1 Pathways to Eagle XXI August 6th, 7th and 8th, 2010 Welcome Scouters! Welcome to the 2010 Pathways to Eagle XXI Weekend! On behalf of the Village Clerk, Board of Trustees and myself, it is our pleasure to again host this annual event. If longevity is a measure of success, Pathways to Eagle is a resounding success. Not many events can withstand the test of time, but the Pathways to Eagle weekend has evolved over the years, getting bigger and better in every aspect of scouting. We enjoy supporting all scouting programs for boys and girls, and we believe this event offers numerous opportunities for scouts to work towards the rank of Eagle Scout. We have many activities planned for you this weekend and hope that you find them worthwhile, educational and fun! If you are from out of town and there is anything you need while you are here in Bolingbrook, please don t hesitate to ask me or any of the leaders. For those of you who are fortunate to live in Bolingbrook, you know who I am. Please feel free to come up to me and say hello and enjoy our beautiful Town Center grounds. Best of luck to each and everyone of you! Sincerely, Roger C. 2 P2E_10_Scoutmaster_Letter Pathways to Eagle XXI - Scoutmaster Letter Dear Unit Leader, The Mayor of Bolingbrook, Roger C. Claar, the Village Trustees, and the Pathways to Eagle Committee would like to invite you, and your unit, to attend Bolingbrook s annual PATHWAYS TO EAGLE XXI, scheduled for. The annual event is well into the planning stages. There are many things to do for all levels of scouting. Again this year: Pay on line with credit cards through PayPal when you use the online registration process to register your unit and individuals at This event takes place on the grounds of the Town Center in Bolingbrook, Illinois, (near Routes 53 and I-55), the exact location is: 375 West Briarcliff Road, Bolingbrook, IL It will be comprised of Boy Scout Merit Badge sessions, displays by Venture Crews, Webelos activity sessions and a Cub Scout carnival. Boy Scouts, of any rank, and Venture Scouts, will be able to work on a variety of Merit Badges. There are expected to be Eagle required and about general interest Merit Badges that will be offered on Saturday, August 7th. The purpose of the Boy Scout Merit Badge sessions is to test the Scout to determine if the requirements are fulfilled. The sessions are not designed to teach. Scouts will have the opportunity to receive full credit for the badge, or partial credit, which can be used later to complete the badge. The scouts must be familiar with the requirements of the badge, which means that they must have read the book and completed the preparation work shown on the Pathways to Eagle Merit Badge requirements, on the website. Due to the shortness of the periods, teaching is not possible. The scouts should be ready for testing. It is suggested that the Scout use a Merit Badge worksheet to complete in writing as many items as they can. Merit Badge worksheets are available on the Rainbow Council web site at: Venture Crews are being asked to put up a display booth, highlighting their units. This will be on Saturday, Aug. 7th only. Please keep the area needed to an approximate size of 10 by 10. A $20.00 non refundable unit registration fee is required for all units participating, to help cover costs, please submit this fee by July 1, There will be a $5.00 late registration fee for all unit registrations received after the July 1, 2010 deadline. Blue cards will be returned by mail to the unit contact person whose name & address is on the unit registration. Also please note the fees, times and registration deadlines posted on the website. It is necessary for the Boy Scout registration to be turned in by July 23, 2010, for scheduling of Merit Badge sessions. There will be a $5.00 late registration fee for all individual registrations received after the July 23, The individual registration and the Merit Badge registration forms should be copied and handed out to your Scouts. Merit Badges requested MUST be approved by the Scoutmaster. Hope to see you there. Please let us know ASAP. 8:55:14 PM]

4 ADULT LEADER TRAINING: Pathways to Eagle XXI Reminders and changes for 2010 New This Year: Adult leadership training will be available. Adult leaders that wish to participate in the training MUST pre-register in Troop 1 and pay the full weekend fee. Note: You will NOT be registered with your Troop and will NOT count as part of the two deep leadership required. The training session starts on Friday evening at 6 pm. Contact Don at training@p2e.org for more information. ACTIVITY: Again this year Ice Skating will be available at Rocket Ice Arena on Friday evening at no charge. Skates will be available at Rocket Ice Arena while they last so if you have ice skates please bring them. Again this year we will have a climbing wall supplied by the Bolingbrook Park District on Friday evening at no charge. A BSA Class "A" uniform will be required at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for Scouts and Scout leaders. Saturday night we have Pelican Harbor Waterpark available to us. Scouts and Family members are invited to participate. The cost of swimming is included with weekend registration, all other guests even if you are not swimming, it is $4.00 per person CASH to enter the pool area, to be collected at the door. Units need to provide transportation to Pelican Harbor for their Scouts to enjoy the swimming and other attractions. Adequate leadership must be provided both at the pool, and in camp for those Scouts not swimming. Rainbow Council will have their mobile Scout store open for a few hours on Saturday. REGISTRATION: New this year: The registration office located in Village hall will be limited hours. See home page for details Again this year: Each Scout MUST have a list of six merit badges they would like to work on to be able to complete the registration process. Again this year: Adults that register with their units and who are P2E Merit Badge Counselors this year will have their individual registration fee reduced. You will be able to pay your registration fees online. This year you will be able to pay using the secure PayPal process. You can pay using your PayPal account or by major credit card. Since BSA requires 2-deep leadership the registration system has been updated to NOT allow youth to be registered until there are at least two adults registered. Online Registration. Please use our online registration process. DO NOT mail in forms if you register online. ALL Boy Scout and Webelo units and individual registrations MUST be completed BEFORE 8:00am Saturday so the information can be given to the Merit Badge Counselors. So use the online registration or be sure to check in Friday night or Saturday morning between 7:00am and 8:00am. Scouts will NOT be allowed to change the Merit Badges to which they are assigned. Since the leader can place Scouts in Merit Badge sessions the Scouts should be prepared for the Merit Badges that they requested. Unit registration deadline is July 23, Your unit MUST be registered in order to participate. A $5.00 late registration fee for all unit registrations received after the July 1, 2010 deadline. The completed blue cards will be mailed to the person listed as the "contact person" on the unit registration form.
5 Individual registrations deadline is July 1, A $5.00 late registration fee for all individual registrations received after the July 23, 2010 deadline. Note: Completed blue cards will NOT be mailed unless all registration fees are paid, including late fees. BSA policy prohibits smoking in the presence of Scouts, a designated smoking area has been setup for smoking. In addition Village rules do NOT allow smoking within 15 feet of any building entrance. As with all Scouting events, Scouts are not allowed to leave the event grounds. All adults at Pathways to Eagle MUST BE REGISTERED - No Exceptions. PARKING: Additional parking is available in the Pace lot east of Village Hall on Canterbury Lane, across from the Post Office, do NOT park in the Post Office lot. Use the following link to get a Google map of where Bolingbrook Village Hall is located Google map of Bolingbrook Town Center location MERIT BADGES: Pathways to Eagle will supply blue cards, DO NOT give the Scouts blank blue cards to use. Because of changes to Merit Badges requirements much of the Merit Badge session preparation work has been redone this year. Be sure that you and the Scout review the preparation work needed for each merit badge a Scout wants to take and be sure that they know what is expected of them and they'll be ready to answer questions. Scouts are encouraged to make use of the Merit Badge worksheets that are available from the Rainbow Council web site and other locations. By using the worksheets they can have more work done before the session starts and be ready for testing by the Merit Badge counselor. Thank You, The Committee for Pathways to Eagle

7 Pathways to Eagle XXI Uniform Recommendation Guidelines In the past couple of years we have had much press coverage about this event. The committee thought we would make some strong recommendations about uniform protocol. We would like to see the Scouts and Leaders in "Class A" uniform for Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, Lunch and Dinner on Saturday, OR at least a "Class A" Scout Shirt. Anyone not in uniform will be sent back to camp to change. After Breakfast and/or lunch, whomever wants to may change into "Class B" until the next meal. "Class B" being any Scout orientated, Summer Camp, Troop, or Pathways shirt, etc: JUST SO IT DISPLAYS SCOUTING. As usual, any wearing of objectionable clothing will not be tolerated and you will be requested to change it. For safety reasons: NO SKATE BOARDS will be allowed. Skates and bicycles may only be used during your Skating and Cycling Merit Badge sessions No pets will be allowed. Thank You, The Committee for Pathways to Eagle
