1 ICC Romania ICC Romania District Coordinator: Monty Rice PP, RC Cambria Committee Steve Berg PP, RC Los Olivos Diane Galvin PP, RC Moorpark Dana Moldovan PP, RC Newbury Park Romania General Information Romania is located in Eastern Europe. Romanian's democracy is pretty new and fragile; it started in 1989 after the fall of Communism which left behind a broken economy and broken values, and as consequence lots of people in need for help. Our help in Romania is focused on underprivileged children, hospitals, wheelchairs, kids affected by hemophilia and many more... Also we organize Rotary trips to Romania giving the Rotarians from here the opportunity to go and visit the country, meet with local Rotarians, evaluate and select projects to work on and see the projects results. Founded in 1998 by Mia Scarlat, Mia s Children provides daily tutoring, counseling, art, singing, writing, drama and Scripture reading. The children are taught respect of themselves and each other. They are taught love. For many of the children, their stay with Mia is the first time they have been exposed to music, culture, beauty and self expression through art. Painting is a favorite pastime and much of the children s art has been exhibited. 2
