3 Emergency First Aid At Work To provide delegates with knowledge of basic life saving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations. Nominated emergency first aiders, or anyone wanting a comprehensive one day first aid training course. Especially those working within smaller businesses or remote locations. 4 Pipe and Cable Location The aim of this course is to cover the basic principles involved in underground locating including an overview of the types of problems encountered and how to solve them. All fence installers and site supervisors need to be able to locate underground services. The basic principles of electronic pipe location The operation and use of inductive and conductive pipe locators Interpretation of plans and records An understanding of the operation and use of nonmetallic pipe locators Basic maintenance of equipment Safe working conditions and requirements relating to handling of tools and equipment Correct mapping of the area to be covered, saving both time and money ½ day / maximum of 12 candidates or 24 candidates in full day Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance. 5 Abrasive Wheels To give delegates an understanding of current legislation and be able to demonstrate the safe fitting and use of abrasive wheels in compliance with manufacturer's instructions. Users of angle grinders (fitted with cutting or grinding wheels), cutoff saws or bench top cut-off saws. 6 Asbestos Safety To instruct and train employees in accordance with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations and the Approved Code of Practice. Operatives, supervisors and management working with asbestos. Courses include practical and theory sessions to provide the knowledge essential to managing asbestos safely. 7 Manual Handling To provide the underlying knowledge required to minimise risks associated with manual handling whilst practical exercises provide the opportunity to apply the principles of safer handling. Anyone who may need to carry out any type of manual handling activity at work. Manual handling hazards, risks and controls How manual handling operations can cause injury and harm The scope of legal requirements and where guidance can be found The process for assessing manual handling risks The value of risk assessment and how it applies to safe manual handling practice Lifting loads from low levels, working at low levels Lowering from height Pushing loads, pulling loads Carrying, team handling ½ day / maximum of 12 candidates or 24 candidates in full day Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a HSS Certificate of Attendance. 8 Safe Lifting & Slinging All courses begin with the Safe Slinging & Lifting Appreciation half day Training Course. This provides delegates with a solid foundation and the understanding of safe lifting procedures. This is then enhanced by a half day practical enhancement module of your choice. (e.g. Practical Slinging Beneath the Hook). A detailed module sheet with the syllabus is available on request. These modular courses are designed to provide the knowledge and skills to anyone requiring an understanding of the theory and rating of lifting equipment along with an understanding of their correct use. 9 PASMA Working At Height Essentials To enable an individual to effectively comply with their duties under the Work at Height Regulations. Anyone who needs a thorough and well structured introduction to the key safety issues and legal implications of working at height. 10 PASMA Mobile Access Tower Standard To gain an understanding of current relevant legislation and be able to dismantle, erect and inspect mobile access towers safely, as per the manufacturer's instructions. Anyone who has a need to dismantle, erect and inspect mobile access tower safely. Introduction to mobile access towers Regulations and standards Components and hazards Tower assembly Stability and safe-use of towers Repositioning towers Tower inspection Care and maintenance Tower dismantling 1 day / maximum of 10 candidates Delegates successfully completing the course successfully will receive PASMA and ID Card (valid for 5 years). 11 The Ladder Association - Ladder Access Safety To learn how to assess and determine the appropriate use of ladders and steps, select appropriate work at height equipment for a task, correctly locate and safely use ladders and steps as well as inspecting ladders and steps for damage. Users, supervisors and managers wanting to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to use steps and ladders legally and safely. Legislation and regulations affecting work at height Select the most appropriate work at height equipment Identify hazards Assess and determine when it is appropriate to use ladders or steps Correctly locate and safely use ladders and steps Inspect ladders and steps for damage Product standards and classifications 1 day / maximum of 12 candidates Delegates successfully completing the course will be awarded a Ladder Association Ladder User's ID Card and Certificate of Training (valid for 5 years). 12 IPAF MEWPs for Operators To provide delegates with the essential knowledge and skills required for safe and efficient operation of MEWPs. Those who use, supervise or manage the use of powered access scissor lifts, self-propelled boom lifts, trailer mounted boom lifts and aerial work platforms. Those who need to use only one piece of MEWP should take the Single category course and those who need to use two pieces of MEWP should take the Dual category course. Introduction and pre-course theory test MEWP categories Structural parts Regulations - ISO 18878, European, HASAWA, PUWER, LOLER, MHSW, WAHR, RIDDOR. Pre-use inspection/handovers Safe operating methods and hazards Theory test Practical training Practical assessment 1 day / maximum of 6 candidates for one category or 4 for both Delegates successfully completing the course will receive an IPAF Certificate and PAL (Powered Access Licence) Card valid for 5 years. 13 CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) To ensure those with site supervisory responsibilities understand why they are carrying out their identified duties, what is expected of them and that they contribute to the safety of the workplace. First line managers - those who have, or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities who require an understanding of legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. The course provides a sound knowledge base enabling them to give valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site. 14 CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) To give an understanding of a delegate's responsibilities and accountability for site safety, health and welfare, current health and safety legislation. This industry-recognised course is ideal for companies who need to meet the ever-increasing demand for evidence of sound health and safety management on site. The course fee includes the construction skills publication Construction Site Safety Health, Safety and Environmental Information Manual (GE700) as well as other course materials. Project managers, site managers and supervisors as well as proprietors of small to medium sized companies. Possession of this qualification is listed in the Approved Code of Practice for the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations as a demonstration of competence in the role of site manager. 15 Personal Track Safety (PTS) To give delegates the mandatory qualification, knowledge and understanding to work safely on or near the railway. People who need to work on the controlled railway infrastructure. Attendance Requirements Delegates must be sponsored by a Link-up approved organisation with a NCCA Site I.D and have a valid Network Rail approved medical certificate and negative alcohol and drugs screening certificate. If a person changes sponsor, a new alcohol and drugs certificate will be required, unless there is evidence of a negative screening in the 12 months prior to changing sponsor. In addition, delegates need to provide PPE including; high visibility trousers and top, safety boots and a hard hat (blue for initial training). 17 Terms & Conditions Reservation Provisional booking may be made by telephone, but must be confirmed in writing (letter or ) within 5 working days. Fees All fees are payable 2 weeks in advance and no admission to the course will be permitted until payment is received. All fees quoted are correct at the time of publication but FaCT reserves the right to alter fees at any time. All fees quoted are exclusive of VAT which must be paid in addition to the quoted fee, at invoice date, chargeable at the standard rate then in force. Joining instructions Joining Instructions will be forwarded following receipt of payment. If joining instructions have not been received 5 days before the course, please telephone to make sure payment has been received. Venues A map of how to get to the venue will be included in the joining instructions. Whilst FaCT will provide information about accommodation at local hotels, FaCT is not acting in the capacity of agent for either the hotel or the client. Queries, cancellations and alterations of hotel bookings must be made direct with the hotel/agent concerned and delegates must settle their own hotel accounts before leaving. Refreshments Tea and coffee is provided throughout the day free of charge. Lunch is available on site upon request. Course Literature Printed course notes are included in the course fees. Course literature is copyright and may not be reproduced without permission. Cancellations FaCT reserves the right to cancel or alter the dates or provision of service, the venue and the individual or organisation providing the service. In event of cancellation, booking will normally be transferred to the next available course unless the client specifically requests otherwise. If a booking is cancelled or transferred to a different course by the client the following fees will be payable. Cancel course: 21+ working days before a course = 20% of the course fee working days before a course = 100% of the course fee. Transferring a course: The following charges will apply if you wish to transfer your booking to a later Course date: 21+ working days before a course = 0% of the course fee 5-20 working days before a course = 50% of the course fee 1-4 working days before a course = 100% of the course fee The transfer option only relates to delegates who are transferring to a different date on the same course. The choice of course date must be specified at the time of transfer (else the instruction will be considered a cancellation). The option to transfer delegates can only be used once, after which any movement will be considered a cancellation. All outstanding invoices will remain due, irrespective of the number of working days notice given for the cancellation. Substitute delegates: You can transfer a place on a course to a substitute delegate free of charge.
