1 WISCONSIN LABORERS APPRENTICESHIP & TRAINING FUND SCHEDULE HOW TO APPLY: Classes are open to construction laborers who are employed by contractors contributing to the Training Fund and are in good standing. Application forms are available at your local union hall, from the Training Center, and enclosed in this publication. Complete the application form and mail or fax it to the Training Center. To register online go to: Enter your last name and member ID number (this would be your membership card #) Click on Sign In Next go to the left of your screen under member services and click Apprenticeship & Training Click Courses This will bring you to the list of courses that we are offering and the dates we are offering them. Under the course title you will find a drop down box with the course dates, you can click on the course date of your choice. Then click Register for Course, here you will enter your contact information. After entering this information click the box that says Register for Course. You will be notified by mail or if you have been accepted for that course(s). You may sign up for as many courses as you wish. LODGING: For multiple day courses, the option of staying at the hotel that we provide is available to Laborers who live 50+ miles away. (2 Laborers assigned to each room). TRANSPORTATION: Laborers who are staying at the hotel will be reimbursed mileage from their home to the Training Center and back. The Commuters will be paid $20.00 per day. You will receive a check upon completion of the class. MEALS: We will not provide meals at the Training Center. Bring your own lunch for the noon meal. A large cooler, microwaves, snack and soda machines, paper plates, napkins, silverware, and coffee are provided. UNION CARDS AND WORK CLOTHES: Students at the Training Center must be in good standing with their local, bring your current union card to class. Students are required to wear pants, shirts, and work boots. The Training Center will provide hard hats and safety equipment. REPORTING WITH INJURIES TO THE TRAINING CENTER: Classes at the Training Center are primarily hands-on, involving the physical work of a construction laborer. The Training Center does not have the resources to tailor classes to each individual who may have a temporary injury. 1. When a class involves physical work participants may not enroll in the class if they are currently unable to work as a construction laborer because of an injury, whether work-related or non-work related. 2. When a class does not involve physical labor but rather classroom lectures and written materials, participants who are unable to work because of an injury, whether work-related or non-work-related, may enroll in the class. Journeyman Laborers ARE available for work when attending classes. If you are called back to work while attending classes you will stop training and return to work.

3 Environmental Asbestos Abatement Supervisor 40 Hours Characteristics, health effects, personal protective equipment, work practices, personal hygiene, safety hazards, medical/air monitoring, regulations, respiratory protection, legal liability, insurance, contract specs., supervisory techniques, recordkeeping, and state of the art equipment. Must bring in state ID. Hazardous Waste Worker 40 Hours 1 Week Health & Safety information, hazard recognition, engineering controls, personal protective equipment. Site safety plans, decontamination procedures, safe use of field equipment, sampling techniques, rights and responsibilities of worker, emergency procedures, medical surveillance, confined space, underground storage tanks, EPA regulations, principles of toxicology. Class starts at 8:00 a.m. the 1 st day of class. For this class you must be clean shaved for respirator user seal check. Your Instructor will inform you of what day you will need to be clean shaved by, it will not be the first day of class. Asbestos Worker Refresher 1 Day In order to keep your card current you must take a refresher every year. Asbestos Supervisor Refresher 1 Day In order to keep your card current you must take a refresher every year. Hazardous Waste Worker Refresher 1 Day In order to keep your card current you must take a refresher every year. If you do not attend a refresher on or before your renewal date your card is no longer good and you will need to take the course over in order to obtain a card.
4 Course Descriptions Basic Transit & Level 2 Weeks Transit, builders level, grade rod, range poles, set up and operation, applications field exercise, elevations and stakes, construction mathematics. Blueprint Reading 2 Weeks *Prerequisite: Basic Transit & Level A two week course on skills needed to read blueprints in the areas of pipe, building site, and road work. The students will also learn to figure quantities and layout. Foreman Preparedness 1 Week Health and safety recognition, communications, construction mathematics, general project skills, job instruction, dealing with people, problem solving, emergency response, hazard communication, substance abuse. Basic Pipelaying 3 Weeks *Prerequisite: Basic Transit & Level OSHA job safety, protective equipment, hand signals, compaction, soils, air tools, pipelaying, concrete, ductile iron, shoring, tight sheeting, sewer blueprints, pipe patching and repairing, trench shields, gravity flow pipe, tapping water main, copper flaring and field problems. Basic Concrete Construction 1 Week Basic construction mathematics, measuring, leveling, squaring methods, form systems, placement, vibration, stripping, cleaning, site safety, hand/power tools, field project to include: placing concrete, tool and equipment maintenance. Decorative Concrete Finishing 1 Week *Prerequisite: Concrete Construction Decorating concrete with stamps, stencils, and acid staining. Journeymen only. Mini Crane Safety & Maintenance 1 Day Safety use and maintenance of a robbotic mini crane. ICRA - 3 Days Infection Control Rick Assessment. Recommendations and work practices for hospital construction. Rough Terrain Forklift Safety and Operation 2 Days You must take a refresher every three years in order to stay current. Forklift safety, operation and maintenance. Skid steer loader safety operation & maintenance, material handling. General Construction 1 Week Introduction to the construction industry with regards to safety and proper techniques. Tool recognition and useage. Mason Tending 1 Week Job setup, tools, equipment, materials, estimating, hand stocking, scaffold building, mortar mixes. Traffic Control and Flagging 1 Day Controlling traffic through work areas is one of the most important and dangerous operations in construction projects. This Flagger Training Course is a comprehensive skill-building session that meets federal industry guidelines, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines. Must refresh every 5 years. CPR, AED & First Aid 1 Day OSHA 30 1 Week The 30-hour Construction Outreach Training Program is intended to provide a variety of training to workers with safety responsibility. Workers must receive additional training on hazards specific to their job. Training will emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, of OSHA standards. Instructional time must be a minimum of 30 hours. OSHA subpart references are provided for informational purposes; training will emphasize hazard awareness. Small Gas Engine 3 Days Hands on training, demonstrations, gas/oil ratios, engine maintenance and repair. Welding/Cutting 2 Weeks Personal safety, protective equipment, grinding, AC-DC welding, cutting torches, oxygen/acetylene, flamex fuel, brazing, arc weld-horizontal/vertical, flat, pipe. Scaffold Builder 1 Week Course complies with OSHA regulations Curriculum includes the OSHA standards, fall protection, stairways and ladders, electrical hazards and loading of scaffold. Hands-on training on the scaffold systems include frame & brace, tube & clamp; tower scaffolds and rolling tower. Hoisting/Rigging and Hand Signals 4 Days You must take a refresher every three years in order to stay current. A course designed for people with little or no experience with rigging and hand signals for cranes. Hoisting/Rigging and Hand Signals Refresher 1 Day You must take a refresher every three years in order to stay current. A course designed for people with 3-5 years of experience with rigging and hand signals for cranes. You will not need to take the initial course first prior to taking this course. Advanced Pipelaying 1 Week *Prerequisite: Must take Basic Pipelaying or have 3 years of experience (you will need to speak to one of our Pipelaying Instructors first before being accepted to this course if going by experience) Construction math, air testing, hydrostatic testing, soil classification and testing, and problem solving. MSHA Refresher 1 Day You must take a refresher every 12 months. Forklift Operation Refresher 1 Day You must take a refresher every 3 years in order to stay current.

You must be a member in good standing in order to attend courses. When a class does not involve physical labor but rather classroom lectures and written materials, participants who are unable to work do to an injury, whether work-related or non-work-related, may enroll in the class. Mileage checks for members taking classes will not be given to them until they completely finish the class, unless of emergency situation or a contractor calls them to work.
