1 SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP LIST Westerville North High School Dear Senior/Senior Parent, We hope this list will help you get started in your search for the next step in your life s journey after you leave Westerville North. This list is organized by due date, not alphabetically or by type of opportunity. Keep in mind that this list is not by any means all-inclusive, but is meant to give you a sense of the large variety of opportunities that are out there. (Caution: Beware that not all scholarship offers or searches are legitimate. If you are in doubt as to the legitimacy of an opportunity, please check with your guidance counselor. Scam warning signs would include requests for credit card information, pressure tactics, guarantees, fees, and lack of official contact information.) There are many scholarships that you may apply for specifically, but keep in mind that many colleges and universities automatically enter you into the running for their own scholarship pools when you send in your general application and they determine that you meet their eligibility requirements. When surfing the internet for schools, please note the deadline to apply, whether they require essays, what scholarship opportunities might be available, if letters of recommendation are required, etc. Please be considerate of the guidance counselors/teachers when asking them for recommendation letters. Plan ahead and give them the information as early as possible so that they have time to compose the personalized letter that you want them to on your behalf. Even if you consider yourself to be an average student and think that this scholarship information is just for the top students, you will be surprised at the number of opportunities that are out there for you. Don t forget about technical schools, music and art schools and scholarship contests. Local Scholarship Applications & Information will be available in early December. The deadline to turn in application materials will be early February. Local Scholarships include those awarded by the Booster Clubs, PTA s, Westerville Businesses and Organizations, and Memorials. The list of local scholarships and application materials will be on WNHS website under Guidance. It is hard work to do applications and essays for college when you are trying to also make it successfully through your senior year and have fun at the same time! This program will take place on Monday evening ( ) at 7:00 PM on the OSU campus. This program is open to ALL students (middle school seniors). AF Academy and AFROTC Cadets will make presentations about each program & participate in a Question and Answer session. We will talk about the academic rigors at a US Service Academy. For students interested in a traditional academic setting we will explain how AFROTC is integrated into the educational programs at large public universities like OSU, liberal arts colleges like Otterbein, and specialized schools like Embry Riddle. Alvin Cox spent more than 40 years as a public school teacher and advisor to students going through the college admissions process. Mr. Cox dedicated a large portion of his career to finding financial assistance for those who were unable to afford college tuition (please follow this link for more information on Mr. Alvin Cox). After his passing in 2006 his family decided to continue on with Mr. Cox's mission through the creation of the Alvin J. Cox Memorial Scholarship.
