Our graduates are ready to enter comprehensive and patient-centered practice with the ability to adapt to all settings in Canada. Our residents are engaged learners and have the support and role-modelling to develop as resilient life-long learning family physicians. Our preceptors are fully supported and model best family-medicine practice and foster their residents development as family physicians. Our program provides outstanding family medicine training, promotes and integrates continuous improvement and drives education innovation. 1. Environment Provide a safe, supportive, collaborative teaching and learning environment Support & promote the health and wellness of our Residents, Preceptors and Program staff. 2. Teaching Attract, support, develop and retain Preceptors and Faculty who are effective teachers and strong clinician role-models. Provide high quality teaching, supervision and mentoring to residents All Preceptors are engaged in an ongoing process of evaluation and self-improvement in relation to teaching skills Support and promote family-medicine appropriate teaching in non-family medicine environments 3. Curriculum Provide an effective, consistent and integrated curriculum in line with the evolving role of the Canadian Family Physician Use appropriate and innovative, evidence-informed teaching delivery methods 4. 3 CAME Certificate of Merit Awards Submission Deadline December 8, 2017 Objective: To promote, recognize and reward faculty committed to medical education in Canadian medical schools. The Award The Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME) Certificate of Merit Award consists of a certificate and the opportunity to write an article for the CAME Voice. The number of awards to be given in any year will be determined by the CAME Executive on an annual basis/university. Eligibility Criteria 1. All contributors to medical education in each school are eligible (undergraduate, postgraduate, CME/CPD and Faculty Development). Recipients need not be members of CAME. 2. Recipients will have contributed to medical education deemed to be valuable within their medical school (teaching, assessment, evaluation, educational leadership, course coordination, education, research). 3. Recipients should not have already been nationally awarded for this contribution, or a past recipient of this award at the University of Calgary (see below for list of past recipients). 4. Members currently serving on the CAME Executive, CAME Board of Directors or the CAME Awards Committee are not eligible. Process Please submit: a) a brief one paragraph description of achievements AND b) a maximum 140-character comment for each of the awardees (this will be used to introduce winners at Awards Ceremony, and on social media). Submissions are to be ed by December 8, 2017 to nishan.sharma@ucalgary.ca. CAME will notify the awardees by . The Certificate of Merit Awards will be presented at CAME s Annual General Meeting at the Canadian Conference for Medical Education in April It is an expectation that the COM awardees will attend where at all possible. CAME will acknowledge each recipient on its website and through Twitter, and receipts will be acknowledged at University of Calgary as well.

Knowledge of the issues involved will enhance your skill set in working in a challenging and rewarding field. Gary Rodin is the Joint University of Toronto/ University Health Network Harold and Shirley Lederman Chair in Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care and is Head of the internationally respected Department of Supportive Care at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. He is also the Director of the Global Institute of Psychosocial, Palliative and End-of-Life Care (GIPPEC) and a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Gary Dr. Rodin s extensive research and clinical experience addresses existential distress, attachment and relational therapies and theories, depression among the medically ill and preserving self-esteem. Books he has written include: Depression and the Medically Ill, and Psychiatric Aspects of Transplantation. Dr. Rodin has been honored with national and international awards for his psycho-oncology No one is untouched by death and end of life issues whether among patients, family members of our patients, relatives or ourselves. Dr. Gary Rodin will outline the theoretical and clinical framework for the evidence-based CALM (Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully) psychological intervention co-developed with Dr. Sarah Hales for individuals with advanced cancer and their caregivers. Subsequently, Dr. Rodin will show video-taped clinical material from CALM sessions to illustrate implementation. The model incorporates attachment, relational, and existential theories to address concerns among those with advanced cancer and other advanced medical illnesses. Within three to six sessions, the clinician addresses the practical and the profound, in relation to symptoms and communication with treatment team, changes in the self and relationships with others, meaning and purpose; hope and mortality.
