3 CONTINUING PHARMACY EDUCATION CREDIT The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education (CPE). The 2015 ACCP Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy will provide up to 19.0 contact hours of CPE credit. Up to 9.5 additional contact hours are possible through participation in the premeeting symposia. Meeting Goals and Target Audience The ACCP Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy is designed for clinical practitioners, educators, residents, fellows, and pharmacy students engaged in all aspects of clinical pharmacy. The educational program developed for the conference provides attendees with new, highquality information that is challenging and applicable to their practice. The program goals are as follows: To update clinical pharmacists on new therapeutic advances and management strategies; To enhance attendees clinical, research, teaching, and leadership skills; To discuss the challenges of expanding the scope of pharmacy practice and emerging practice models; and To present opportunities in clinical pharmacy and global health. Barr, M.D., MBA, FACP, Executive Vice President, Research, Performance Measurement and Analysis, National Committee for Quality Assurance, Washington, D.C. Plan to attend the keynote address as Dr. Barr discusses the bigpicture framework for quality measurement in the evolving U.S. health care delivery system and its alignment with international efforts and measures in other advanced countries. In his address, Dr. Barr will review the commonalities and differences in what quality means to patients, providers, payers, and policy-makers and share the lessons learned from various quality measurement approaches. Dr. Barr will also identify areas of quality measurement in medication use that clinical pharmacists can directly affect, and that align with and support, broader health quality goals and efforts. PRN Focus Sessions The 2015 ACCP Global Conference agenda includes 23 educational programs developed by ACCP s Practice and Research Networks (PRNs). 4 PROGRAMMING APPROVED FOR SPECIALTY RECERTIFICATION From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Novel Agents and Management Strategies in Endocrinology Saturday, October 17: 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Approved for BCACP and BCPS Recertification! Once again, From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties for the recertification of Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacists (BCACPs) and Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPSs). This year s program will provide an in-depth analysis of the current evidence on the use of various agents approved for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity and will discuss implications on pharmacist patient-care services. BCACPs and BCPSs can earn 6.0 hours of recertification credit. Partial credit is not available. Participants who are certified in both ambulatory care pharmacy and pharmacotherapy will earn 6.0 hours of credit toward recertification in both specialties. 5 From Theory to Bedside: Clinical Reasoning Series Heart Failure: Current and Emerging Management Strategies Saturday, October 17: 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Approved for BCPS and BCACP Recertification! From Theory to Bedside: Clinical Reasoning Series has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties for the recertification of BCPSs and BCACPs. This year s program will focus on contemporary strategies for the optimal management of patients with chronic and acute decompensated heart failure. Sessions will detail and apply evidence that helps inform individual patient care and advances pharmacist services. BCPSs and BCACPs can earn 6.0 hours of recertification credit. Partial credit is not available. Participants who are certified in both ambulatory care pharmacy and pharmacotherapy will earn 6.0 hours of credit toward recertification in both specialties. The Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Sessions for BCOP Recertification Board Certified Oncology Pharmacists (BCOPs) and other participants interested in oncology pharmacy should plan to attend the Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Sessions, cosponsored by ACCP, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and the Hematology/ Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA). The Board of Pharmacy Specialties has approved this programming for credit toward recertification in oncology pharmacy. BCOPs can earn 6.0 hours of recertification credit. Partial credit is not available. The sessions will be presented on Tuesday, October 20, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Wednesday, October 21, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. BCOPs must attend both sessions and successfully complete a Web-based posttest by December 31, 2015, to earn recertification credit in oncology pharmacy. A separate fee is required to access the Web-based posttest. 6 ACCP ACADEMY The ACCP Academy provides flexible, curricular-based professional development programs leading to a certificate of completion in three tracks: Leadership and Management, Research and Scholarship, and Teaching and Learning. Topics include navigating the P4 year, the residency application process, and curriculum vitae writing. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a special roundtable session facilitated by current pharmacy residents and clinical pharmacy professionals. Sit down with these clinicians to ask questions and acquire their perspectives on everything from applying and interviewing for residencies to excelling within the daily demands of residency. This session is intended to facilitate an open discussion and review student chapter formation, achievements, successes, and challenges with the aim of spreading and sharing ideas and strategies between student chapters. Discover how to get started in scholarly activity and how to market your experiences. Students in their last year of pharmacy school will want to pay close attention to how they can still acquire experience in research and publication. Education and Training PRN Mock-Interviewing Session Monday, October 19; 6:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Join fellow attendees for a brief discussion on interviewing skills immediately following the Education and Training PRN business meeting. Clinical faculty and practitioners from around the nation will then conduct practice interviews for students getting ready to apply for jobs or residencies and for residents and fellows getting ready to apply for their first career positions. All educators, students, and postgraduate trainees are invited to attend. ACCP CLINICAL PHARMACY CHALLENGE Join fellow attendees for the ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge as national student teams compete in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final round competitions. Teams will face off in a quiz bowl type format, answering questions in three distinct categories Trivia/Lightning, Clinical Case, and Jeopardy-style. An expert panel of clinical pharmacy practitioners and educators has developed and reviewed the item content used in each segment.
