The Space Systems business unit focuses on developing and executing space projects. In particular, it is responsible for developing and manufacturing low-orbiting and geostationary small satellites for navigation, research, communications and earth observation including scientific payloads. Its manned space flight activities chiefly entail the assembly and operation of the International Space Station ISS, Columbus and ATV. The exploration segment works on studies and models for exploring our solar system, primarily the moon and Mars. In addition, efficient reconnaissance satellites and broadband wireless transmission of image data form core technologies for security and reconnaissance. The Aerospace + Industrial Products business unit is primarily responsible for manufacturing aviation and space products as well as engaging in other industrial activities. In this area, OHB has established itself as a leading supplier of aerospace structures for the aviation and space industry; among other things, it is the largest German supplier of components for the Ariane-5 program. In addition, OHB is an experienced provider of mechatronic systems for antennas and telescopes and is involved in several major radio telescope projects. OHB telematics systems serve the logistics industry around the world by offering efficient transport management and consignment tracking facilities. 2

4 OHB ASTRI Project Proposal - Development of a Micro Moon Lander (MML) Goal Output Disciplines Student number Phases Cooperation with OHB Duration, Timeline, Planning Costs Develop a Micro Moon Lander (MML) that is able to transport a small payload of ~10 kg to the Moon and allow a soft landing in a first step. The lander shall be scalable so that also larger payloads can be transported in a later stage. The technical project shall be accompanied by a business case. Side goals shall be: Improved communication and establishment of new communication and exchange means due to the geographic distances between the different students and their OHB mentors, sharpening of intercultural competencies, pushing of networking Within the project, a feasibility study / phase A/B1 study shall be carried out, which shall set the basis for the implementation of a lander. The feasibility study shall be accompanied by a business plan. All satellite disciplines are required including mechanics / structure, propulsion, AOCS, communication and business planning. The number of students shall be between 8 and 10, specialised in the different elements of satellite design - at least one student interested in working on business planning. The project shall be structured in two different phases: Phase 1: Feasibility study including business case writing /sponsor search, Phase 2: Typical Phase A/B1 with all technical elements including refinement of business case. The students shall work at the various companies of the OHB group being in charge of the different elements. The work shall be performed in tandems one OHB staff / one student. At this point of time, the following work share is presumed: Project Management and payload integration: Blue Horizon (Luxembourg), Propulsion and AOCS: OHB Sweden (Sweden), Communication: OHB LuxSpace and / or Antwerpspace (Luxembourg / Belgium), Structure / Mechanics: OHB Italia (Italy), Other elements: OHB System (Germany). The students will largely work at the different facilities of OHB or at their universities and will gather several times over the project duration in workshops. 18 months where of 3 months start up, 6 months feasibility study, 9 months phase A. Conference calls: It is planned that students/mentors meet every week in a conference call / webex or similar to report progress. Two days workshops shall take place every 3 months. Five days brainstorming workshops shall take place at the beginning of the project, after 9 months and after 15 months. These workshops will take place at one or several places, easy to reach from the various geographic locations in Europe. Direct costs: All student travels and accommodation for the workshops will be borne by OHB SE. Compensation of student working hours has to be defined. The costs of OHB staff hours and travel shall be borne by the different OHB companies. The total number of planned workshops is 7, the number of workshop days is 23. The number of students is assumed to be 10. Workshop organisation including social events is approximately As such total costs are assumed at approximately for OHB SE (500 per student and day including travel and accommodation, compensation of student working hours: tbd). Indirect costs: For each OHB company mentoring and workshop presence effort is assumed at 10h per month per student over 18 months assuming that 2 students work in each company (10x18x2 = 360h + 230h for workshop presence + 110h for different tasks = 700h per company over 18 months). Follow On: It is planned already now to really build the lander and students who are interested and capable are welcomed to continue working on the project during the realisation phase as employees of the OHB group.
