2 FROM THE TOP AF announces changes to Courses 14 and 15 2 Combat Airlifter May 4, 2018 WASHINGTON (AFNS) Effective immediately, Air Force officials have removed the requirement to complete Courses 14 and 15 for all Airmen serving in the active component. Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Airmen will have the option to complete their enlisted professional military education through distance learning or in-residence attendance. Airmen will no longer be required to complete distance learning prior to in-residence attendance at the noncommissioned officer and senior NCO academy. Active component Airmen will complete EPME in-residence, while Guard and Reserve Airmen can complete through DL or in-residence. Ultimately, Airmen are always encouraged to focus on their own self-improvement and life-long learning, said Lt. Gen. Gina Grosso, deputy chief of staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services. However, because our enlisted members have a 100 percent opportunity to attend in-residence NCO and SNCOA, this change provides Airmen greater flexibility and reduces redundancy in professional military education. All active component Airmen currently enrolled in Courses 14 or 15 may continue the course or disenroll. Guard and Reserve Airmen currently enrolled are encouraged to complete the course unless they are currently scheduled to attend in-residence. We want to ensure each level of EPME is meaningful to our Airmen and works to further develop them as professionals, warfighters and leaders, said Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright. As we work to evolve our EPME, we have to remain flexible, ensuring we have content and delivery models that work for everyone. The decision was based on feedback from the 2017 Enlisted Professional Military Education Triennial Review Committee, EPME working groups, and EPME students and instructors. The 2018 National Defense Strategy calls on all services to evolve their PME, emphasizing intellectual leadership and military professionalism in the art and science of warfighting, deepening our knowledge of history while embracing new technology and Effective immediately, Air Force officials have removed the requirement to complete Courses 14 and 15 for all Airmen serving in the active component. Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Airmen will have the option to complete their enlisted professional military education through distance learning or in-residence attendance. techniques to counter competitors. We are working with our teammates at Air Education and Training Command and Air University to enhance our EPME and ensure it meets the intent of our most senior leaders, Wright said. We need to ensure that our EPME can evolve over time as technology changes, so to that end we re working to ensure our content and delivery evolves, too. If Airmen choose to remain enrolled and complete the course, completion will be reflected in their personnel records along with the appropriate Community College of the Air Force credits awarded. Additionally, the enlisted promotion policy remains the same and is not affected by this revision. For more information, visit mypers. 7 Combat Airlifter May 4, 2018 NEWS 7 New program refocuses safety protocol By Airman 1st Class Rhett Isbell 19th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Little Rock Air Force Base is moving to a risk-based assessment and analysis approach to safety and protection issues known as Enterprise Protection Risk Management. In accordance with Department of Defense regulations and , this program integrates mission assurance and protection disciplines for commanders to efficiently calculate threats and costs to those under their care in a more streamlined manner. The program is designed to provide the commanders with an all threats, all hazards picture of what s going on in his Let Our Newspaper Go To Work For You! ADVERTISE In or her installation, said Scott Wobbe, Air Mobility Command director of information protection. When there s a vulnerability on an installation and we come up with a course of action, we re able to more accurately assess it. Assisting wing assessments and commander s abilities to quantify possible protection allows Airmen to help out in their own way. The biggest thing for Airmen is to open their aperture and think about how their job affects those around them and the priorities of their commander, Wobbe said. As we transition from compliance to risk management, we will look at how our decisions affect the mission as a whole. RAIL & SPRUE Hobbies THE HOBBYISTS PLAYGROUND! 8 8 FEATURE Combat Airlifter May 4, 2018 Protecting our people By LInda Benjamin Sexual Assualt Coordinator LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. April is recognized by both military and civilian communities as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. The campaign provides communities an opportunity to continue improving outreach and support to victims as well as expanding prevention efforts in the fight against sexual assault. The Little Rock Air Force Base Sexual Assault Prevention & Response team, in partnership with the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention & Treatment Program and the Drug Demand Reduction Program, held the first Courage, Leadership, Education, Advocacy and Respect challenge April 27. The CLEAR challenge originated at Hurlburt Field, Florida in April 2013 and has expanded to installations across the force. The challenge is a course which tests participants physically and mentally in which every element symbolizes the effects of alcohol or sexual assault. Every team member has a specific purpose in the group. For example, one team member was chosen to wear a weighted vest throughout the course symbolizing the unseen burden a victim of sexual assault carries and how it affects the mission and other team members. Another team member was chosen to wear a pair of drunk goggles throughout the course symbolizing having to look after an impaired wingman and how it affects everyone. Did you know victims of sexual abuse are three times more likely than the average person to suffer from depression and six times more likely to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Some sexual assault victims try to cope with traumatic memories and unwanted anxiety or depression through substance abuse. Some studies report that sexual abuse victims are 13 times more likely to abuse alcohol and 26 times more likely to abuse drugs than those who have not been sexually abused. Our goal with the CLEAR challenge was to strengthen commitments to actively support a climate of dignity and respect, recognize and embrace the values and contributions of all members, and have some fun along the way! The Air Force is a family. Respecting each other, protecting our Wingman, and upholding the Core Values are top priorities in the Air Force and on Little Rock AFB. There are numerous helping agencies and programs on every Air Force installation to provide care and support. Together, we can eliminate sexual assault and substance abuse from our communities. 12 12 NEWS Combat Airlifter May 4, 2018 Thank you for continued support Our combat airlift mission can only be accomplished with all of our Team Little Rock partners, including our Active Duty, Reserve, and Guard Airmen, their families, our civilian Airmen, our community and industry partners, as well as our retirees and their families. Without the support from our team, we would not be able to project and sustain agile combat airlift across the world nor bring to our nation s defense the right effects at the right place at the right time. As we continue to enhance our operational effectiveness and further develop both our combat airlift capabilities and our Airmen through both formal and informal training, inspections and exercises, we are grateful for the continued support and patience from our partners both on base and in the community. Respectfully, 19th Airlift Wing Command Team SAVES SAVES Level 2 Drug Use The SAVES program is very similar to the force protection conditions, said Stephanie Wynn, 19th Airlift Wing community support coordinator.
