Plan for Marine Aviation Centennial Celebration Honoring 100 Years of Marine Aviation History Marine Aviation was officially born on May 22, 1912, when First Lieutenant Alfred A. Cunningham, USMC, reported to Annapolis, MD for duty in connection with aviation. On August 20, 1912, LT Cunningham made his first solo flight in Marablehead, MA. Ever since that day, Marine Aviation has been involved with six major wars and many armed conflicts. In preparation for Marine Aviation s 100th Birthday on May 22, 2012, Marines from the MCAA McCutcheon Squadron, New River, Jacksonville, NC. have planned four events in celebration of the Marine Aviation Centennial. These four events are the Marine Aviation Centennial Bell Casting Ceremony and Warrior Night Cincinnati, Marine Aviation Centennial Celebration, Marine Aviation Memorial Tower Ground Breaking Ceremony and the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower Installation Ceremony honoring all those that have served in Marine Aviation for the past 100 years.

Marine Aviation Centennial Bell Casting Ceremony and Warrior Night Cincinnati Thursday, April 26, 2012 On Thursday, April 26, 2012 in Cincinnati, OH, the Verdin Company will bring their 18-wheel Bell Foundry on Wheels to help manufacture the Marine Aviation Centennial Bell. They will light a furnace to 2200, pour molten bronze into a mold and cast the Centennial Bell. The ceremony will end with a Warrior Night Memorial Dinner honoring all those that have served in Marine Aviation for the past 100 years. Marine Aviation Centennial Bell Unveiling Friday, April 27, 2012 On Friday, April 27, 2012, Marines from MCAA McCutcheon Squadron, veterans of many generations and private donors will help unveil the Marine Aviation Centennial Bell. With a Ceremonial Sledgehammer, they will strike the cast to unveil the Bell. The Verdin Company will prepare the Bell for its official dedication ceremony at the Marine Aviation Centennial Warrior Night, Orange Beach, AL on May 12, 2012.

Marine Aviation Centennial Celebration in Orange Beach, AL. Thursday, May 10 - Sunday, May 13, 2012 The McCutcheon Squadron has coordinated with Brett/Robinson to provide you their newest Phoenix West facility and other Phoenix properties in Orange Beach, Alabama. Brett/ Robinson will provide event supporters with everything you need to have a memorable time on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Whether you choose golfing, deep sea fishing, or spending time with friends or family, all activities are within minutes of Brett/Robinson s Phoenix Condominiums. Beyond the 4-day / 3-night package, there s so much to do in Orange Beach! The MCAA McCutcheon Squadron will host a Warrior Night Memorial Dinner at the Orange Beach Event Center at The Wharf, AL on May 12, The McCutcheon Squadron will celebrate the esprit-de-corps of Marine Aviation and honor the generations of Marines that have served in Marine Aviation for the past 100 years. Organized as a traditional Marine Corps Mess Night, the evening will entail a dinner, beverages, cigars, Pusser s Rum toast, drinking from the grog and a personal signed copy of America s Marine Aviators DVD by Producer, Jeff Bolton. The evening will conclude with the dedication of the Marine Aviation Centennial Bell.

Marine Aviation Memorial Tower Ground Breaking Ceremony Tuesday, May 22, 2012 On Marine Aviation s 100th Birthday, May 22, 2012, the MCAA McCutcheon Squadron and the Pensacola Veterans Memorial Park Foundation will break ground for the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower at the Veterans Memorial Park, Pensacola, Florida. This location for the Memorial Tower was selected because of the City of Pensacola s long lasting support of the military and its world-renowned title of being the Cradle of Naval and Marine Corps Aviation. Marine Aviation Memorial Tower Dedication Monday, August 20, 2012 The Verdin Company, in coordination with the Patriot Guard of Ohio and Florida, will escort the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower cross country from Cincinnati, OH to Pensacola, FL. On August 20, 2012, LT A. A. Cunningham s 100th Anniversary for his first solo flight, the MCAA McCutcheon Squadron will finalize the Marine Aviation Centennial plan with the official dedication of the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower. Many VIPs that were involved with raising funds for the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower will speak, the Marine Aviation Centennial Bell will be raised onto the tower where the Bell will be rung for the first time and the closing of the event will be the playing of the Marines Hymn from the music carillon system built into the tower.

Installation of the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower Honoring 100 Years of Marine Aviation History The Marine Corps Aviation Association McCutcheon Squadron stood up on May 5th, 2006 on MCAS New River, North Carolina. Named after the highly decorated Marine aviator, General Keith B. McCutcheon, the members maintain the esprit de corps of General McCutcheon by gathering to honor the efforts of all Marines in Marine Aviation. Recognizing the work of MCAA National Headquarters in Quantico, VA, the MCAA McCutcheon squadron has contributed to MCAA by supporting semi-annual events that focus on the heritage of Marine aviation. After four years of hosting an (Only Graphical Depiction) event called Warrior Night and honoring those Marines that have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in Marine Aviation, the MCAA McCutcheon Squadron made it their mission to build a Memorial that would honor all of them. Our goal is to erect the tower on LT. A.A. Cunningham s 100th Anniversary solo flight on August 20, The following information provided are the details on the tower.

Verdin Company Marine Aviation Memorial Tower The Verdin Company is the premier supplier of bells, carillons, clocks and towers with over 35,000 installations worldwide. Family owned since 1842, The Verdin Company draws from more than 170 years experience to create landmarks and special gathering places that connect people throughout North America. Today, the fifth generation of the Verdin family leads the company by teaming technological creativity with traditional expertise. Standing 30 tall on a 9 foot by 9 foot concrete foundation, the Tower represents all of Marine Aviation and its stance on 100 years of loyal service to its Country and Corps. Clock Dial The Tower has four clock dials - one on each side of the tower. Each clock dial has inscribed on it Take Time to Remember allowing those that come to honor our fallen Marines to do just that. Tower Foundation and Foundation Plate The foundation of the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower will be a concrete foundation. Electrical power will be required in order to maintain operations of the clock and the computerized bell carillon system. The Tower will have a foundation plate that states This Tower Stands as a Tribute Honoring the Past, Saluting the Present and Inspiring the Future for Marine Aviation.

Marine Aviation Centennial Bell Marine Aviation has been supporting the Marines on the ground for the past 100 years. Whether it was in a direct or indirect supporting role, all missions are oriented to ensure the Marines on the ground are taken care of. One mission in particular that was supported by fixed wing and rotary wing Marine Aviation is the Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) / Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) Mission. When the first MEDEVAC/CASEVAC mission occurred during the Banana Wars in 1928, Medal of Honor recipient, 1stLt Christian F. Schilt, landed in a town of Quilali, Nicaragua and evacuated wounded Marines in his bi-plane. Currently in Afghanistan, Marines continue to fly these missions to save the lives of our fellow Marines. The Marine Aviation Memorial Tower stands as a tribute honoring the past, saluting the present and inspiring the future of Marine Aviation. The Marine Aviation Centennial Bell is the heart of the Tower and is a symbol to honor the mission that saves the lives of our Marines - the MEDEVAC/CASEVAC mission. Memorial Tower Foundation Bronze Medallions The foundation will also consist of 102 bronze medallions with the name of every squadron presently in Marine Aviation.
