Call to Order (Chair, Igor Bisio) The meeting was called to order at 13:00 with 35 people in attendance. After participants introduced themselves, Dr. Bisio introduced the committee and welcome new members. The agenda of the meeting was presented and accepted by all the attendees. 2. B. IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC) GEs: Prof. Sacchi and Prof. Vanelli-Coralli It is under review by the JSAC Editorial Board: the EiC Prof. Medard planned a meeting about our proposal in these days. We should receive the final decision very soon; C. Others A Call for Topics has been proposed and several interesting proposals have been received: SmallSats/Cubesats; Nanosatellites for Network Access in Rural and Isolated Areas; Terabit Satellite Communications; Software-Defined Satellite Payloads and Networks; Reconfigurable Payloads and Mega Constellations networks An appropriate selection of the topics and of the Guest Editors team will follow For this task, a specific work-group, aimed at promoting the Editorial activities, will be appointed as group supporting the officers about this issue E. 6 8. Work-groups / Sub-Committees To make more intense the SSC activities, we propose to appoint the following work-groups a. IEEE and IEEE ComSoc Awards and Fellowships b. Education and Distinguish Lecturers c. Standards d. Editorial Initiative Proposal The work-groups will support the officers' team about the mentioned issues and will be appointed by the officers' team and their term is coincident with the term of the officers The work-groups could be informal (no OP&P modifications should be introduced) or formal (OP&P modifications will be provided) Voluntieers, suggestions and any other contribution are highly welcome 9. Technical Activities Council (TAC) Report (Secretary, T. de Cola) A. Agenda The TAC meeting hold on Wed 10 June, am (London Suites 2 & 3, Excel Convention Center) Welcome and Introductions Approval of the Agenda Approval of the TAC meeting minutes (GC 14) TAC Report Technical Committees Review Recognition Plaques and Certificates Emerging Technologies Committee Distinguished Lecturers Program (DL) AoB Zhisheng Niu Sherman Shen All B. A brief report from the TAC: Education: WCET (Wireless Communication Engeneering Technology Certification) initiatives have been succesfully provided in India and Egypt; New on-line courses have been organized (e.g., 5G, Big Data, Mobility Protocols...); a first Summer School in Trento (organized by Prof. Granelli sponsored by the ComSoc has been organized. The appointed work-group should work on initiatives such as on-line courses on SSC related topics and futures schools Standards: 5G and IoT represent good opportunity for new standards The related work-group should provide inputs about standards by interacting with the VP-Standards Activity and the Standards Activities Directors DL: new deadline for new DLs is August 15th, It represents a very important initiative for ComSoc The related work-group should individuate and/or convey good candidatures for this role from the SSC TC. 6/ 8

7 C. Review of the TC Portfolio A new approach to elevate Sub-commitees to Committees is a 2+2 model. After two years the degree of interest and of activity is evaluated. If satisfactory the SubTC is elevated, if not 2 more years of work are allowed. Note: the evaluation criteria are not so clear to me. Attendance to the meetings has been mentioned as performance metric. Probably, editorial initiatives, education and standardization activities are important as well. Involvement in ICC/GC organization and paper submissions are surely important. Two sub-committees have been elevated: Innovation & Standards in Information & Communication Technologies (ISICT) and Social Networks. New Sub-TCs have been activated such as Big Data. Notes: some Sub-TC even if interesting are more suited for different IEEE Societies (e.g., Computer Society). Other current TC could be merged because they seems overlapped: the VP-Technical Activities explicitly mentioned the WC and RadioComms Tcs. In the past similar observations have been (erroneously) done also for the SSC wrt the WC. Note: we have to maximize our effort concerning the aformentioned metrics to avoid possible merging proposals. The Officers and the proposed work-groups have such a mission. 10. SSC Service Award (Chair, Igor Bisio) 2015 SSC Award to be announced during SSC Meeting at IEEE GLOBECOM 15 Deadline for 2015 SSC Award Nominations: 15th September, Updated Advisory Board The current Officers team has evaluated the involvement of new members for this Board. Considering that the IEEE ComSoc Technical Activity Council (TAC) is revising the TCs portfolio, possible revisions could be asked also to our SSC TC For this reason, we think that the current officers should be supported by an Advisory Board composed of experinced members such as the current Advisor, Prof. Des Taylor, and other members that can help with their great experience Proposal: the AB can be composed by the Advisor and by other 5 Past Chairs (available for this role).
