2 The Association offers the following awards and scholarships to students at academic institutes pursuing studies in geomatics and to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the land surveying profession of Manitoba. Award Recipients for 2016 Red River College s 2016 Technology Awards Reception was held on November 24, AMLS s President, Michael Pare, was on hand to present the Bryan Dreger Awards and the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors Scholarships. 3 THE BRYAN I. DREGER AWARD RED RIVER COLLEGE Value: $ Number of awards = 1 This award was established in memory of Bryan I. Dreger by the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors and his friends and colleagues. Conditions: This award is offered annually to a student entering the third year of the Geomatics Engineering program at Red River College. Applicants must be student member of the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors and must have worked for a land surveying firm in their most recent co-op. The award is based on academic merit and the candidate must have attained the highest marks Jaden McGonigal & Justin Beebe-Brand Jordan Neufeld Tania Gosselin Kerry Holberg ASSOCIATION OF MANITOBA LAND SURVEYORS CADASTRAL DEVELOPMENT AWARD Value: $500...Number of awards = 1 Offered annually to a student entering the third year in a Geomatics Engineering program at a recognized university or the final year of studies in Geomatics Technology at a recognized college or technical institution, who has completed secondary schooling within the Province of Manitoba. The award is based on academic merit as determined in the previous academic year. Should there be no suitable recipient for the award under the previously stated conditions, the award shall be offered to a student who has fulfilled all the previously stated conditions except that of having completed secondary education in the Province of Manitoba. 3

5 MEMBERS SCHOLARSHIP Value: $ Number of awards = 1 This scholarship is given to a Geomatics Technology student with the highest Grade Point Average entering the final year of the Geomatics Technology program at Red River Community College, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Automatic Selection Application Not Required Garrett Richards Jordan Neufeld Richard Martin Fontaine PETER FIDLER AWARD The Peter Fidler Award is a distinguished service award presented by the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors to a person or persons who in the opinion of the Association has exhibited an outstanding contribution to promoting and/or advancing the profession of land surveying in Manitoba. The award is named in honour of Peter Fidler, one of the province s earliest pioneers in surveying. Peter worked for the Hudson Bay Company in the early 1800 s and completed a number of surveying and mapping projects throughout the province on the company s behalf. In 1812, he was sent to the Red River colony as assistant to Lord Selkirk and surveyed lots and supervised building of houses. He travelled extensively throughout his career and made significant contributions to the surveying and mapping heritages of the three prairie provinces. The award shall take the form of a plaque or framed certificate to be presented to the recipient during the Annual General Meeting of the Manitoba Land Surveyor s Association whenever possible. Recipients of the award shall not be restricted to land surveyors. Efforts to 5

6 recognize persons outside of the Association are to be encouraged. The award shall be presented, not necessarily annually, nor limited to only one award annually. Nominations for the award, together with a resume of the nominee and reasons for the nomination, shall be solicited from members of the Association each year. All nominations shall be reviewed by the Nominating Committee of the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors, which will forward a recommendation to the Executive Council of same for approval at least three months prior to the Annual General Meeting of the Association.
