A revised MSN crriclm was pt in place for that track in Fall, 2003 in which an adlt psychiatric nrse practitioner option was added to the crriclm and the clinical nrse specialist options for psychiatric nrsing were eliminated. Based on sbseqent analysis in Fall, 2003 faclty conclded that several modifications were needed. First, faclty wold like to delete NUR 726 and NUR 727 from the crriclm and replace those corses with a three credit hor elective. A new statement on competencies of psychiatric nrse practitioners and standards for edcational programs by the National Organization on Nrse Practitioner Faclties indicates the content in these two corses is not essential for this specialization. Frther, deleting these two corses from the Psychiatric Nrse Practitioner crriclm will make it possible for these stdents to take a 3 credit hor elective, consistent with the other specialty tracks in the MSN program. The total credit hors reqired for gradation will not change and will remain 44 credits for the nrse practitioner stdents. Second, they wold like to add the Psychiatric Mental Health Family Nrse Practitioner option. Third, faclty wold like to restore the Adlt and Child! Adolescent Clinical Nrse Specialist options. Adding the Psychiatric Mental Health Family Nrse Practitioner option and the Adlt and Child! Adolescent Clinical Nrse Specialist options can be accomplished within the new crriclm plan withot any major or minor corse changes. Instead, modifications will be An Eqal Opportnity University
2 made in stdent assignments within the crrently reqired specialty corse seqence of NUR 722, NUR 723 and NUR 724. Forth, faclty wold like to revise the Post-MSN specialty crricla for Psychiatric- Mental Health Nrsing accordingly.

First, faclty wold like to delete NUR 726 and NUR 727 from the crriclm and replace those corses with a three credit hor elective.. A new statement on competencies of psychiatric nrse practitioners and standards for edcational programs by the National Organization on Nrse Practitioner Faclties indicates the content in these two corses is not essential for this specialization. Third, faclty wold like to restore the Adlt and Child! Adolescent Clinical Nrse Specialist options. Adding the Psychiatric Mental Health Family Nrse Practitioner option and the Adlt and Child/Adolescent Clinical Nrse Specialist options can be accomplished within the new crriclm plan withot any major or minor corse changes. Instead, modifications will be made in stdent assignments within the crrently reqired specialty corse seqence ofnur 722, NUR 723 and NUR 724. The syllabi for those corses are attached. Modifications in corse assignments are highlighted in bold. Forth, faclty wold like to revise the Post-MSN specialty crricla for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nrsing accordingly. The crrent and revised crricla are attached. Effective Date: Fall, 2004 Rationale fof DfoDosed changes: These modifications will provide for a fll range of sbspecialty options within the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nrsing track in the Master's of Science in Nrsing degree program. This will facilitate stdent recritment into psychiatric-mental health nrsing and yield more gradates to provide advanced practice nrsing care for people with psychiatric and mental health problems. The modifications do not change the total nmber of reqired credit hors for gradation. Thank yo for yor consideration of this proposal.
