A certificate of appreciation will be given to him. Task Group Summaries TG2 Publications API 13L: Recommended Practice for Training and Qualification of Drilling Fluid Technologists Focusing on rig personnel only. Draft under review by major contributors: Baroid, BHDF, MI-Swaco Completion expected by June-July 2015 Specification 13A for Drilling Fluid Materials 18 th Edition Feb A motion was made by David Breeden and Jim Berger Seconded to request a 5 year reaffirmation. Passed unanimously. RP 13D Letter Ballot closes 2/10/15. TG3 OBM Testing Should the TG be renamed as Non Aqueous Fluids(NAF) in place of Oil Based Mud (OBM)? Does this have any extended ramifications because NAF is a wider definition than OBM? There was significant discussion that it was reverted back to the TG3. One solution is to define OBM as all the fluids we are using. USGS has a definition of Non Aqueous Phase Liquid is one that doesn t easily mix with water. One definition includes invert emulsion drilling fluids. TG3:WG1 Chemical Testing in Hibernation RP 13B2 has been recently published. TG3:WG3 OBM PSD Presented data on recent testing. What are API guidelines about publishing test date from the WG/TG work in outside journals prior to publishing a RP by API? See Note above. TG3:WG4 OBM NAF Activity Modifiers Reported on their current testing and plans for future testing. Standardized on chilled mirror dew point equipment. This procedure will be added RP 13B2. Future testing could include e 4 test muds without disclosing composition to the test labs. Ad Hoc Committee chilled mirror Hygrometer procedure chaired by Jose Perez. Should we get involved with recommendations of bio-diesel. NOT an API SC13. TG4 WBM Testing API RP13I Was reviewed. Limited progress was made. Updating approach. WG1 Needs a chairman. Simulated drill solids in place of Rev Dust. WG3 continued with the PSD of LCM. Prepared a test protocol completed at Intertek and also review methods to identify PSD. Methodologies Sieve, Laser and Imaging
2 Frank Bi and John Toups need to propose a charge for a SAG WG for June 2015 TG5 Solids Control Chair needed. Leon Robinson Retired. WG1 Andrea Alba, Chair, Update Section 5 of RP13C. Add calculations and text to show drilling discharge volumes can be minimized via improved solids removal efficiencies. In hibernation. WG2 Mike Morganthaler, Chair, Show from field data that cut point is a function of screen size. WG3 EJ Kubena Discussed Converting API RP13C to an API Standard. This is a 4 phase project funded by API over 4 years , with a total of $145,000. TG6 Heavy Brines WG1 RP-13J 5 th Edition recently published in October 2014 WG3 Needs chair and members to review data and define path forward. WG7 Displacements Completed Round Robin 1 and planning a subsequent round of testing. Staying in touch with a WG in SC10 which is doing similar testing. WG9 Scale: In hibernation since summer Don Lindblad volunteered to chair. Add an appendix for RP-13J to discuss scale WG10 CRA JIP Testing contaminated brines in Corrosion Resistant Alloys. Organize existing data and report tests to date. Decision is to end with current testing or expand the focus. WG11 Emulsion Technology: Compare individual lab s testing procedures within the group first round of testing is in progress. TG7 Rheology and Hydraulics RP13D letter ballot closes 2/10/15 TG8 Standard Materials Bud Schlemmer took over for Tim Wilkin WG1 Standard Reference Materials: SEBC is low at Fann and OFITE. New supplies are being prepared and will be sent to the suppliers. Updating the SDS, COA and shelf life. Buzz Pike will review the application of GHS requirements for SDS and labels to our standard reference materials. What are the ramifications of having the API logo and or monogram on the SDS and label? And the need to update product in inventory. Why do we have API Reference Bentonite and API Calibration Bentonite if they are the same material? Jim Berger said at one point in history the supply of Reference Bentonite was exhausted. The calibration bentonite was in great supply so it was used for reference bentonite. Carl Stouffer will discuss with Buzz Pike, Jim Berger and Larry Mitchell. Change all references to Reference Bentonite to Calibration Bentonite. Steve Mason will check with SLB librarian. Katie Burkle will check 13A and 13I WG5 Drilling Grade Starch: How can we increase the accuracy of the temperature control of the roller oven? 3 options were presented. The application to all of the heat aging testing in API.
3 WG6 Density Measurements Propose changes that identifies helium pycnometer procedure as the alternate measurement device for density measurement. Include nitrogen as a test gas. TG9 Completion, Stimulation & Fracturing Fluids Friction measurements of Newtonian fluids Regain Perm Measurements Friction measurements of non-newtonian fluids API 13M (ISO ) - Measurement of Viscous Properties of Completion Fluids: Published 7/2004, Reaffirmed 10/2010, Workgroup to be formed in March to review document for needed revisions. Group to report back at June 2015 meeting with status and whether a 2-year extension is needed or document will be reaffirmed for another 5 years. RP 19D Recommended Practice for Measuring the Long-Term Conductivity of Proppants 1 st Edition March 2008 (2 YR Ext June 2013). Ron Powell moved and Bernard Fabroulet 2nded Unanimous vote for a reaffirmation of RP 19D The Agenda with room numbers further an advance would be appreciated by the attendees. At least 1 week before or longer to facilitate making travel plans. Action Items and Meeting Votes: June 2014 Minutes will be distributed via for approval. No response will be considered an approval. If you were not called as a voting member please contact Brent after the meeting to request voting membership. We discussed the SC13 social to see if an administrative sponsor will function as OFI Testing Equipment has done for many years which is repaying the specific sponsoring company and billing all the cosponsors OR return to the format prior to that model where the sponsoring company paid all of the costs and billed co-sponsors individually. Concerning publishing TG/WG test data API requirements are: You can discuss results, but you can t publish the procedures or copyrighted material.
