Introduction of new officers Immediate past chair Jeff Glickman introduce new Officers Peter Barry treasurer,ben Koala vice chair, Sheree Wen - chair Approval of November 2013 minutes. approved. Immediate past chair Jeff Glickman thanks for last year and the December banquet. Northwest area chair report Northwest area Chair Dave Butcher submitted 1) need to get PSEC engineering fair organized The event will be held at Museum of flight on Saturday Feb 8 th, 10am -4pm. 2) PSEC banquet will be held on Saturday Feb 15 th. 3) Region 6 Op-com will be held on Jan31st-February 2 with breakout sessions. Seattle section needs to provide a report. 4) NW area meeting will be held on April 19 th in Seattle. Treasurer report treasure Joe Decuir presented 1) Current Seattle section account discussed with preliminary numbers. Final number will be reported during next Excom. 2) 2013 year expenses were documented. 3) Netsuite is used as IEEE Seattle section financial tool 4) He will transfer duty to new treasure Peter Berry. 5) The treasure need to create 2014 budget. 1

2 Power engineering Society Max Emrick presented 1)2014 IEEE Northwest Energy System Symposium (NWESS) Date April 30 th May 1 st. at University of Washington. The intent of the Northwest Energy System Symposium is to provide a 2-day program to educate and train engineers and others about emerging technologies in Renewable Energy, Smart Grid and End-use Energy Applications. The two-day symposium focuses on a wide range of topics and provides information on how to best address some of the most pressing energy issues facing the industry. Seattle Chapter has approved to support and sponsor this conference as in Nov 2013 EXCOM. 2)Distinguished Lecturer at Alston Grid Wednesday February 26 th Start 5:30pm, Mani Venkata will be speak at Alston Grid in Redmond Washington. The topic will be Advances in Distribution Automation and Real- Time Operations for Emerging Distribution Systems. 3) PES/ SEATTLE Section GOLD Event The Seattle PES Chapter is putting together a networking event for GOLD members. Coordinated by Abdur Rehman, PES GOLD coordinator, the event will be held at Seattle University. Plan to have a short talk followed by bowling and pool. The event will be joined as Seattle section PACE and WIE event. approved by Excom and Seattle session will provide funding. Event will be joined by Seattle section GOLD and WIE. 4) Flow Battery Production Facility tour, January 29 th Wednesday 5pm-7pm PES chapter will held the first technical tour at UniEnergy Technology (UET) in Mukilteo; Following a bit of networking and socializing, they will have a short discussion on applications for utility scale flow batteries and then we will tour the production facility where UET constructs their containerized flow batteries. 5) PES is planning a senior member drive. 6) PES chapter is planning to apply for outstanding chapter award. 2

3 ISOT 2014 conference University of Washington associate professor Weichih Wang presented the plan for ISOT 2014, International symposium on opt mechanics technology. Typically ISOT has 120 people, with budget about $70,000. They proposed to get technical co-sponsorship from IEEE. They request to have the conference publication through IEEE. Seattle session EXCOM approved to support the conference subject to IEEE headquarter allow to sign MOU with them, a not non-profit organization. International Test Conference October 21-23, 2014, Convention center,seattle Washington. ITC is a large conference with attendees annually and with budget of $700,000. Proposed and approved that we become technical co-sponsors no request for $. There is a Luncheon to meet with the organizing committee. GHTC 2014 Oct Silicon valley san Jose CA- Joe Decuir report Seattle section, Joe Decuir will be 2014 conference Vice Chair. GHTC 2015 will be moved back to Seattle, Joe Decuir will be conference chair and Sheree Wen will be Conference Vice chair. Sheree Wen will be conference Chair for 2016 and Eric Godo will be conference chair for Motion for Seattle Section join region 6 and Santa Clara session to co- sponsor GHTC 2014 with $5000, 20% of the conference seed budget -- approved. Communication Society Titus Lo, chair of COM-19/VTS-06 submitted Update for COM-19/VTS-06: will have a meeting from 6pm-8pm on 1/16 Topic: Contactless Mobile NFC/Payment, TEE Mobile Device Security of Smartphones & Tablet PCs Future Cities Steve Allen Excom approved $3000 for platinum sponsorship from Seattle Section.- Approved. Mukilteo school program Erling Hesla To teach middle school students about engineering so they know what to take in high school. Do it in the fall of 2014 at Voyager middle school 270 students. The competition is to design and work with sticks to build a bridge. 3

4 GOLD Erling asked for $500 from Seattle Section. Approved. Setup facebook group. Getting GOLD members to join the group. Then social meetings and then start monthly speakers. Talked with PES about joint GOLD activities. Excom approved up to $2000 for joint GOLD event with PES. Also a STEP event getting $500 from GOLD headquarters doing that in early March. Oceans Engineering Chapter OEC chair Skip Denny report On 3rd Thursdays of each month, OEC hold joint meetings with the Seattle Marine Technology and Hydrographic Societies 6 PM Social & Dinner, 7 PM Meeting and presentation at Rm 408, Ocean Sciences Bldg, University of Washington. Previous meeting: Stockton Rush of OceanGate, Inc. on Progress and Activities with Manned Submersibles Last meeting was: Fredrik Ryden, Ph.D, Vice President, Engineering, BluHaptics, Inc. on "How this technology can make subsea operations safer and more efficient Next meeting: 20 February 2014, Location: Benjamin Hall Hall, Pacific Ave, (Behind North Lake Tavern) Time: 6 PM for Social, 7 PM Dinner and Talk. Speaker: Dana Manalang, APL-UW Topic: RSN", Tour of Ben hall labs SECTION WEBSITE Vice Chair Ben Koala refreshed the section website with updated information. He made the calendar up to date and linked with chapter website and event website. He contacted chapters for information and new events as well as past events with photos. Membership development Joe Decuir 1)To organize senior member events. 2) Assemble a set of courses on the IEEE benefits. Would like to run a survey on what courses are of interest. 3)MakerFaire Excom decide not to sponsor $1000 this year. UW professional master program- Les Atlas,Professor and Bloedel Research Scholar Director, Professional Masters Program University of Washington, Les Atlas atlas@uw.edu 4

Student Activities- Yuhua Lao volunteer to coordinate Student activities.- Approved Student Chapter DeVry trying to re-launch the student chapter to the on-site programs and working with the advisor.. 5
