BRANCH 46 NEWS Wow, it is hard to believe we are already in February We only have this extension of the land until March of 2018! There is unfortunately only a small core of people that have done either. We need people on the Board of Directors, Lounge Committee, Land Acquisition also. It is only a couple hours a month. We have vacant positions. We are fortunate to have a lounge, but that is just a bonus for us. I have instructed our Building Manager to post up signs to ask for help. We will be posting a clipboard behind the bar to have you print your name and with phone number. If you truly want us to keep our home, please come step up and help. Many of you are members that have never come to a General Assembly Meeting. This is where you can voice any questions or find out the details of where we stand on fundraising and other information. We have U.S. Flags flown at the USS Arizona Memorial on 4 July and 9/11. As a member, you are entitled to a discount! Gov and Mrs. Ige (left) and NPs Virgil and Helen Courneya (right) pose around the FRA floral wreath The FRA National President, Virgil Courneya, and the LAFRA National President, Helen Courneya, visited Branch and Unit 46 during December, In addition to attending the ceremonies on Remember Pearl Harbor Day aboard the USS Arizona Memorial where we met with Governor Ige, the NPs also attended the Branch and Unit s General Assembly Meeting. FRA NP Courneya addressed the Shipmates and passed out awards. LAFRA NP Courneya also addressed the Unit and the Shipmates about her charity, Warriors to Soulmates. Altogether, the Branch and Unit 46 donated over $550! For welcoming gifts, the Branch and Unit gave each NP an exclusive boxed set of five limited 2015 USS Arizona Memorial medallions. This may have been the first time in Branch 46 history that the National Presidents Virgil and Helen Courneya, the Regional Presidents Northwest Julian and Lauren Wynn, and the Branch and Unit 46 Presidents Glenn and Renee Shaw, were ALL husband and wife teams and ALL together during the meeting! 3 LA FRA - UNIT 46 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Greetings from Unit #46!!! I hope that this newsletter finds all of you well. The Unit held their birthday luncheon for those with birthdays in November, December and January on January 29, 2016 at Ruby Tuesday. It was a great time. The next luncheon for those with birthdays in February and March is scheduled for March 25, 2016 and will be held at the FRA Branch home at Noon. We hope that everyone can join us!!! The Unit will be sponsoring the breakfast buffet on February 27, 2016 in the Lounge. The cost is $10 per person. Please come and enjoy a buffet breakfast prepared by your Unit members. At the March and April General Assembly Meetings we will be taking nominations for Officers and Directors for the term. Please plan to attend. Also, elections will be held at the April General Assembly Meeting. You cannot vote by proxy and must be present at the meeting for your vote to count. The General Assembly Meetings are held at 1900 with dinner at 1800 for a cost of $10 per person. Finally, please remember to recruit, recruit, recruit!!!! 4 From the Chaplain s Pen Reverend Ollie Tucker Most of us have been around long enough to witness a ton of changes to our American culture. Some have been good and some have been bad, depending on the eyes of the beholder. This being an election year, we have some tough decisions to make in choosing the next leader of our great country. As we all know, politicians will tell you almost anything to get elected. Some of you may have already made up their minds to who our next leader will or should be. Some of you have not, and for some, the jury is still out. We all have labels now. We all have been tagged as liberals or conservatives. Often religion, or some type of belief system is supposed to define which you are. I say that is bunk. I have never liked those divisive names You are who you are and believe what you believe. The bible says that all of our leaders are appointed by God, and we must obey them. That's a hard pill to swallow in many cases. Many pastors of churches struggle to keep their personal political views out of the pulpit. If they choose to do so, not only can the church lose its tax exemptions but divide the church. A pastor must and foremost, preach the word of God, teach, instruct and encourage his members. Politics, best be left outside when entering the house of God. The more goods and services we have donated, the more we profit from the event and the closer we get to our goal of purchasing our land from the Navy.
