2 AUTM 2017 Essentials of Academic Technology Transfer Course Preliminary Program About the AUTM Essentials Course The AUTM Essentials Course is designed for technology transfer professionals with 0-2 years of experience who are responsible for invention evaluation, intellectual property management, marketing and license negotiations. The course follows the life cycle of the invention, patenting, marketing and licensing process. The Essentials Course uses a mix of instruction, case discussions and small-group interactions to maximize useful learning and networking opportunities. Gain a better understanding of the fundamental goals and processes of academic technology transfer Learn different marketing tools and how to implement a variety of techniques to enhance overall effectiveness in your office Improve your evaluation and negotiation skills Explore various triage models and concepts that access critical evaluation information. The AUTM Essentials Course is interactive and includes plenty of case studies and examples. Questions and discussions will be encouraged. Added Value: AUTM Essentials Course registrants may attend sessions from the concurrent TOOLS Course curricula, maximizing educational value for each attendee s background, experience and interests, and broadening networking opportunities! Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) Demonstrate your expertise in the academic technology transfer profession by becoming a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP). All AUTM professional development courses and designated educational offerings and meetings are eligible for continuing education (CE) credits, which support your registration application. For more information about the registration process and requirements, visit the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP) website at Certified Licensing Professionals (CLP) Continuing Education Certified Licensing Professionals (CLP) are required to demonstrate continued competence in their field to maintain their certification status. Individuals who hold the CLP designation can renew their credential by earning at least 40 continuing education (CE) credits. All AUTM professional development courses and designated educational offerings on the topics of licensing, technology transfer and technology commercialization at AUTM conferences or meetings are eligible for CLP continuing education credits for certification renewal. Specifically, you will learn the forces and factors to enable success, and the framework and context you need to do your job. What is the Bayh-Dole Act and how does it impact your commercialization efforts? Do stakeholders view your office as a service organization, and how does this affect your relationship with your faculty? Do your stakeholders even know you exist, and how do you promote brand awareness among them? In the segment, we review the basics of intellectual property management and teach skills to enable you to quickly and effectively assess commercial potential of new innovations. Ideally situated in the heart of downtown with easy access to the West End District, Bank of America Plaza and House of Blues. The Crowne Plaza has a 24 hour fitness and business center, an outdoor pool and THRIVE Restaurant and Nightclub. Hotel Accommodations AUTM has negotiated a discounted rate of $ for single or double occupancy, plus applicable taxes. These rates will be available to attendees, based on availability, from Wednesday, September 6, through Saturday, September 16, Reserve a room online, or call the hotel at and identify yourself as an AUTM meeting attendee to obtain the special rate. Make reservations by August 18, Discounted room rates may not apply after this date. A credit card guarantee is required to hold your reservation. The hotel will charge the equivalent of one night s room and tax if cancellation notice is not provided to the hotel by noon at least 48 hours before scheduled arrival. Hotel check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is noon. Airport Transportation Information Crowne Plaza Dallas Downtown is located about 7 miles, 16 minutes from Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) and is approximately a $21 taxi fare. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is about 41 miles from the Crowne Plaza, a 50 minute cab ride and is approximately a $53. Shuttle service is available at the airport from Super Shuttle. One way rate is $12 - $16 per person one way. You can book online, please make your reservation to the airport at least 24 hours in advance to ensure your timely arrival to the airport. Car Rental Avis Rent A Car System Inc. is the official car-rental service for AUTM meetings. Avis agents can provide the best available rates during your stay. For reservations, call and reference the AUTM Avis Worldwide discount number J to receive special pricing. If you prefer, make your reservation online. Parking Self-parking for overnight guests is $16.00 per day and valet is $30.00 per day. Rates include in and our privileges. Attire and Weather Attire for AUTM meetings is business casual. Average daytime high temperature in Dallas in September is 89 F (32 C); the average low temperature is 69 F (21 C). Because meeting room temperatures sometimes fluctuate, AUTM recommends bringing a light sweater or jacket. International Visas Travelers coming from qualified countries to the United States for tourism or business for 90 days or less may be eligible to visit the United States without a visa. For additional information visit Registration Information Full meeting registration includes admission to all meeting workshops and group meal functions. An AUTM member attending either course may register one additional person from his or her organization at the reduced second registrant fee, saving $50. This special discount is only available to individuals who are accompanying an AUTM member from the same organization. The second registrant may register for either course. For example: The AUTM member may register for the AUTM Essentials of Academic Technology Transfer Course, and the second registrant may register for the AUTM TOOLS Course. Membership in AUTM is on an individual basis and member fees only apply to the individual who is considered a current member in good standing. Processing Registrations AUTM will process course registrations only when they are accompanied by a check or include credit card information. Please note: Registration forms, with fees paid, must be postmarked (if mailed) or received by fax by August 18, 2017, to qualify for the discounted early rate. Registrations received after August 18 must be paid at the higher rate. To be considered preregistered, your registration, changes or substitutions must be received by August 18, Exclusion from Registration Lists When you register you have the option to opt out of registration lists shared with fellow attendees and meeting sponsors. Pre- and postregistration lists include your name, company, mailing address and phone number. The pre-registration list is posted to the meeting website for all registered attendees to access. The pre- and postregistration lists are shared with meeting sponsors. When you select do not post my name on the registration list your name and contact information will be excluded from the pre-registration list posted on the website and removed from lists shared with sponsors.
