normally becomes LAAHU s next President. The 2nd Annual Golf Tournament continues to get bigger and better every day! It is scheduled for June 9th, Monday afternoon, at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech. Last year we were able to give Komen Lubbock a check for $1500, this year we expect to donate at least $5000 to them.

It is scheduled for June 9th, Monday afternoon, at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech. Last year we were able to give Komen Lubbock a check for $1500, this year we expect to donate at least $5000 to them! Get a team together or enter by yourself and we will put you on a team. If you don t play golf you can still help with the tournament in other ways. Call Shawn Laquey or Rhonda Thomack, the Tournament Directors, at to sign up to play or to volunteer or even to donate! We need your help! The deadline to enter is June 4th. Hope to see you at both events! Ernest 2014 Annual Convention & Exhibition June 29-July 2, 2014 Westin Kierland Resort & Spa Scottsdale, AZ If you are a first time convention attendee, please check with your chapter before registering. Please be aware of the following event dates when selecting your event function preferences: Saturday - Soaring Eagles Qualifiers Only Symposium; Sunday - Chapter Management Sessions & Chapter Leadership Forums; Monday - Professional Development Day - select sessions accordingly. Cancellation Policy- There will be $50 processing fee per registered member for cancellations received by May 8th; a $75 processing fee per registered member for cancellations from May 9th to May 23rd; and no refunds for cancellations received after May 23rd. (NOTE: All cancellations must be in writing via or fax; no telephone cancellations accepted. All refunds will be processed after the convention- within 30 days.)

4 LUBBOCK AREA ASSOCIATION OF HEALTH UNDERWRITERS Page 4 TAHU Report The state convention in Houston was awesome and one of the best we have ever had. Kudos to Mark Bellman and company for pulling it off! And we were honored that LAAHU got mid-sized chapter of the year! Thank you! It has also been a big last quarter for LAAHU and for the final part of my stint as President. Our membership has held steady at around 60 members, as it has all year. That was a great accomplishment I think given that this was the year the Affordable Care Act took full force. I give Cheryl Clark, our membership chair, and Shawn Laquey, our best new member recruiter, most of the credit. Our April and May membership meetings were attended by about 30 members. We had 2 hours of free C.E. provided by Optum on HSA s at the April meeting. At the May meeting we elected our new Board of Directors for the coming year. Shawn Laquey, our current Secretary, will become our new President in July and we are expecting great things of him and his new Board. We will be installing the new Board at our June meeting. Last year we decided to have our First Annual LAAHU Charity Golf Tournament. We really just kind of through it together on short notice but it was a success. We were able to give Komen Lubbock, our chosen charity, a check for $1500. This year, with a lot more planning and work, we expect to be able to give at least triple that amount. LAAHU s 2 nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament will be held at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech on Monday afternoon, June 9 th. Check out our golf tournament website at txgta.com. We are also raising money for LAAHU with these golf tournaments. We hope to be able to encourage more of our members to attend the state and national conventions with some of the extra money generated by the tournaments. And, we are also planning to donate more money to other charitable organizations as well. Well that s about all from me, thanks to everyone for a wonderful year! Ernest
