2 Purpose of this meeting The purpose of this presentation is to inform you of the: scope of effort, benefits to be achieved by supporting the effort, process used to develop the standard, and global industry professionals whom developed the practice. This presentation is also to: ask for your involvement in developing and validating the contents of the RP, solicit industry experience and incorporate feedback from non-participating industry experts, and update you on the work team's progress L Street, NW Washington, DC

3 API-16A Problem statement Under API-16A Third Edition, June 2004 the remanufacturing process of drill through equipment is described in Annex B. Observations: 1. Not all remanufactured equipment does necessary meet the all requirements of the standard. 2. The current requirements as listed in the API-16A standard and the link to other referenced standards and associated conditions that must be met is not easy to follow. 3. Different interpretations are used by various manufacturers and remanufacturers as result of the above. 4. Inspection companies and Class Society do always detect non-conformances to the requirements in the code. 5. Owners of the equipment do not always specify the requirements / standards that must be met for remanufacturing in the purchase order. 6. Owners of the equipment often limit or omit third party inspection scope. 7. Users of the equipment do not often check compliance to remanufacturing standards. 8. Working to comply with the code is confused with intension to meet the requirements of the code. 9. The Public, Insurance companies and Governments expect Industry compliance and control. 10. Certificates of Compliance issued after remanufacturing vary greatly in quality L Street, NW Washington, DC

4 API-16AR Vision The remanufacturing requirements as listed in API-16A Third Edition, June 2004 in principle offers sufficient control on equipment quality and performance. The vision is: 1. To maximize the use of existing requirements as listed in API-16A Third Edition, June To provide the Industry with a clear process flow for remanufacturing. 3. To provide the Industry with a better overview between the various relevant standards that must be met in the process. 4. To provide the Industry with minimum requirements for Certification in order to establish traceability. 5. To provide the framework for remanufacturing that will support the conditions under which the API Monogram can be maintained during equipment life. 6. To maximize the understanding of the remanufacturing process requirements in an easy format that will improve implementation, capacity and quality. 7. To create industry uniformity. 8. 5 API-16AR Work Scope Closing the Gap Provide the flow diagram for the generic remanufacturing process. Provide the flow diagram for API monogrammed equipment. Provide the flow diagram for remanufactured API monogrammed equipment. Provide the flow diagram for third party inspection. Provide the flow diagram for referenced standards in the remanufacturing process (welding, NDE including reference to acceptance criteria, etc). Provide example for minimum certification requirements to support traceability. Provide remanufacturing examples for various pieces of API-16SC equipment. Input required on the following AR sections Supporting text in the standard for the process flow diagrams. 6 Why do this now Improves the industry s capability to compliance to the API-16SC standards and its requirements. Improves the industry s understanding on the relevant processes in the remanufacturing process of API-16 SC equipment. Improves the industry s remanufacturing capacity and quality. Provide the framework and conditions under which to maintain the API Monogram through equipment life and remanufacturing. Other API standards in the 16SC group are currently in the update process.
