3 WHAT IS IEEE? () Part - 3 OVERVIEW The Organization IEEE stands for The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Is the largest technical organization in the world, with over 380,000 members [cf. IEEE had two predecessors: The American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) established in New York on May 3, 884; and The Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) established in 92. These organizations were developed as a result of the theoretical and applied advances in: electrotechnology (e.g., arc lights and Edison's incandescent lights, as well as power-related equipment); and wired/wireless communications (e.g., telegraph, telephone, underwater cable between Europe and America, and radio). Part - 5 OVERVIEW Region 7 The world is subdivided into Regions Each Region is subdivided into Sections Each Section operates through Chapters of Societies Winnipeg Section Chapters Our Winnipeg Section (465 members, including 5 students) has the following chapters:. Computer; 2. Communications; 3. Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS); 4. MANCOM (Engineering Management, EMS; Professional Communication, PCS; Education); 5. 6 The Beginnings of the Winnipeg Section Part - 6 OVERVIEW Before 953 From 947 to 952, Manitoba's technical electrical and electronics communities constituted a subsection of: Inception the AIEE Toronto Section (the oldest section in Canada, established September 30, 903). On August 8, 953, the Winnipeg Section became autonomous under IRE.
