Welcome Steve to the Rotary Club of Dunwoody and thank Past President Fred Brandt who introduced him to our Club. Come One! Come All! Discover how you can help RunDunwoody 2012 exceed all expectations for success by attending the RunDunwoody Committee 2012 Information Meeting right after our meeting on this Friday, March 30. This meeting is an opportunity to learn and to provide input. We're looking for your ideas, energy, fresh thinking, and creativity. We did well in year one. We doubled our money in year two. The pressure is on for a fabulous year three and we're getting started now to make plans, make changes (where needed), and come up with unique approaches to make RunDunwoodyTHE 5k for runners and thrill seekers in October. If you can't attend the meeting but want to be involved, let Kelly Hundley or Past President Kathy Brandt know! Rotary Club of Dunwoody is 1 of 8 in the World! Each issue of The Rotarian magazine features a World Roundup of news items from around the globe. In the current issue (April 2012), our project with the Rotary Club of Lagos Central, Nigeria was selected as one of the eight projects featured worldwide! The article is on page 15 and was spotted by President Nominee Harvey Rosenzweig. The text of the article is as follows: Last spring, the Rotary clubs of Lagos Central and Dunwoody, Ga., USA, began implementing water and sanitation projects in 12 schools in the states of Lagos and Ogun. While assessing community needs, the Rotarians discovered that sanitation systems would be as vital as clean water, as waterborne diseases were rampant. The US$62,000 effort - supported in part by a Rotary Foundation Global Grant -- has provided renovated toilet facilities as well as training on efficient water use and hygiene. Thanks to Tina Philpot and Director of International Service and Past President Anne Glenn for their work to bring this project to fruition! Rebecca Schnurr: Austin Teacher of the Year At this week's meeting we will honor Austin Elementary School's Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Rebecca Schnurr. She will join us along with Austin Principal Elizabeth Ogletree. Principal Ogletree tells us: Austin Elementary is proud to honor Rebecca Schnurr as our 2012 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Schnurr has taught for about 23 years, all in special ed. She holds an undergraduate degree and Masters in Deaf Education (Converse College and Georgia State University) and has spent most of her career in Dekalb County. She has taught the hearing impaired, severely emotionally disturbed, and Interrelated Special Education classes. She has worked at Austin for the last 12 years. On a personal note - Beckee has lived in Dunwoody for 26 years. She and her husband have two beautiful daughters, both products of Dunwoody schools and gainfully employed, one as a financial analyst and one as an elementary teacher in the Dekalb County School System. Please welcome Beckee Schnurr and Elizabeth Ogletree to our meeting. Help Welcome a Special Family! This week our GRSP student Helen Murphy's family is traveling from Scotland to visit Dunwoody and the United States. Mom and Dad, Anne and Ian, and brother Allistaire arrive Wednesday March 28. During their stay the Murphys will be hosted by the Brandts and the Cuthberts. The Murphys will visit Dunwoody Rotary on Friday, April 6 when Helen makes a presentation about her year in Atlanta. In between visits to other cities in the Southeast, they are interested in meeting Dunwoody Rotarians.
3 Page 3 of 6 We thought it would be nice to offer a chance to meet Rotarians over dinner. If you would like to host Anne, Ian and Allistaire for dinner, they are available on the following 3 nights: April 4 April 12 April 13 Please let Past President Kathy Brandt (kgbrandt1@comcast.net) know if you would like to serve as dinner host for one of these nights. What an excellent opportunity to bring a touch of Scotland into your home, to meet these new members of the Dunwoody Rotary Family and to extend some Dunwoody Rotary hospitality to the Murphy family. Get Ready to Celebrate! The District 6900 Conference will be held from April at the Sandestin Resort in Sandestin, Florida. This will be a fabulous meeting with the theme "Rotary Heroes" and a chance to hear great speakers, spend time with your family and Rotary friends, enjoy wonderful social events, and likely to celebrate the Rotary Club of Dunwoody winning some awards! And with our own Past District Governor Bill Woulfin chairing the conference, we know that it will be fun and first class! To register for the conference, go to Registration by April 1 is $195 and at the Conference the price is $225. See President Laura if you haven't signed up and plan to attend! Besides the Conference programs and events, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody will have a great Hospitality Suite. President Laura is promising a well stocked and lively hospitality suite open pretty much whenever someone wants to hang out. PDG Bill Woulfin has reserved a big corner suite for us with a big balcony looking out over the central grounds. So note your calendar and sign up now for a wonderful few days at the beach! Volunteers Needed for Dunwoody Art Festival by Charlie Augello A Mother's Day tradition in the City of Dunwoody, the crowd-pleasing Dunwoody Art Festival, will celebrate its third dazzling show on May 12 and 13. For more information, visit the Festival's website at As in the past, Dunwoody Rotarian Volunteers will have the opportunity to play a role that is central to the success of this event, which is expected to draw a remarkable crowd of more than 70,000 families, friends, visitors to the streets of Dunwoody. What are the volunteer opportunities? The artists have been effusive in their appreciation of the volunteers who welcome them and help them

RunDunwoody Hires New Race Company During the off-season, the RunDunwoody Committee made a decision to form a relationship with Zulu Racing as the provider of Race Timing and other operational services for RunDunwoody We have finalized arrangements with Mike Buckalew, President/Co-owner as of this week. Mike and his team are well known in Dunwoody, having played a role in the success of the Tartan Trot, a January 5K/10K. Zulu Racing comes highly recommended to us by organizers of the Tartan Trot and by Big Peach Running Company, one of our promotional partners. Not only is Zulu Racing a well-respected race coordinator, but the firm's mission is a great fit with Rotary. Among other things, Zulu Racing's mission includes these statements: >To operate with integrity in all facets of our business. >To provide the best in class for all products, merchandise and service. >To focus on the community and always give back. Learn more about Zulu Racing at Dunwoody High Association Fundraiser The Rotary Club of Dunwoody and Dunwoody High School have had a long and productive relationship ranging from our support of the Interact Club to participation in The Laws of Life and AIDS Awareness programs. (And Past President Dr. Jennie Springer served as Principal of the school). On Saturday, April 14, the Dunwoody High School Community Association Wildcat Fund is holding a fundraiser at Dunwoody Country Club. The DHS Community Association Wildcat Fund is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable fund. Its mission is to improve Dunwoody High School for the students and expand our community, making it the best it can be. The Fund provides equipment and other items that the county cannot provide and that the students richly deserve. The Wildcat Fund has purchased a grand piano for the fine arts auditorium, paid to rubberize the track, and bought picnic tables for the outdoor eating area at the high school, among other projects. The Wildcat Fund invites one and all to a night of fun, dinner, dancing, and live auction at the Wildcat Royale: A Night at the Club -- Saturday April 14, :00 PM at the Dunwoody Country Club

Hayden An important but sometimes overlooked facet of Rotary is the diversity of businesses and professions represented among Rotary membership that every Club strives to attain and maintain. According to Rotary International, "Each club shall have a well-balanced membership in which no one business, profession or type of community service predominates." As do all Rotary clubs, The Rotary Club of Dunwoody classifies each potential member to ensure that his or her addition to the Club will not result in an overbalance of any one business or profession. The challenge, of course, is maintaining a balance of professions while inducting as many qualified candidates who apply for membership as we can. Clearly, this Club has historically done a great job since it is our members who have made the Club what it is today and what it will continue to be in the future. Members are encouraged to periodically review our classifications which are maintained in an Excel spreadsheet on our website in the Member's Only area. The spreadsheet is updated every time we induct a new member. To access the Classification spreadsheet, log in and click on View Club Documents under the heading MyClubrunner. Click on Membership Classification Summary (which is currently the 5th document from the top) to save the spreadsheet. Rotary Club of Dunwoody Information!
