5 GUIDANCE NEWS: West Point-Beemer High School & Middle School Danny Fernau, High School Guidance Counselor, Sandy Luebbe, Middle School Guidance Counselor Middle School News As the second semester begins, students are encouraged to set academic goals. One model for success in school is shaped like a pyramid. Having a positive attitude is at the base of the pyramid and forms the foundation. As we all know, a building without a foundation will not support the structure. The same is true about reaching goals. A positive attitude is the foundation for success. Skills are the second layer of this success model. Study skills such as note-taking, writing assignments in planners, and bringing materials to class help students achieve academic goals. The third layer of the success pyramid contains resources available for reaching the goal. These resources include not only books and other materials, but the people who can help students be successful. Finally, at the top of the pyramid is the goal. The goal cannot stand alone. It must be supported through positive attitude, skills and resources. Please take time to help your student identify academic goals and a plan for reaching them. The interest you show will help build the foundation for success! Seniors February TO DO LIST: College Applications should be completed. If not, this needs to be done ASAP!! If you haven t already..
