1 August 4, 2015 Dear OCA Members, RE: 2015 Award Nomination Information and Forms As a volunteer organization, it is important to provide opportunities for Members to gain recognition and acknowledgement for their outstanding contributions to the Association, the camp industry and to their own camps. Recognizing our deserving colleagues is an important way for us to appreciate their career achievements and set the bar for our younger colleagues. The Ontario Camps Association s Awards Committee is currently accepting nominations for the following awards: Dorothy Walter Award of Excellence, Volunteer Recognition, Honorary Life Award, Ron and Mickey Johnstone Youth Leadership Award, Preferred Vendor Recognition Award, International Development Award, and Camp Milestone Award. The Awards Committee is counting on YOU to help us identify potential Awards Candidates. Please review the criteria for each award and nominate a worthy colleague in the applicable categories. 2 Please note: SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Awards are not necessarily presented in all categories each year. 2. More than one award may be presented in any category and there maybe more than one recipient. SELECTION COMMITTEE The OCA Awards Committee consists of the OCA Board of Directors and Members of the OCA Community. NOMINATION FORM 2015 OCA Awards Nominations must include the name, address, telephone number and address of the nominator and nominee, plus the supporting information for the nominee. Confidentiality is assured; nominations will be handled in a professional and secure manner. Nominators may, at their discretion, inform nominees that they have been nominated. The OCA will contact all candidates and all nominators with the outcome of the review each year. The OCA Awards Committee will review all nominations and will recommend award recipients for approval by the Association s Board of Directors. PROCEDURES FOR SUBMISSION OF NOMINATION Please complete the nomination form(s) and attach/enclose supporting documentation with a reference to the candidate s name on each page. As we will copy the complete nomination package for our committee Members, please ensure that the material you provide is clear. If we feel the nomination package is not complete or informative enough, we may contact you for more information. EACH NOMINATION PACKAGE MUST INCLUDE: 1. A fully completed nomination form with the appropriate attachments. 2. A brief biographical sketch of the nominee (résumé or curriculum vitae is welcome). 3. A clear and concise statement of words or less which indicates why the candidate is deserving of the specific OCA Award for which they are being nominated. 3 DOROTHY WALTER AWARD OF EXCELLENCE Description: This award was created by the OCA Board to recognize the contribution of Dorothy Walter to the growth and development of the Association. It is the most prestigious recognition offered by the OCA. Dorothy died in December of 2006, however, her legacy of leadership lives on in the form of the good work completed and the fine examples set by the past and future recipients of this high recognition. The award is presented, not necessarily annually, for providing outstanding service over a period of time. The Candidates outstanding service must include: 1. OCA Board and/or Committee leadership; 2. OCA Workshop and/or Conference leadership; and 3. Publication of articles regarding the field of camping. 4 HONORARY LIFE MEMBER AWARD Description: The Ontario Camps Association is honoured to present the names of camp leaders, who over many years, have trail blazed, built bridges and have set precedents which have assisted others in the Ontario camping industry. Honorary Life Member (HLM) Award Nominees hold a place of special significance in the traditions and successes of our Association. New paths and bridges created and implemented by current camp professionals rest upon the solid foundations laid by these courageous pioneers. Honorary Life Members in our Association are a permanent part of our camp lives. Recipients shall have: 1. Ten (10) or more years of distinguished service in the field of camping; 2. Held positions on the OCA Board or have chaired Committee(s), Task Force(s) or Special Project(s) for a total of 10 years; 3. Held an executive position of a camp organization or agency for at least 10 years, and 4. Reached 55 years of age or retired from active service in camp. 5 RON AND MICKEY JOHNSTONE YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD Description: Working as a team, Ron and Mickey Johnstone made significant contributions to both the Ontario Camps Association and the Canadian Camping Association which have permanently enriched and enhanced both Associations. Mickey s continued commitment to the development of camping across Canada and both of their remarkable skills in the area of youth leadership development have left us a lasting legacy. This award is presented to camp leaders who: 1. Are between the ages of 17 and 30 years of age 2. Demonstrate outstanding leadership of youth through innovation and creativity; and 3. Apply their innovative skills in an OCA Accredited Camp. This award is presented to individuals whose service and commitment to the OCA have merited special mention and to acknowledge their significant and special contribution to the work of the Ontario Camps Association in the year of presentation. Providing products/services- in- kind and/or who have donated to or financially supported OCA educational events. 9 CAMP MILESTONE AWARD Description: The Ontario Camps Association recognizes individuals or organizations who have blazed trails, led new initiatives and volunteered their time and expertise to camps and/or the camp industry for an extended period of time. This award is given to: 1. Individuals working/volunteering at camps, Individual Members, or Preferred Vendors who have reached a Milestone Year in the camps industry, or 2. Accredited Camps who have reached a Milestone Year (i.e. 10 years, 25 years, 50 years, 75 years, 100 years, 125 years or more).
