Rojek received his initial army officer training in the ROTC program at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He graduated from American University with a Bachelor s degree I n Political Science and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army in the Artillery, later transitioning to the Military Intelligence Corp. From 1991 until 2002 he served on Active Duty with the US Army. He had various assignments in the United States and the Republic of Korea. From September 2001 to January 2002 he was deployed to Afghanistan as a member of 3/75th Ranger Battalion. In 2002 he went to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He has served at various locations in the United States, to include assignments at the Norfolk Field Office, where he worked primarily Counterintelligence and Cyber matters, at FBI Headquarters, Washington, DC where he served as a Counterintelligence supervisor embedded in Cyber Division working National Security computer intrusion investigations. He currently serves as the Cyber Supervisor at the FBI Office in Cincinnati, OH, a position he has held since July He is married to the former Stefani Baumann of East Brunswick, NJ. They have three (3) children. His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Air Assault badge, the Airborne badge, and the Ranger Tab. The fees for any initial Ohio educator license, permit or certificate - or for a renewal - will be waived for candidates who are veterans with honorable discharges or current service member of all branches of the United States Armed Forces; the National Guard or Reserve; and the Ohio Military Reserve or Ohio Naval Militia (under the Ohio Adjutant General). Spouses of active duty service members also may receive a license free of charge. For more information go to Click on Forms and then click on the link Educator License Fees. $2 Million Invested in Suicide Prevention As part of the Kasich Administration s continued effort to help Ohioans with mental illness, state officials unveiled a comprehensive suicide prevention initiative. Supported by a $2 million investment included in the Governor s SFY biennial budget, Ohio s initiative focuses on a shared goal of reducing suicides through: workforce development; expanded resources for survivors of loss; a collaborative approach to crisis hotlines and text support; research; awareness and stigma reduction. Suicide remains a major public health issue across the nation. Each year, Ohio loses between 1,200 and 1,500 of our citizens due to death by suicide, said Tracy Plouck, director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS). The steps we are taking today strengthen and enhance Ohio s efforts on all fronts to reduce the number of deaths by suicide. Read more about this initiative at pressreleases/suicideprev4web.pdf. Veterans Crisis Line Remember the national Veterans Crisis Line TALK (press 1) and website veteranscrisisline.net provide 24/7 access for those in need of immediate support. 3

4 SURVIVING SPOUSE CORNER Protect yourself From Fraud By Anne Hartline, Surviving Spouse Advisory Committee Many dishonest people work diligently every day to gather information illegally to steal identities and money. To help protect yourself from fraud, be aware: Do not open suspicious s, carefully read s from agencies and businesses that appear to be legitimate, and cautiously answer telephone calls from unknown individuals. In addition, do not deposit checks that come in the mail from unfamiliar sources. USAA, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and banks are three of the most commonly targeted sources for scams. Some clever thieves now can show USAA, IRS, and the names of banks on the telephone caller ID and send s that look authentic. In 2014, USAA shut down 6,724 fraudulent websites. According to the Federal Trade Commission, from 2013 to 2014, IRS scams increased by 20 percent, with more than 54,000 Americans being targeted in In addition, almost daily, media reports scams involving banks and bogus checks. USAA advises that legitimate communications from their company always will have a USAA Security Zone stamp. Look for your name and the last four digits of your member number. Like all security cautions from any source that might be compromised, USAA directs that you should not reply to any with personal information, such as passwords, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or bank account numbers. If you receive suspicious communications from USAA, contact them at (877) or forward suspicious communications to abuse@usaa.com. Fraudulent IRS agents can be quite intimidating. They call state back taxes are owed and say the only way to avoid jail is topay back taxes and fines immediately. Then they offer various methods of transferring the money. Sometimes the con artists take a positive approach, telling people they have a refund due and then asking for personal information. If you receive a suspicious IRS call, assume it is a scam. The IRS does not call people about back taxes or refunds; you will receive notice via a mailed letter. The IRS also does not solicit information by , text, or social media. If you are contacted by phone, report the incident to the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at (800) If you are contacted by , forward the message directly to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov. Wells Fargo has excellent information on their website regarding bank fraud and scams, including tips on how to protect yourself, such as: It is sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do your homework before cashing checks received in the mail from unknown sources. Call the bank, and independently research an individual, company, or check to verify legitimacy. If you receive an asking for money, forward it to your local police department. Shred documents containing personal or financial information before discarding. Many fraud and identity theft incidents happen as a result of mail and garbage theft. Promptly retrieve incoming mail, and place outgoing mail with financial information in a U.S. Postal Service mailbox, instead of your home mailbox. Consider paperless options for your bills and financial information. Remember, be alert and question any suspicious communication to help protect yourself from fraud and scams. Summer Time is Disaster Prep Time Summer Rays and cool breezes can quickly turn into unexpected lightning and blinding rains. TRICARE makes it easy to get the care you need in the event of a natural disaster. In emergencies, the Department of Defense (DOD) can approve a waiver or primary care manager (PCM) referrals. Waiving the PCM referral requirement allows affect beneficiaries to get care from TRICARE-authorized providers without a PCM referral, avoiding point-of-service charges. The Emergency Refill Too Soon waiver authorized early prescription refills for affected beneficiaries. When a prescription waiver is authorized for an impacted area, information about early refills is posted on the TRICARE website. Beneficiaries who ve signed up for TRICARE Updates via or SMS text-messaging received the update directly. Also check TRICARE social media pages for updates. Severe weather can happen at any time, during any season. Disaster preparation is important and being prepared is just as essential as knowing how to get help. Everyone should have an emergency Go To kit, and copies of important documents like your Uniformed Services ID card or other health insurance card, driver s license, Social Security card and list of prescriptions and shot records. Have the numbers to family doctors and the regional contractor close at hand for help getting care. Make a disaster plan and practice it. TRICARE has a downloadable contact wallet card with all the contacts you need for help with your health plan. Visit the TRICARE website for details on how to stay safe and get the care you need in a disaster. 4

This is an event where officers and spouses attend rather than a Dining In where only members of the Mess attend. There will be traditional toasts and a president of the Mess. The cost will be $36.00 per person.. There will be a cash bar available. Included in the dinner: a glass of port for toasting, garden salad, glass of wine, prime rib of beef, garden beans and roasted potatoes. Attire will be military Class A or civilian business attire. Reservation forms will be in the September newsletter. Please give serious consideration to attending what will be a fine event honoring our military traditions Tri-State Woman Veteran Achievement Award Chapter member and Past President CWO3, Kym Mader, USN, Ret. was this years recipient of the Tri-State Woman Veteran Achievement Award which recognizes a woman Veteran who has displayed exemplary service and leadership while either serving n the military, as a Veteran, or in her community. This award is part of the CERV Foundation s ongoing effort to lead and engage the Tri-State communities to serve Veterans, where they live and work.
