12 Local Challenges in Health and Care Keeping pace with demand is hugely challenging given: 1. Colchester remains the second fastest growing borough in the UK 2. Essex has the 2 nd highest elderly population in Europe 3. Tendring has the highest concentration of residential care businesses in the UK 4. There were nearly 4,000 Health and Care vacancies posted in 2016 (Colchester and Tendring) 5. Challenges recruiting to Colchester Hospital NHS Trust and other providers will worsen as a result of Brexit

14 College Challenges in Health and Care Keeping pace with demand is hugely challenging given: 1. Limited specialist accommodation and equipment to support curriculum development 2. Anticipated difficulty in securing volume of quality work experience that will be required in future Technical Qualications. 3. Difficulty recruiting good staff with appropriate skills and experience The project aims to enthuse and inspire local people, local employers and staff to create career opportunities, to improve care standards, and to support the Essex economy

Supporting development of professional and technical qualifications and apprenticeships including focusing on higher level skills (L4+) 3. Health, care and wellbeing routes 4. Hosting community health and care forums, events, professional collaboration and skills sector awards. 5. Opportunity for employers to influence and then utilise training facilities

18 Centre for Health, Care and Development BREEAM Very Good building, Fully DDA Compliant 1,000 SqM - Health and Care Teaching space to include facilities to replicate clinical ward or care settings 5m investment - Operational from January 2020 Fitness facility improvement to enable delivery of health and care exercise, rehabilitation, and wellbeing programmes.

21 Centre for Health, Care and Development Anticipated Business Outcomes: new apprenticeship starts in Health and Care by year additional students achieving Level 3 qualifications by year learners a year trained to job ready status to fill Health and Care vacancies in Colchester and Tendring additional employers engaged with the Centre for first 3 years direct and indirect new jobs created 6. Minimum of 10 new courses and qualifications developed each year
