3 Lions Mission Statement TO CREATE AND FOSTER a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation. Lions Objectives TO CREATE and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world. TO PROMOTE the principles of good government and good citizenship. TO TAKE an active interest on the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community. TO UNITE the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding. TO PROVIDE a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members. TO ENCOURAGE service-minded men and women to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors. Lions Code of Ethics To Show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service. To Remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself. Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubts against myself. To Hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given. Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state, and my community, as to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act, and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means. To Aid others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy. 3

30 BEACON LODGE ( - The Pennsylvania Lions' Beacon Lodge Camp is a beautiful five hundred and eighty-three acre camp for children and adults with special needs including blindness, deafness, and many other physical and mental challenges. It is nestled in the natural woodlands along the Juniata River of Central Pennsylvania just two miles west of Newton Hamilton, near Mount Union. Beacon Lodge was established in 1948 as a summer camp for blind residents of Pennsylvania. It has grown into a favorite retreat for many people with disabilities as well as a conference center for special groups, an educational facility for families, a rental camp for group retreats, and more. The goals of the camp were and are to present a well rounded program adaptable to all campers and others, regardless of age, race, creed or color. Beacon Lodge s Mission Statement is to provide all individuals with special needs, the opportunity to enjoy a camping experience encompassing recreational, educational, and personal adjustment. Special emphasis is placed on stimulating interests and appreciation for recreation and learning, and to encourage attempting new challenges. DIABETES AWARENESS (American Diabetes Assoc : The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. The mission of the Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. You can touch the lives of family, friends, co-workers and anyone who lives with diabetes by participating in America s premier walking event to benefit the American Diabetes Association and the 20.8 million American adults and children who cope with type 1 and type 2 diabetes every day. District 14-D participates in the annual Diabetes Walk held in October of each year. See the District calendar for the date and location. FOUR DIAMONDS FUND Our donations to the Four Diamonds Fund will provide relief from extraordinary financial burdens for the families of children being treated for cancer at the Milton Hershey Medical Center. (It costs over $5,000 per year to cover all outpatient expenses of each child with cancer and thousands more for each month of in-hospital care. The financial impact of cancer should not destroy families as cancer destroys their children. HELEN KELLER EMERGENCY FUND This District 14-D fund, established by a Past District Governor is an emergency medical fund for eye and ear surgery. The fund is for those people who do not have medical insurance, Medicare, or public assistance. All requests need to be in writing. Please list the name of person, address, type of surgery, doctor, hospital, and the reason why this person is asking for assistance. LCIF ( - Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is the grant-making arm of Lions Clubs International. LCIF is Lions helping Lions serve others. It's the only Lions' foundation that serves the entire world and the nearly 1.35 million Lions. Working with Lions, LCIF prevents blindness. It provides food and clothing to victims of natural disasters. It also gives youth the tools to succeed through Lions-Quest, empowers the disabled through vocational training, and promotes health by equipping clinics and hospitals. LCIF is an efficient and effective charity. Administrative costs were 12.4 percent in , a very good ratio. Every dollar donated to LCIF goes to a grant. LCIF receives no club dues. LCIF has awarded US$375 million in grants since it began in 1968 LEADER DOGS FOR THE BLIND ( Located in Rochester, Michigan Leader Dogs for The Blind was founded in 1939 by Lions Club members, Charles Nutting, Don Schuur and S.A. Dodge. Leader Dog has successfully matched and graduated over 13,000 person / dog teams since its inception. The dream of these men became vision and independence for thousands. The facilities, located on the original 14 acres first purchased by the founders, have morphed from a farm with numerous outbuildings to a superb residence center, a stellar kennel, and well manicured grounds. This complex home to our students, dogs, all service departments and the support staff that enable Leader Dog to enhance the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals from all over the world. 29

LIONS QUEST ( Lions Quest programs are school-based, comprehensive, positive youth development and prevention programs that unite the home, school and community, to cultivate capable and healthy young people of strong character, through life skills, character education, SEL, civic values, drug prevention, and service-learning education. Quest programs enhance the academic mission of K-12 schools through exceptional professional development, which is an essential component of implementation. Lions Quest programs are sponsored by Lions Clubs International Foundation, and recognized as highly effective programs by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). PA LIONS FOUNDATION ( - The PA Lion Foundation was incorporated as the charitable arm of the Pennsylvania Lions. The Mission of the Foundation is to assist those afflicted with sensory impairment, particularly those relating to vision and hearing. The Foundation awards Grants in support of meritorious projects and programs for the sensory impaired and joins with individual Lions Clubs in responding to local, community, and regional needs in Pennsylvania. PA LIONS HEARING RESEARCH FOUNDATION ( - The Foundation, which was created by action of the State Council, initiates and supports research on hearing problems covering a range from embryonic research through adult ages. In keeping with the Lions of Pennsylvania interest on youth activities, special emphasis is encouraged on research to prevent deafness and hearing problems among our youth. The Foundation awarded its first research grants in July 1982 and continues to award grants annually each July. PA LIONS SIGHT CONSERVATION & EYE RESEARCH FOUNDATION ( - The Foundation, which was created by action of the State Council in 1959, is unique, in that it directly supports research grants and is not involved in a day to day clinical activity. Lions/Lioness/Leos are silent partners in Eye Research being carried on in hospitals and medical colleges in Pennsylvania. Blindness is one of our major public health problems - every hour of every day five more people face a lifetime of darkness. VISION CORPS (info@visioncorps.net) Vision Corps provides services free of charge to Lancaster and Lebanon County residents who are blind or whose vision is impaired. 32 Master s Degree while their children receive a curriculum to prepare them to be 100% Kindergarten ready. Our program has a generational ripple effect that saves taxpayers hundreds of thousands in welfare costs. MOM S HOUSE is blessed to be able to fulfill our mission without receiving government or United Way funding. A Lions Prayer Where Lions meet, be present Lord, To weld our hearts in one accord. To do Thy will, Lord, make us strong aid the week and right the wrong. A Lions Prayer Lord, help me to build a Lions Club that will be strong enough to know when it is weak; Individuals brave enough to face themselves when they are afraid; A Lions Club that will be proud and unbending in honest defeat and humble in victories. Help me build a Club whose wishbone will not be where its backbone should be. A Club whose heart will be clear and whose goals will be high. Lions who will master themselves before they seek to master others. Lions who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep. Lions who will reach to the future, yet never forget the past. Then may I ask that I be granted enough sense of humor so that I may always be serious, yet never take myself seriously. Give me humility so that I may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength, so that at the end of my term I can say with honesty, that I have not served thee and this Lions Club in vain. A Suggested Invocation Our Father, we thank you for this day and the privilege to fellowship together as Lions. We ask thy blessings on all those who are serving Lionism throughout the world and may each of us in our own way serve you and our fellow man so our community might be a better place to live. Bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies and may we go forth to live up to our motto WE SERVE and do your will. Amen 31
