The course has limited enrollment and each scout requires the course director's approval. If a Scout is not accepted, the deposit will be returned. The balance of the fee is due one week before the conference begins. Fees are not refundable once acceptance letters have been sent out. Necessary forms and information will be sent directly to the accepted Scouts. It is strongly recommended that the Scout has had previous junior leader training at the troop/crew level. The Scout must be present for the entire course, from 8:00 a.m. Sunday to 12:00 noon Saturday. I nominate the Scout listed above for the 2011 The Furnace National Youth Leadership Training Conference. Boy Scouts must be at least First Class rank, 13 years old, by the start of the course and troop leadership experience. Venture Scouts must be at least 14 years old and have completed the Venture Leadership Skills Course by the start of the course. I have discussed this program with the Scouts and their parents, and verified their interest in it. 6 19TH ANNUAL SCOUTING SKI DAYS FEBRUARY AND FEBRUARY 26-27, 2011! Boston Mills and Brandywine Ski Resorts are conducting the 19th Annual Scouting Ski Days, February and February 26-27, 2011, for ALL Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing and Exploring families in the Great Trail Council. Boston Mills and Brandywine Ski Resorts are offering Scout skiing for $40, Scout snowboarding for $45 and Scout snow tubing for $20. This includes an ALL DAY lift ticket, your ski, snowboard or snow tube rental (if needed) and a beginner s lesson (if needed). To receive this special package deal, you must purchase a special SCOUT IDENTITY TAG for $2 per person from the Council Scout Shop by mail or in person. Anyone associated with Scouting can purchase tickets for this program. Your lift ticket is valid at both Boston Mills and Brandywine, but all merit badge lessons must be taken at Brandywine Ski Resort. If your Scout is going to ski at Boston Mills, they must be accompanied by adult leadership at all times. Present your Scout Identity Tag at Brandywine or Boston Mills to receive the $40 ski/$45 snowboard /$20 snow tube package. **Please Note: The ski/ snowboard/snow tube fees are paid directly to Boston Mills and Brandywine Ski Resort, NOT the Scout Shop. Group lessons are offered each day for beginners only (no lessons for children under 8 years old). Reservations must be made in advance for a group beginner s lesson time by filling out the form below. Scouts interested in pursuing the Snow Sports Merit Badge (downhill only) must contact the Brandywine Snow Sports School for further details at ext There is an additional cost of $15 per person and badge requirements will be scheduled on Saturday and Sunday only. NOTE: No fee adjustments will apply to this special $40 ski/$45 snowboard/$20 snow tube package if you choose to use your own equipment. Please fill out the Ski Days Sign-Up Form (below) completely and return with your Scout Identity Tag money. The special Scout Identity Tags will be available in the Scout Shop starting December 1. Deadline for sign-ups is February 16, The lesson program is limited to 100 lessons per hour on Saturdays, 70 lessons per hour on Sundays, and 50 lessons per hour on Monday. 7 2013 National Scout Jamboree The Summit: Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve Buckeye Council Council Contingent: The Buckeye Council is allocated a contingent of 2 Troops (total of 72 youth ages 12 up to 18; and 8 adult leaders over age 21) Dates: (preliminary to be confirmed) Depart Canton July 12, 2013 July 12to July 14, 2013 Pre Jamboree Program July 15 to July 24, 2013 Jamboree Program at The Summit, WV Return to Canton July 24, 2013 Qualifications for Scouts: Be at least a First Class Scout at time of attendance at Jamboree Have completed sixth grade or be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2013, and have not reached his 18th birthday by July 24, Be approved by his Scoutmaster and the Buckeye Council Jamboree Committee. Registration: Complete the council registration form; complete the National on-line registration when activated; and make $150 deposit Activities: Encampment at the Summit: Activities include archery, bikathlon, buckskin games, confidence course, conservation programs, scuba, kayak fun, racing shell run, and raft encounters. Regional action centers with rappelling towers are truly popular, as are trap shooting, an American Indian village, and the opening and closing arena shows, not to mention daily stage shows and many other activities. It's Scouting at its very best! Pre-camp sight-seeing trip: (Virginia and West Virginia.) Financial Details: The total estimated cost for participants is $1,600. This cost is preliminary and subject to change once the national fee is finalized. The cost includes transportation, meals and lodging en route to and from the jamboree, special patches, patrol and troop equipment, a Jamboree training weekend, and sight-seeing trip. A payment schedule is attached with installments due beginning with registration, and the final payment due March When National Scholarships become available the scholarship form will be posted.
